1 ب س م ا الله الر ح م ن الر ح يم ال له م ص ل ع لى م ح م د و ا ل م ح م د ال له م ا ن ى ا فت ت ح ال ثن ا ء ب ح م د ك و ا ن ت م س د د ل لص و ا ب ب م ن ك و ا ي قن ت ا ن ك ا ن ت ا ر ح م الر اح م ين ف ى م و ض ع ا لع ف و و الر ح م ة و ا ش د ا لم ع اق ب ين ف ى م و ض ع الن كا ل و الن ق م ة و ا ع ظم ا لم ت ج ب ر ي ن ف ى م و ض ع ا لك بر ي ا ء و ا لع ظم ة ال له م ا ذ ن ت ل ى ف ى د ع اي ك و م س ا لت ك فاس م ع ي ا س م ي ع م د ح ت ى و ا ج ب ي ا ر ح ي م د ع و ت ى و ا ق ل ي ا غ فو ر ع ثر ت ى Dua al-iftitah Du a no. 4 In the name of Alláh the Beneficent, the Merciful. O Alláh, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. O Alláh, I begin glorifying You with Your Praise. You direct towards what is right through Your Grace. I am convinced that You are the most Merciful in matters of forgiveness and mercy, but most severe in matters of warning and retribution, and the most mighty in matters of power and magnificence. O Alláh You have allowed me to supplicate to You and ask from You. ف كم ي ا ا له ى م ن ك ر ب ة ق د فر ج ت ه ا و ه م و م ق د كش فت ه ا و ع ثر ة ق د ا ق لت ه ا و ر ح م ة ق د ن ش ر ت ه ا Then hear my praise, O One who hears all, and answer my call, O Merciful, and decrease my mistakes, O most Forgiving. How often, O my God, You have relieved me of troubles how many griefs You have dispelled, how many mistakes You have prevented, how many blessings You have spread, و ح ل ق ة ب لا ء ق د ف ك كت ه ا ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى ل م ي ت خ ذ ص اح ب ة و لا و لدا و ل م ي ك ن له ش ر ي ك ف ى ا لم ل ك and how many series of afflictions You have separated. All Praise is for Alláh who has not taken a wife nor a son, Dua al-iftitah 1 of 11

2 who has no partner in His Kingdom, و ل م ي ك ن له و ل ى م ن الذ ل و كب ر ه ت كب يرا who has no friend to protect Him from humiliation, so magnify Him with a great Magnificence. All Praise is for Alláh for all His praiseworthy acts, for all His favors and blessings. All Praise is for Alláh who has no opposition in His Kingdom, nor any challenge to His command. All Praise is for Alláh who has no partner in creation, nor anyone like Him in His Greatness. All Praise is for Alláh, His commands operate over His creation, and his Praise is evident through His Generosity, whose bestowal stretches out liberally. His treasures never decrease, ا لح م د ل ل ه ب ج م ي ع م ح ام د ه ع لى ج م ي ع ن ع م ه Dua al-iftitah 2 of 11 ك له ا ك له ا ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى لا م ض ا د له ف ى م لك ه و لا م ن از ع له ف ى ا م ر ه ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى لا ش ر ي ك له ف ى خ لق ه و لا ش ب ي ه له ف ى ع ظم ت ه ا لح م د ل ل ه ا ل فاش ى ف ى ا لخ ل ق ا م ر ه و ح م د ه ال ظاه ر ب ا ل كر م م ج د ه ا لب اس ط ب ا لج و د ي د ه ا لذ ى لا ت ن ق ص خ ز اي ن ه و لا ت ز يد ه ك ثر ة ا لع طا ء ا لا ج ودا و (rather) the frequency of His Giving increases His Generosity and Kindness. Surely He is the Mighty, the