1 How to complete the Tier 4 Student visa application outside the UK Have you visited the International Support Team s website for advice on how to apply outside the UK? If not, visit theuk/ now for advice on the application process, the type of evidence you will need to submit and other important information you need to know before and after you apply. 2 Click on the links above to get help on a specific section of the form. Tier 4 (General) student visa application: Visit and select Register an account to start your visa application. You will need to input your personal details including an address to set up an account. Use an address that you check regularly. Once you have set up an account log-in using your address and password. When you are logged in select Apply for Myself and read the Important Information before selecting Continue. You should then answer all of the questions in the next few sections as accurately as you can. Please use the guidance below if you are unsure how to answer any of the questions. Applicant details Question Given Name(s)/Forename(s) Family Name/Surname Primary Contact Number Secondary Contact Number Passport Number Date of Birth Date of Intended Travel Location Visa Issuing Office Answer Type all names here which are in your passport, other than your surname/family name (so include all middle names). Type your family name/surname here, as it is written in your passport. Type your address. You should use an address that you check regularly. Type your telephone number. This can be your mobile number of your home landline number. If you have more than one telephone number you may wish to provide a secondary telephone number but this is not required. Enter your passport or travel document number. This can usually be found in the top right hand corner of your photograph page. Select the date of your birth by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Select the date that you plan to arrive in the UK by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Your visa can only be issued from one month before the start of your course. You must travel to the UK within 30 days of the issue date of your visa and no later than the start date of your course. Select your current location using the drop-down list. This should be the country where you are planning to make your visa application. Select the Embassy or Consulate where you will submit your application using the drop-down list. International Support Team - version 1 July

3 Country of Nationality Select Visa Type Select the nationality of the passport you are using from the drop down list. You will be asked to give the Reason for visit using the drop-down list. You should select Study. You will then be asked to select a Visa Type from the drop-down list. You should select PBS Tier 4 Student. You will then be asked to select Visa Sub Type from the drop-down list. You should select Tier 4 (General) Student. When you have completed this section, click Create Application at the bottom of the page. Once you have created your application you will be taken to the View My Applications page to show a summary of all applications that you have created on your account. Answer You will now be asked to give further details about your current passport/travel document as follows: Type your family name/surname here, as it is written in your passport. Type all names here which are in your passport, other than your surname/family name (so include all middle names). Select the date of your birth by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Type your place of birth exactly how it is written in your passport. This may be a province instead of a village, town or city. Select Male or Female from the drop down list. Select the nationality of the passport you are using from the drop down list. If you have only one nationality, select No to this question. If you hold more than one nationality, select Yes to this question. You will then be asked Please Enter Details. Select Add and then select the other nationality you hold from the drop down list. If you have more than one other nationality, click Add again and select a further nationality. Enter your passport or travel document number. This can usually be found in the top right hand corner of your photograph page. Type the place where your passport was issued. You should type this exactly as it is stated in your passport or travel document. This could be a town, city or just a country. You will be asked for the Issuing authority. Type the issuing authority exactly how it appears in your passport. This can usually be found on the photograph page of your passport. If the full name does not fit in the box provided just write as much as you can. You should select the Date of Issue by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. You should select the Date of Expiry by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Select your country of residence using the drop-down list. This should be the country where you live permanently. You should select Yes if you are a national of the country in which you are applying. International Support Team - version 1 July

