2 Rules & Regulations 1. MHSAA rules of eligibility and USBC rules will guide this tournament. 2. This event is open to all current high schools who have a Varsity Team in High School Competition. Each student must not be on the Varsity Singles Roster for their school for the 2013 Varsity Regional or State Finals. Each student must not have bowled 5 or more games for the varsity team during a regular varsity season of 20 regular games (Varsity Final League sheet should be submitted on day of Tournament). Conferences which bowl fewer or more than 10 competitions will be pro-rated at 25%. 3. Only registered bowlers may bowl. Active team is 5 bowlers plus 3 alternates (8 total) as listed on the entry form. Substitutions (maximum 3) will be allowed each Baker Game. 4. Bowlers may only compete for their school as listed and verified on the entry form. 5. All teams shall bowl scratch (no handicap). 6. TEAM ENTRY: A fee of $ per team and $15.00 per single must accompany the entry. No refunds will be issued. Checks returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a $25.00 fee. 7. To allow the maximum number of schools and athletes to participate, each school may enter 1 boy and 1 girl team and no more than 7 boys singles and/or 7 girls singles. Additional Singles and Teams will be placed on a waiting list in the order of the date all fees have been received. Coaches that have paid for the additional entries will be notified by the tournament director if those entries will be allowed to bowl at least two weeks before the tournament. If the paid entries are not allowed to bowl, a full refund of the fees for the extra entries will be made. All coaches (or designated coaches) will be required to sign score sheets. Errors in scoring must be reported to the Tournament Director immediately. Any changes in scoring can only be made by the tournament management. 9. Teams will check in with the tournament office when ALL members of the team are in the bowling center. Bowlers should report not less than 1 hour before squad time. 10. Bowlers must keep their bowling bags in the paddock area. Coaches are expected to maintain (keep clean) their location in the paddock area. 11. All equipment used in the tournament must meet USBC specifications. Illegal equipment will constitute a forfeit and scores for that event shall be disallowed. 12. Bowling Attire: All bowlers and coaches must be dressed alike in shirts and the same color pants. School shirts must reflect the name of the school and/or the school logo or mascot. No hats, tank tops, shorts, tattered jeans or obscene clothing is allowed. 13. Only registered bowling team members will be allowed in the immediate bowling area. 14. Tardy bowlers: Bowling shall begin in accordance with a previously arranged schedule, unless the tournament committee authorizes a delay. Any player or team arriving late shall begin play with the score counting beginning with the frame and game then being bowled. 15. Any disputes during the tournament or exceptions to the above rules and regulations will be resolved at the discretion of the tournament officials. Their decisions will be final. Please check in at least one hour before squad time. Tardy bowlers will receive zero pins for frames missed. 3 FORMAT FOR THE MICHIGAN JUNIOR VARSITY SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP FEBRUARY 16, 2013 Doors Open 7:00 a.m. E.S.T. Girls Competition Begins at 8:00 a.m. Boys Competition Begins at 10:30 a.m. 1. There will be a limit of 174 girls qualifying at 8:00 AM in the Singles Event. There will be a limit of 232 boys qualifying at 10:30 AM in the Singles Event. Lane assignments will be provided at the tournament check-in. 2. Athletes will bowl three (3) games across (6) lanes, moving one pair after each game. One lane courtesy (two-lane courtesy should not be expected). 3. The field for boys and girls will be divided into two divisions (based on school population) and cut to the top 32 or appropriate number (in each division) after the three (3) game qualifier. The top 32 will be ranked 1 to 32 according to their three (3) game total. 4. Ties for a final qualifying spot will be bowled off using a 9th and 10th frame roll-off. All other ties will be broken in the following manner: the individual with the highest last game will be placed as the lower number seed. 5. Athletes/Coaches will be served a continental breakfast at registration and lunch after each qualifier. The lunch break will allow tournament officials time to tally up all scores and determine which individuals will continue on to the Match Play competition. Match Play competition will follow the NCAA matching format. Top seed will bowl bottom seed, etc. 6. At 1:30 PM, practice will begin for those individuals who have qualified for Match Play competition. The Match Play game is bowled in the following format: the high seed qualifier will start on the left lane. 7. Next, the athletes will bowl head-to-head, one-game matches until the final four have been reached. Losers in the Round of Final Four will bowl a consolation match to decide 3rd and 4th place. Winners in the Round of Final Four will bowl to decide the Michigan Junior Varsity Singles Championship. Special awards will also be given for 2nd thru 4th place. Tournament Officials reserve the right to settle all disputes the day of the tournament. Their decisions will be final.