Bestower. O Alláh I ask You a little from much, although I am in great need of it, while You are eternally needless of it, ا ن ه ه و ا لع ز ي ز ا لو ه ا ب ال له م ا ن ى ا س ا ل ك قل يلا م ن م ع ح اج ة ب ى ا لي ه ع ظ يم ة و غ ن ا ك ع ن ه قد يم كث ير و ه و ع ن د ى كث ير كر ما و ه و ع لي ك س ه ل ي س ير though it is a lot for me, while it is easy and simple for You. ال له م ا ن ع فو ك ع ن ذن ب ى و ت ج او ز ك ع ن خ ط ي ي ت ى O Alláh, indeed Your forgiveness of my sins and Your overlooking my faults,

3 و ص فح ك ع ن و ح لم ك ع ن ع ن د م ا ظ لم ى كث ير ج ر م ى و س ت ر ك ع لى قب ي ح ع م ل ى كا ن م ن خ طا ى [خ طي ى] و ع م د ى ا طم ع ن ى ف ى ا ن ا س ا ل ك م ا لا ا س ت و ج ب ه م ن ك ا لذ ى ر ز قت ن ى م ن ر ح م ت ك و ا ر ي ت ن ى م ن ق د ر ت ك Your pardoning my oppression, Your hiding my ugly deeds, and Your forbearing my many wrongs, done intentionally or unintentionally, tempted me to ask from You what I did not deserve from You, و ع ر فت ن ى م ن ا ج اب ت ك which You (still) gave me out of Your Mercy, provided me by Your Power, and made known to me from Your answers. فص ر ت ا د ع و ك ا م نا و ا س ا ل ك م س ت ا ن سا لا خ اي فا و لا و ج لا م د لا ع لي ك ف يم ا ق صد ت ف ي ه ا لي ك فا ن ا ب ط ا ع ن ى ع ت ب ت ب ج ه ل ى ع لي ك So I became habituated to call You trustingly and ask You familiarly, neither fearing nor scared, but with confidence in You for what I intended. Then if there was a delay (in Your answer), I would blame You, due to my ignorance, و لع ل ا لذ ى ا ب ط ا ع ن ى ه و خ ي ر لى ل ع لم ك ب ع اق ب ة ا ل ا م و ر and perhaps the delay was best for me, for You know the outcome of all affairs. كر يما ف لم ا ر م و لى ا ص ب ر ع لى ع ب د لي ي م م ن ك ع ل ى ي ا ر ب ا ن ك ت د ع ون ى ف ا و لى ع ن ك و ت ت ح ب ب ا ل ى ف ا ت ب غ ض ا لي ك و ت ت و د د ا ل ى فلا ا قب ل م ن ك I have not seen a more generous master patient with a wretched slave, than You are with me. My Lord, You call me and I turn away from You, You show affection to me and I show hatred towards You, ك ا ن ل ى الت طو ل ع لي ك You display Your love for me and I do not respond, as though I am above You. ف لم ي م ن ع ك ذل ك م ن الر ح م ة ل ى و ا لا ح س ا ن ا ل ى و الت فض ل ع ل ى ب ج ود ك و كر م ك But this does not prevent You from having mercy on me, being good to me, Dua al-iftitah 3 of 11

4 and favoring me, through Your Generosity and Nobility. So please (continue to) have mercy on your ignorant slave, and be kind to him through the excellence of Your Grace. Surely You are the Bountiful, the Generous. فار ح م ع ب د ك ا لج اه ل و ج د ع لي ه ب فض ل ا ح س ان ك ا ن ك ج و ا د Dua al-iftitah 4 of 11 كر يم ا لح م د ل ل ه م ال ك ا لم ل ك م ج ر ى ا ل ف ل ك All Praise is for Alláh, the Owner of the Kingdom, who makes the ships sail, controls the wind, causes the dawn to break, م س خ ر الر ي ا ح فال ق ا لا ص ب ا ح is the authority on the Day of Judgment, (and) is the Lord of the worlds. All Praise is for Alláh for His patience