SPECIFICATIONS INTRODUCTION The TOSHIBA RBC-BG1-PE BMS INTERFACE allows single systems, or group of systems to a maximum of 16 indoor units to be directly coupled to a BMS System by means of a 0-10 volt dc analogue signals. System settings can then be altered using these signals from the BMS outstation. This device is suitable for heat pump systems only. The RBC-BG1-PE does not receive or display actual space temperatures. Table 1 details the Interface specifications, Table 2 lists the indoor units suitable for connection to this device; any matched outdoor unit can be used, including Super Multi systems. INSTALLATION OPERATION: The RBC-BG1-PE Interface connects directly to the control circuit of the indoor unit, using the Local Area Network connections, X & Y and is substituted for the standard Toshiba Remote Controller. Stop/start, temperature, mode and fan functions can be altered remotely using the variable voltage output of the BMS system. Connect the 10 Volt dc input directly from the BMS outstation into the terminals provided on the interface outlined in Figure 5 and in the schedule in Table 4. When installing a gateway, it is recommended that the Installation of all the units is completed, tested, started and that the operation be checked. The internal service switches can be used for this operation. We recommend that room controllers are not used as a permanent part of the installation. FIXING THE INTERFACE ASSEMBLY The Interface may be sited in any convenient indoor position though it is recommended that it is situated as close as is practicable to the BMS outstation in order to minimise wiring. The RBC-BG 1-PE Interface may be wall mounted or incorporated into a control panel or similar enclosure; details of dimensions and fixing centres together with cable entry points are outlined in Figure 6. WIRING THE INTERFACE TO THE INDOOR UNITS: Wiring the BMS is straightforward. Wiring Continue to 16 units Provide a 230 volt supply to the marked terminals on the Interface, L & N. Provide an earth to the earth terminal on the casing. Interconnect the terminals marked X Y on the interface with the same terminals at each indoor unit, using 2 core screened cable. Ensure continuity of the screen trhroughout and connect one end of the screen only to earth at the terminal provided on the BMS interface. Do not connect any other part of the screen to earth to avoid possible signal degradation. 4

5 2. INSTALLATION SETTING THE INDOOR UNIT ADDRESSES Before the systems can work on the BMS / Interface combination, it is essential to set the indoor unit addresses. Allocate an address number from 1 to a maximum of 16 to each of the indoor units. This series of numbers must be sequential and can be in any order. No two units should be set to the same number. We recommend that the layout is recorded. Setting the addresses Visit each indoor unit and access the PCB Locate and set the address switches as follows: Switch 01 (16 position rotary switch) position 1 on all units Switch 02 (7 bit DIP switch) As outlined in Table 3 and Figure 2. DIP switches 1-4 sets the indoor unit address in binary combination from 1 to 16 as shown in Table 3. 6 2. INSTALLATION Example: To set units 1, 2 & 3: Figure 2. Switch Positions DIP switches 5 & 6 are factory set at OFF. They are not used and must be set in the OFF position at all times. If these switches are altered the systems will cease to function. Switch 7 configures the address setting location. It can be set at either the Central Controller or at the indoor unit. When a BMS interface is used, it must always be set at the indoor unit position, as shown. 7 2. INSTALLATION The interconnecting cable should be kept as short as possible. A total of 5 conductors is required, one for each channel, plus negative. The 0 volt rail is interconnected internally. Input Voltages and Settings: The system operation can be changed by varying the 0-10 Volt dc output from the BMS outstation as outlined opposite: Always check that the received voltage value at the interface terminals is within +/- 0.1 volt of the values specified in Table 5 opposite for each channel. 8 2. INSTALLATION SETTING THE SYSTEM UP: After the system has been installed and the electrical installation tested, the refrigeration system will need to be commissioned. Please refer to the relevant installation instructions for the equipment. At this stage the Interface can be set at the internal mode located on the selector switches on the interface PCB and normal setting up checks carried out. The BMS outstation does not need to be operating at this stage as the system with the Interface will work under its own power. When setting up is complete the external mode can be selected and the system will be under control of the BMS It will be necessary to set all the switches to external mode for full control at the BMS outstation. This will lock that channel so that it cannot be set by the BMS system. 8

9 3. FAULT CODES ACCESSING THE FAULT CODES: The standard malfunction codes can be interpreted in three ways: As a general code via volt free contacts in the interface which will indicate any code which has remained in the system memory for more than 30 minutes. This is not fault-specific. As a directly read code from any Remote Controller connected to any indoor unit as a service tool. As a directly-read code from the screen of the interface. This must be access by pressing the Fault access button. ACCESSING THE FAULT CODES FROM THE INTERFACE The fault codes are the standard codes which are found on all Toshiba systems. Full details of these codes and their interpretation can be found in the relevant service data books. The codes can be read by pressing the code button, See Figure 4 Figure 4.
