The Municipality of Bluewater is pleased to welcome you and your child to our Day Camp program. Our objective is to provide a fun and engaging atmosphere as we promote physical activity through planned themes and events, throughout the summer. We make it our priority to provide a safe and warm environment for all children, including those with exceptionalities. We want your child to enjoy their summer experience. Our fully trained staff care about your child and will go out of their way to make sure they have a summer packed with great memories. For an exciting summer Come play with us! 2 Introduction The aim of the Municipality of Bluewater s Summer Playground Program is to provide a safe and quality recreation program for children ranging in ages from 4 to 12 years old. Summer Playground s Objectives to provide a warm caring environment which will develop your child s potential creative, intellectual, emotional, social and physical skills to provide a safe environment that is fun and stimulating for the children to ensure that your child is cared for and is supervised at all times to hire leaders that are experienced and well trained to provide the best care and enrichment for your child to provide a communication system that ensures parent to leader/coordinator contact throughout the program Caring and sharing learning new skills an enjoyable summer experience full of memories you ll treasure Registration Pre-registration: Will be accepted via o_beuermann@hotmail.com Parents can come on any camp day with their child/children and register that day. Hours of Operation Program will operate for 6 weeks Monday to Friday 9:00am- 4:00pm. Drop off between-8:00am-9:00am Pick-up between- 4:00pm-5:00pm Discover camp it s an amazing adventure every day, all summer or just a day at a time Extended Hours Does our schedule conflict with your busy schedule? Let us try and help! Our staff will be available for an extended supervised stay from 7:30am-9am and from 4:00pm-5:30pm. Cost will be $3.00 per family for each extended visit. Extended services will cost $3.00 in the morning and $3.00 in the afternoon. If you are interested in this service, please contact our playground staff. While being supervised, your child will enjoy quiet reading, play time and/or colouring. Summer Play Schedule Week 1: July th Week 2: July th Week 3: July 28- Aug 1 st Week 4: Aug 5- August 8 th Week 5: August 11- August 15 th Week 6: August 18- August 22 nd Attendance If you know ahead of time that your child will be missing Playground, please inform one of the leaders as attendance is taken regularly. 2

3 Fees Full Days $22.00/day/child or $90.00/week $33.00/day for 2 in a family or $132.00/week $44.00/day for 3 in a family or $176.00/week $55.00/day for 4 in a family or $220.oo/week *short week (Aug.5 th -8 th ) $80.00 Half Days $11.00/child $16.50/2 children $22.00/3 children $27.50/4 children *Childcare receipts will be issued Program introduces youngsters 4-12 years to a well-rounded set of activities, combining sports, crafts, music, games, day trips, water activities and special events Subsidized Child Care Program Families living in Huron County may qualify to have the full or partial amount of their child care costs paid by the County of Huron. This can be arranged when child care is provided at a licensed centre or an approved home provider. In order to qualify for subsidy parents need to be participating in the following approved activities: Employment (Full or Part time) Training or educational program Any other employment assistance activity under the Ontario Works program Qualifying If your family income is less than $20,000, your child care cost may be fully subsidized. If your family income is over $20,000, you will be required to pay a portion of the child care costs. For more information on parental fees, try the online estimator at Applying To apply, you are required to make an appointment to complete an application at the Jacob Memorial Building located just south of Clinton. What to bring When it is time for the application to be complete, you will be required to provide: Verification of birth for all individuals living in the home Most recent Income Tax (Federal Notice of Assessment or Canadian Child Tax Benefit Notice) (Revenue Canada ) Verification of current employment or schooling For more information, please contact County of Huron, Child services at or Getting to Know Us Caring, Qualified Leaders Our dedicated leaders are carefully chosen and have the appropriate educational background to ensure quality care. They have personal qualities of friendliness, warmth, and the ability to relate openly to children and adults. Continuous evaluation of leaders and programming ensures the ongoing high quality care for your children. 3