despite His knowledge. All Praise is for Alláh for His forgiveness despite His power. د ي ان الد ي ن ر ب ا لع ا لم ين ا لح م د ل ل ه ع لى ح لم ه ب ع د ع لم ه و ا لح م د ل ل ه ع لى ع فو ه ب ع د ق د ر ت ه و ا لح م د ل ل ه ع لى غض ب ه طو ل ا ن ات ه ف ى All Praise is for Alláh for the lengthy respite He gives despite His anger, though He has the power to do as He wills. All Praise is for Alláh the creator of all creation, the provider of plentiful sustenance, the cleaver of the dawn, possessor of Glory and Honor, and Excellence and Blessings, و ه و قاد ر ع لى م ا ي ر ي د ا لح م د ل ل ه خ ال ق ا لخ ل ق ب اس ط الر ز ق فال ق ا لا صب ا ح ذ ى ا لج لا ل و ا لا كر ا م و ا ل فض ل و ا لا ن ع ا م ا لذ ى ب ع د فلا ي ر ى و قر ب فش ه د الن ج و ى who is far and thus cannot be seen, but is close and thus witnesses secret conversations. Blessed and Exalted be His name. All Praise is for Alláh who has no equal who argues with Him, nor anyone similar to Him, nor any Helper to support Him. ت ب ار ك ت ع ا لى و ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى لي س له م ن از ع ي ع اد ل ه و لا ش ب ي ه ي ش اك ل ه ظه ير ي ع اض د ه و لا

5 He overpowers the mighty by His strength, and the great humble themselves before His greatness. He accomplishes what He wishes through His power. All Praise is for Alláh who answers me when I call Him, covers all my faults yet I disobey Him, increases His bounties on me but I do not acknowledge them. How many pleasant gifts He has given me, how many great fears He has removed, And how many delightful joys He has shown me. Thus I glorify Him, thanking Him and I remember Him with praise. All praise is for Alláh, whose curtains cannot be opened, whose doors cannot be locked, who does not reject the one who asks Him, and who does not disappoint the one who places hope in Him. All Praise is for Alláh, who provides safety for the frightened, rescues the virtuous, raises the oppressed, humiliates the proud, destroys kings, and replaces them with others. All Praise is for Alláh, who crushes the tyrants, قه ر ب ع ز ت ه ا ل ا ع ز ا ء و ت و اض ع ل ع ظم ت ه ا لع ظم ا ء فب ل غ ب ق د ر ت ه م ا ي ش ا ء ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى ي ج يب ن ى ح ين ا ن اد ي ه و ي س ت ر ع ل ى ك ل ع و ر ة و ا ن ا ا ع ص ي ه و ي ع ظ م الن ع م ة ع ل ى فلا ا ج از ي ه ف كم م ن م و ه ب ة ه ن ي ي ة ق د ا ع طان ى و ع ظ يم ة م خ و ف ة ق د ك فان ى و ب ه ج ة م ون ق ة ق د ا ر ان ى ف ا ثن ى ع لي ه ح ام دا و ا ذك ر ه م س ب حا ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى لا ي ه ت ك ح ج اب ه و لا ي غ لق ب اب ه و لا ي ر د س اي ل ه و لا ي خ ي ب ا م ل ه ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى ي و م ن ا لخ اي ف ين و ي ن ج ى الص ال ح ين و ي ر فع ا لم س ت ضع ف ين و ي ض ع ا لم س ت كب ر ي ن و ي ه ل ك م لوكا و ي س ت خ ل ف ا خ ر ي ن و ا لح م د ل ل ه قاص م ا لج ب ار ي ن Dua al-iftitah 5 of 11

