3 Did you pick up your pack? First things first You should know if your child is in AM or PM Please hand in your completed yellow form as soon as possible Important we know allergies, medical needs and any changes (update throughout the year) Any questions about what is in the pack?
4 Visits and start dates Friday 15 th July- Come and play for one hour (time in your pack) Parents/carers to stay with children September Wednesday 7th Wednesday 14 th Home Visits o Letter coming soon with date and time o 20 minutes o Chance to meet the staff on home ground o Time to talk individually and find out about your child o Please try to accept the time we offer o Let us know tonight if you know you will be away during those dates Thursday 15 th September- Come and play for one hour (same time as July) Friday 16 th September- Youngest children start (time in your pack) Tuesday 20 th September- Second group start (time in your pack) Thursday 22 nd September- Third group start. All children in (time in your pack)
5 Yellow form Child s birth certificate Please bring Proof of address (e.g. bill, bank statement, etc) Recent close up photo of your child for his/her peg (approx. 10cm x 12cm) Passport size photo of anyone who will collect your child, including parents Claim form for Pupil Premium if it applies to you
6 When your child comes in Gate opened at start of session time- open for 10 minutes Always a member of staff watching the gate Please bring your child inside the room Encourage them to be independent Hang up their coat Put book bag in group colour box Find Daisy and put it on the felt board Say goodbye

8 Settling in Reassure your child that you will be coming back We can be flexible- please talk to us Home visit is a chance to plan whether your child needs you to stay at first Please take our advice- we have lots of experience! Never leave without saying goodbye Once you have said goodbye go quickly We will always call you if your child is distressed
9 What to wear No uniform for Nursery Daisy T-shirts and sweat shirts if you want to Clothes to move and get messy in (we do have aprons) Clothes they can manage themselves in the toilet Shoes they can take on and off and fasten themselves- no crocs or open toe sandals Check the weather- we always go outside Girls- leggings/ trousers for PE day- no tights please No jewellery- this is a whole school rule
10 Do they need to bring any thing? Book bag- really important for library book and letters (please check daily) Spare clothes in a named bag- only if you think they will need them Please do not bring water bottles, food or sweets- we always have drinks and fruit available Sun hat if it s sunny! No toys please (except for Show and Tell day) - they do get lost! Wellie boots for puddles and digging- you can leave a pair of named boots on our trolley
11 Child safety Please bring your child right inside and make sure one of us greets them Please be on time to collect your child Please wait in the outside area at pickup. We will send your child out when we see you. Please fill in a slip if someone else is picking up your child- we will not let them go without this. Please put sun cream on before they come in Please keep your child at home for at least 24 hours after sickness or diarrhoea.

Lots of free choice and planned active play Hands on open ended activities Joining in with others, sharing ideas Using their senses to explore and discover Time to follow their interest and finish what they start Having a go at challenges, trying new things, taking risks Pretending and imagining Solving problems Talking and asking questions Small group tasks with an adult
15 Everything we do is based on play and hands on practical activities. They won t be sitting down to formal lessons. Our aim is to build the foundational skills and attitudes that their future learning throughout school and life will be built on. Happy and secure place where children want to be so we want children to have fun, the environment to be bright and welcoming and the activities exciting. Concentrate for increasing amounts of time and to persevere without giving up. You know that children won t do this if they are not having fun or being stimulated Learn the social skills of being part of a group and class.
16 Before they can write they need to have something to say so we encourage very child to be a talker and listener Excited by books and stories so they will want to read. Physically we want them to develop strength and coordination in all their movements. This is important not only in its own right but in preparation for writing. We plan practical and purposeful situations for counting and developing other math concepts. We encourage them most of the time to choose their own activities but they will also be invited to take part in some adult led
17 How do we assess their progress? All valued as unique individuals Observations of their play Quotes that show their learning and thinking Photos and video clips that show their learning and how they go about things Photos of things that they make or construct Some of these kept in their Learning Journey to show progress Examples of learning at home WOW stickers from home All of the above from all areas of their development
18 School and home - sharing learning Consultation evenings in October and February Written report at the end of the year Learning Journeys sent home from time to time Please comment and add to the Learning Journey Send in examples of learning at home WOW stickers for excellent progress or achievement outside of school Sometimes we set home learning challenges Always ask for an appointment if you have concerns or questions Workshop to come to explain in more detail
19 How can I support my child? Send in home learning and WOW stickers Comment and add your child s quotes to the Learning Journey Read and talk about the library book they bring home Share the Learning Packs together Come to Parent Workshops and Stay and Play sessions Check their book bag every day for letters or work they have brought home and talk about school Value and celebrate what they do, learn and achieve. Welcome the class pet when he comes for the weekend! Come in and help if you can (DBS check needed)
20 How can I help at school? Get a DBS check Sign up to help regularly if you can- library, cooking, gardening, reading stories, helping with activities, washing up Occasional help is also useful for class trips, special days, etc. Look out for requests for resources that we need Be our PSA class rep Volunteer to help at PSA events
21 Preparing for September Encourage your child to be independent going to the toilet, washing hands, putting on coat and shoes and eating Teach your child to wipe their nose Talk about Daisy class, what they might do there and staying without you- but you will come back! Encourage your child to walk as much as possible (no buggy!) to build muscle strength, stamina and spatial awareness Active play Teach them to recognise their name and say hello, thank you and goodbye Encourage them to play an activity without needing an adult for a short time Teach them to take care of books and toys and to tidy up Talk, talk and talk some more!
22 A word about letters and numbers Writing their name- use lower case not all capitals Please teach letter sounds rather than letter names- they don t need to learn the alphabet yet. Point out the difference between the words and the pictures in a book Show them which way up to hold the book and direction of reading Practising counting and understanding number concepts is more important than recognising numbers at this stage. It is good to notice letters, words and numbers everywhere.