5 If you are applying in a different country than the one you are a national of, you should select No. You will then be asked to Please Enter Details. You should type an explanation of what permission you have to stay in this country using the text box provided. Is this your first passport You should select Yes if this is your first passport. If you have previously held another passport you should select No. You will then be asked to Please Enter Details. Select Add and provide the Nationality, Document Number, Issuing Authority, Date of Issue, Date of Expiry. You will also be asked Is this travel document lost, stolen or in your possession. Once you have completed this information select Add again. Travel Information Are you travelling with anyone? You will now be asked to give further details about your travel plans as follows: Select No if you will be travelling to the UK alone. If you will be travelling to the UK with your spouse or your child you should select Yes. You will then be asked to provide the details of the person(s) who will be travelling with you. Select Add and then give their Nationality, Family Name, Given Name, Date of Birth, and state if they have a valid visa for the UK? Once you have completed their details select Add again. Date of planned arrival in the UK How long do you intend to stay in the UK? What is the main address and contact details of where you will be staying whilst in the UK? Select the date that you plan to arrive in the UK by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Your visa can only be issued from one month before the start of your course. You must travel to the UK within 30 days of the issue date of your visa and no later than the start date of your course. The duration of your stay should not exceed the length of your course as listed on your CAS statement. Therefore, you should type the course end date in the box provided. Please note that if you are studying a course at degree level or above for 12 months or more you will normally be issued with an additional 4 months on your visa after your course end date. You should type the post code of the address where you will be staying in the UK and then select Find. This will bring up your full address. If you don t know where you will be staying in the UK yet then you can type in the University post code and address. In this case you should type in L69 7ZX then select Find. You should then select the Foundation Building using the drop-down list. Once you have selected The Foundation Building the fields below will be automatically completed. However, you will also need to input the Primary Contact no. You should type your own telephone number in here. Please note - when you arrive in the UK, you will need to collect your full visa or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from a local post office with 7 days. This post office will be decided based on the address you give in your application as your residential address where you will be living when you arrive in the UK. However, some students may be given an International Support Team - version 1 July

6 alternative code. Even if you have been given an alternative code to enter, you should still enter the post code of the address where you will be living or the University address as per the advice above. If you have been given an alternative code by the University, you will need to input this alternative code later on in the application process. 7 Personal details and Travel History Question Personal Details What is your permanent residential address and contact details? Answer You will now be asked to provide information about your contact details as follows: You should type the details of your permanent address in your home country. You should type in your postal code (if you have one). Select the Country of your permanent address using the drop-down list. Type your Primary Contact no (telephone number) and address. How long have you lived at this address? Are your preferred contact details different from the contact details provided above? Travel History Have you been issued any visa for the UK, UK Overseas Territories or Commonwealth Country in the last 10 years? Type the length of time in the box provided that you have lived at this address. For example, if you have lived there for 7 years and 6 months, type 7 years and 6 months. If you would prefer to be contacted by the Embassy at a different residential address or by a different telephone number or then you should select Yes and enter the preferred contact details. Otherwise, you should select No. You will now be asked a series of questions about your travel history as follows: If you have been issued with a visa previously in the UK, UK Overseas Territories or Commonwealth Country in the last 10 years you should select Yes. You should then select Add to give further details including the Type of Visa Issued, the Date of Issue, the Date of Expiry of the visa, and the Issuing Authority. This information can be found on the visa that you were issued with. Once you have completed this information select Add. If you have never been issued with a visa for the UK, UK Overseas Territories or Commonwealth Country in the last 10 years then you should select No. Have you ever travelled to the UK in the last 10 years? If you have travelled to the UK in the last 10 years select Yes. You will then be asked to provide details of the 5 most recent visits. Select Add to give further details including Date of Arrival, Departure Date and the Purpose of the Trip. Once you have completed this information select Add. If you haven t travelled to the UK in the last 10 years select No. Have you made an application to the Home Office to remain in the UK in the last 10 years? If you have made an application to the Home Office to remain in the UK in the last 10 years, you should select Yes. Select Add to give further details including the Date of Application, the Type of Application you made (for example, a Tier 4 application) and any Home Office Reference Number you have for each application (this would be found on any previous correspondence received from the Home Office). Once you have completed this information select Add. If you haven t made an application to the Home Office to remain in the UK in the last 10 years you should select No. International Support Team - version 1 July