6 annihilates the oppressors, watches over the runaways, punishes the oppressors, assists those who cry for help, م ب ير ال ظال م ين م د ر ك ا له ار ب ين ن كال ال ظال م ين ص ر ي خ ا لم س ت ص ر خ ين م و ض ع ح اج ا ت ال طال ب ين م ع ت م د ا لم و م ن ين grants the requests of the beseechers, and is the confidence of the believers. ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى م ن خ ش ي ت ه ت ر ع د الس م ا ء و س كان ه ا All praise is for Alláh in whose awe the skies and its inhabitants shake, the earth and its inhabitants tremble, the sea and all that swims in it billow. All praise is for Alláh who guided us to this و ت ر ج ف ا ل ا ر ض و ع م ار ه ا و ت م و ج ا لب ح ا ر و م ن ي س ب ح ف ى غم ر ات ه ا ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى ه د ان ا ل ه ذا و م ا كن ا ل ن ه ت د ى ل و لا ا ن ه د ان ا ال ل ه and we would not have been guided had Alláh not guided us to this. All Praise is for Alláh who creates but is not created, gives sustenance but is not given sustenance, feeds but is not fed causes the living to die, and gives life to the dead. He is Ever-Living and does not die, (and) in His control is all good, and He has power over all things. ا لح م د ل ل ه ا لذ ى ي خ ل ق و ل م ي خ ل ق و ي ر ز ق و لا ي ر ز ق و ي طع م و لا ي طع م و ي م ي ت ا ل ا ح ي ا ء و ي ح ي ى ا لم و ت ى و ه و ح ى لا ي م و ت ب ي د ه ا لخ ي ر و ه و ع لى كل ش ى ء قد ي ر ال له م ص ل ع لى م ح م د ع ب د ك و ر س ول ك O Alláh send Your Blessings on Muhammad, Your servant, Your Messenger, Your trustee, Your chosen One, Your beloved, the best of Your creation, the preserver of Your secrets, and the preacher of Your messages, the most superior, elegant, handsome, perfect, upright, و ا م ين ك و ص ف ي ك و ح ب يب ك و خ ي ر ت ك م ن خ لق ك و ح اف ظ س ر ك و م ب ل غ ر س الات ك ا فض ل و ا ح س ن و ا ج م ل و ا كم ل و ا ز كى Dua al-iftitah 6 of 11

7 و ا ن م ى و ا طي ب و ا طه ر و ا س ن ى و ا ك ث ر م ا ص ل ي ت و ب ار ك ت و ت ر ح م ت و ت ح ن ن ت و س ل م ت ع لى ا ح د م ن ع ب اد ك و ا ن ب ي اي ك و ر س ل ك و ص فو ت ك و ا ه ل ا ل كر ام ة ع لي ك م ن خ لق ك ال له م و ص ل ع لى ع ل ى ا م ير ا لم و م ن ين prosperous, pleasant, holy and sublime, more than what You have blessed, given, had mercy, sympathized and greeted, anyone from Your servants, Your Prophets, Your Messengers, Your chosen ones and the honorable ones from Your creation. O Allh, and send Your blessings on Alí, the commander of the faithful, و وص ى ر س و ل ر ب ا لع ا لم ين ع ب د ك و و ل ي ك و ا خ ى ر س ول ك و ح ج ت ك ع لى خ لق ك و ا ي ت ك ا ل كب ر ى و الن ب ا ا لع ظ ي م و ص ل ع لى الص د ي ق ة ال طاه ر ة فاط م ة الز ه ر ا ء س ي د ة ن س ا ء ا لع ا لم ين و ص ل ع لى س ب ط ى الر ح م ة و ا م ام ى ا له د ى and the successor of the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds. Your servant, Your friend, the brother of Your Messenger, Your proof over creation, Your great sign, and the mighty awaited news. And send blessings on the truthful, pure (lady) Fátima al Zahrá, the leader of the women of the worlds. And send Your blessings on the two grandsons of mercy (unto the world), ا لح س ن و ا لح س ي ن س ي د ى شب ا ب ا ه ل ا لج ن ة و ص ل ع لى ا ي م ة ا لم س ل م ين ع ل ى ب ن ا لح س ي ن the leaders of guidance, al-hasan and al-husayn, the leaders of the youths of Paradise. And send blessings on the leaders of Muslims, Alí son of Husayn, Dua al-iftitah 7 of 11