A variety of opportunities will be provided to ensure effective communication between you and our leaders. The Daily Routine 8:00am-9:00am- Drop Off 9:00-12:00pm- Planned, fun activities (around 10:30 there will be a supervised snack time) 12:00-1:00pm- Supervised lunch hour 1:00-4:00pm- More fun, planned activities (around 3pm there will be a supervised snack time) 4:00-5:00pm- Pick-up Please label lunch bags- lunches will be refrigerated ***We are a peanut free camp*** Wet weather won t dampen the fun we have sheltered areas for those rainy days Things to Bring We want to make sure that your child can participate in all activities, crafts, and games going on each day! We want your child to enjoy their summer experience. Our fully trained staff care about your child and will go out of their way to make sure they have a summer packed with great memories. Newsletter Each program site distributes a weekly newsletter containing upcoming program activities. This may also include things to bring for the following week. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome. EVERYDAY, please bring: Bathing suit & towel- On days when it is extremely hot out, we might play some unexpected water games to cool down! Please bring your bathing suit and towel each day in case we decide to have some water fun Bagged lunch and snack- If your child is staying the entire day, please pack a morning and afternoon snack Drinks! Drinks! Drinks!- As you may be aware, children tend to get dehydrated easily while playing outside! Please make sure that your child has enough drinks to last them the full day. We have a fridge to ensure your child s drinks and lunch will stay cool! 4

5 Policies Appropriate clothing- Please ensure your child is dressed for crafts (these could get messy), games, and outdoor play. Wearing the right clothing such as proper shoes and hats to block the sun will make sure your child s day will run a lot smoother! For the youngsters, we also suggest a change of clothing (just in case)! Sunblock- A lot of our games and activities will be run outside so PLEASE bring sunscreen so your child does not get burnt! Please label your child s sunscreen. Health and Illness To ensure a good standard of health within the program parents must keep a child at home if he or she has an infectious or serious illness which could infect other children in the program. Children will be sent home if they become ill while at the day camp program. As a guideline, your child should be kept at home or removed from the program if he/she: has a high fever (higher than 38 degrees) has more than two loose bowel movements (watery diarrhea) in a day vomiting is unable to function normally in the day camp program due to illness e.g., severe cold, cough, flu is unable to go outdoors with the other children is infected with a communicable illness Medication Administration Our leaders with Child Care First Aid certification will administer medication when requested. Leaders may only administer medication when a parent has signed a Medication Consent and Dispensing Record. One leader will be responsible for the administration of medication. Medications must be in the ORIGINAL container and labeled with the child s name. The parents must specify the dosage to be given on the medication authorization form. The leader will record each dosage administered to the child on the Medication Consent and Dispensing Record. Play fosters belonging and encourages cooperation. Safety and Supervision Our camp rules and regulations are designed for your child s safety. Children will be supervised at all times while at the program. Camp counselors will explain the rules to the children on the first day of camp. These rules will be reiterated throughout the program. No child will be allowed to wander off unsupervised or to leave the group at any time without permission. To ensure participant health and safety, please make camp staff aware of any allergies or medical conditions when registering. We reserve the right to dismiss a camper who refuses to abide by these policies or who does not adjust to our program. 5

6 Bullying All children who participate in the Municipality of Bluewater Playground Program are expected to treat others in a respectful manner. The organization is committed to zero tolerance for all forms of bullying, racism, sexual harassment, substance abuse, disrespectful behaviour and online cyber bullying by child participants towards others. Leader training focuses on the HIGH FIVE Principles to model and support the creation of a positive and respectful climate as a preventative measure against unwanted behaviours Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity. Lost and Found We recommend that your child does not bring expensive or valuable items to camp. Please be sure that your child understands that he/she is responsible for money that is brought to camp. The Municipality of Bluewater is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen personal belongings. Fire Drills and Emergency Evacuations Fire drills are held once per month to prepare children in the event of fire or for any other emergency evacuation. The children are guided out of the nearest, safest exit and the leaders will check washrooms and corners to ensure all children are evacuated. Attendance sheets, child emergency information and first aid kits are brought along. *This is only a summary of the Municipality of Bluewater Playground Program Policies.