8 و م ح م د ب ن ع ل ى و ج ع ف ر ب ن م ح م د و م وس ى ب ن ج ع ف ر و ع ل ى ب ن م وس ى و م ح م د ب ن ع ل ى و ع ل ى ب ن م ح م د و ا لح س ن ب ن ع ل ى و ا لخ ل ف ا له اد ى ا لم ه د ى ح ج ج ك ع لى ع ب اد ك و ا م ن اي ك ف ى ب لاد ك Muhammad son of Alí, Jafar son of Muhammad, Músa son of Jafar, Alí son of Músa, Muhammad son of Alí Alí son of Muhammad, Hasan son of Alí, and the successor, the guide, and the rightly guided. (These are) Your proofs over Your servants, Your trustees on Your land. ص لا ة كث ير ة د اي م ة ال له م و ص ل ع لى و ل ى ا م ر ك ا ل قاي م ا لم و م ل Bless (them with) numerous and continuous blessings. O Alláh send blessings on the guardian of Your orders, the one who will rise, و ا لع د ل ا لم ن ت ظ ر و ح ف ه ب م لاي كت ك ا لم قر ب ين و ا ي د ه ب ر و ح ا لق د س ي ا ر ب ا لع ا لم ين ال له م اج ع ل ه الد اع ى ا لى ك ت اب ك و ا ل قاي م ب د ين ك اس ت خ ل فه ف ى ا ل ا ر ض كم ا اس ت خ ل ف ت ا لذ ي ن م ن قب ل ه م ك ن له د ين ه ا لذ ى ار ت ض ي ت ه له the one hoped for, the awaited justice. Surround him with Your favorite angels and assist him with the holy spirit, O Lord of the worlds. O Alláh, appoint him to invite towards Your book to establish Your religion. Make him the successor on the earth as You caused others to succeed before him. Establish for him his religion which You have approved for him. Dua al-iftitah 8 of 11

9 Give him security after fear (so) he worships You and does not associate any with You. O Alláh, give him power and through him strengthen (others), help him and help (others) through him. Help him with a mighty help, and give him an easy victory, and grant him an assisting authority from You. O Alláh, make manifest through him Your religion and the way of Your Prophet, until nothing from the truth remains hidden from any human being. O Alláh, we earnestly desire from You an honored state, through which You strengthen Islam and its people and degrade hypocrisy and its followers. ا ب د له م ن ب ع د خ و ف ه ا م نا ي ع ب د ك لا ي ش ر ك ب ك ش ي ي ا ال له م ا ع ز ه و ا ع ز ز ب ه و ان ص ر ه و ان ت ص ر ب ه و ان ص ر ه ن ص را ع ز يزا و ا ف ت ح له فت حا ي س يرا و اج ع ل له م ن لد ن ك س ل طانا ن ص يرا ال له م ا ظه ر ب ه د ين ك و س ن ة ن ب ي ك ح ت ى لا ي س ت خ ف ى ب ش ى ء م ن ا لح ق م خ ا ف ة ا ح د م ن ا لخ ل ق ال له م ا ن ا ن ر غب ا لي ك ف ى د و ل ة كر يم ة ت ع ز ب ه ا ا لا س لا م و ا ه له و ت ذ ل ب ه ا الن فا ق و ا ه له و ت ج ع لن ا ف يه ا م ن الد ع ا ة ا لى طاع ت ك And make us in it amongst the inviters towards Your obedience, and the leaders to Your path. Give us through it honor of the world and the Hereafter. و ا ل قاد ة ا لى س ب يل ك و ت ر ز قن ا ب ه ا كر ام ة الد ن ي ا و ا لا خ ر ة ال له م ما ع ر فت ن ا م ن ا لح ق فح م لن ا ه O Alláh, what You have made known to us of the truth, help us bear it, and what we fall short, make us reach it. و م ا قص ر ن ا ع ن ه فب لغ ن ا ه Dua al-iftitah 9 of 11

10 ال له م ا لم م ب ه ش ع ثن ا و اش ع ب ب ه ص د ع ن ا و ار ت ق ب ه فت قن ا و ك ث ر ب ه ق لت ن ا و ا ع ز ز ب ه ذ لت ن ا و ا غ ن ب ه ع اي لن ا و ا ق ض ب ه ع ن م غ ر م ن ا و اج ب ر ب ه ف قر ن ا و س د ب ه خ لت ن ا و ي س ر ب ه ع س ر ن ا و ب ي ض ب ه و ج وه ن ا و فك ب ه ا س ر ن ا طل ب ت ن ا و ا ن ج ح ب ه و ا ن ج ز ب ه م و اع يد ن ا و اس ت ج ب ب ه د ع و ت ن ا و ا ع ط ن ا ب ه س و لن ا و ب لغ ن ا ب ه م ن الد ن ي ا و ا لا خ ر ة ا م ا لن ا و ا ع ط ن ا ب ه فو ق ر غب ت ن ا O Alláh, through him put order in our affairs, gather and unite our flocks, join together our separations, increase our minority, lift us from degradation, relieve our miseries, pull us out of our debts, remove our poverty, fill the gaps in our confusion, ease our difficulties, brighten our faces, free our prisoners, grant our requests, fulfill our promises, answer our calls, grant us our requests, cause us to obtain what we hope for, from this world and the hereafter, ي ا خ ي ر ا لم س ي ول ين و ا و س ع ا لم ع ط ين اش ف ب ه ص د ور ن ا و ا ذه ب ب ه and give us more than our expectations. O the best of all who are asked and the most generous of bestowers, غي ظ ق لوب ن ا through him, cleanse our chests, remove the stains of anger and hatred from our hearts, و ا هد ن ا ب ه ل م ا اخ ت ل ف ف ي ه م ن ا لح ق ب ا ذن ك and guide us to the truth on disputed matters, by Your permission. ا ن ك ت ه د ى م ن ت ش ا ء ا لى ص ر ا ط م س ت ق ي م و ان ص ر ن ا ب ه ع ى ل ا له ا لح ق ا م ين و ع د و ن ا ع د و ك ال له م ا ن ا ن ش كو ا لي ك ف ق د ن ب ي ن ا ص لو ات ك ع لي ه و ا ل ه Surely You guide whom You wish to the right path. Through him help us to overcome Your enemy and our enemy. O God of truth, Amen. O Alláh, we complain to You of the absence of our Prophet, Dua al-iftitah 10 of 11

11 Your blessings be on him and his family, the concealment of our leader, the abundance of our enemies, the scarcity of our numbers, the severity of our trials, and the victory of the era against us. So bless Muhammad and his family and help us overcome that by granting us an immediate victory, dispersing miseries, giving us a help that strengthens, providing an authority of truth which You manifest, a mercy from You which is clear to us, and a well being from You which clothes us by Your mercy, O most Merciful. و غي ب ة و ل ي ن ا و ك ثر ة ع د و ن ا و ق ل ة ع د د ن ا و ش د ة ا لف ت ن ب ن ا و ت ظاه ر الز م ا ن ع لي ن ا فص ل ع لى م ح م د و ا ل ه م ح م د و ا ع ن ا ع لى ذل ك ب فت ح م ن ك ت ع ج ل ه و ب ض ر ت كش ف ه و ن ص ر ت ع ز ه و س ل طا ن ح ق ت ظه ر ه و ر ح م ة م ن ك ت ج لل ن اه ا و ع اف ي ة م ن ك ت لب س ن اه ا ب ر ح م ت ك ي ا ا ر ح م الر اح م ين Dua al-iftitah 11 of 11