8 Have you been refused entry to the UK in the last 10 years (For example. at a UK airport or seaport)? Providing this information should not affect the way in which your Tier 4 visa application is considered, but failure to provide details of a visa refusal could be viewed by the Home Office as deception which could lead to your application, and possibly future UK visa applications, being refused. If you have ever been refused entry to the UK in the last 10 years you should select Yes. This means if you have been refused entry to the UK on arrival, not if you have been refused a visa application made in your home country (see the next question). Select Add to give further details including the Date of Refusal, the Port or airport where you were refused, the Reason for refusal and any Reference number that you were given relating to the refusal (this would be found on any written document given to you by the Immigration Officer at the port formally refusing you entry). Once you have completed this information select Add. If you have never been refused entry to the UK in the last 10 years you should select No. Have you been refused a visa for any country including the UK in the last 10 years? Providing this information should not affect the way in which your Tier 4 visa application is considered, but failure to provide details of a visa refusal could be viewed by the Home Office as deception which could lead to your application, and possibly future UK visa applications, being refused. If you have ever been refused a visa for the UK or any other country in the last 10 years you should select Yes. Select Add to give further details including the Country of visa application, the Type of visa Refused, the Date of Refusal and the Reason for Refusal. If you are not sure of the exact date you can just provide the month and year. Once you have completed this information select Add. If you have never been refused a visa for any country including the UK in the last 10 years you should select No. Have you been deported, removed or otherwise required to leave any country including the UK in the last 10 years? Deported means expelled from any country, usually due to illegal status or having committed a crime. If you have ever been deported, removed or required to leave any country including the UK in the last 10 years you should select Yes. Select Add to give further details including the Country that you were deported from, the Date of deportation/removal, the Port or airport that you were deported/removed from and the Reason for deportation/removal. Once you have completed this information select Add. Have you ever voluntarily elected to depart the UK? If you have never been deported, removed or required to leave any country including the UK in the last 10 years you should select No. If you have ever departed the UK of your own free after being refused entry or served with immigration papers, you should select Yes. Select Add to provide further details including the Date of departure, the International Support Team - version 1 July

9 Airport or port of departure, the Immigration decision and the papers you were served and any Reference number you were issued by the Home Office. Once you have completed this information select Add. If you have never departed the UK of your own free will, after being served with immigration papers you should select No. Are you, or have you been subject to, an exclusion order from the UK? An exclusion order is a legal order preventing someone from going somewhere, or having contact with someone. If you have been subject to an exclusion order from the UK you should select Yes. You should then select Add to give further information including the Date of the exclusion order, the Reason for your exclusion and any Reference number you were issued with (this would be on correspondence received by the Immigration team). Once you have completed this information select Add. If you have never been issued with an exclusion order you should select No. Have you ever travelled outside your country of residence, excluding the UK in the last 10 years? If you have travelled outside our home country to any other country besides the UK or Commonwealth within the last 10 years, you should select Yes and provide full details for each visit. Select Add to give the Date of Travel, select the Country visited from the drop-down list and then give the Reason for the trip. The reason for the trip may be to study, tourism or business. Once you have completed this information select Add. For a list of commonwealth countries see If you have never travelled outside your home country to any other country besides the UK or a Commonwealth country the select No. Do you have a UK National Insurance Number? You may have a UK National Insurance number if you have ever worked whilst in the UK before. Do you have any criminal convictions in any country (including spent/unspent convictions and traffic offences)? If you have previously held a National Insurance Number you should select Yes. You will then be asked What is the National Insurance number? and What is the reason for getting it? If you don t remember your national insurance number you can type Unknown. The reason for getting this should be to work in the UK. If you have never been issued with a National Insurance Number select No. A spent conviction is a conviction which is no longer taken into account for legal purposes after a period of time has elapsed. A traffic offence may include, but is not limited to; driving without a valid licence or insurance; speeding; dangerous driving; driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You will not normally need to declare traffic fines that have been paid. If you select Yes, you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. Failure to disclose information about criminal International Support Team - version 1 July

10 convictions would result in your application being refused on general grounds for using deception in a UK immigration application. This carries serious implications including possible automatic refusal of future UK visa applications and a possible 10 year ban. If you do not have any criminal convictions you should select No. Have you been charged in any country with a criminal offence for which you have not yet been tried in the court (including traffic offences)? If you have been charged for a criminal offence but not been to court yet then you should select Yes, you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. Failure to disclose information about criminal convictions would result in your application being refused on general grounds for using deception in a UK immigration application. This carries serious implications including possible automatic refusal of future UK visa applications and a possible 10 year ban. If you have not been charged with a criminal offence you should select No. Have you ever been involved in, supported or encouraged terrorist activities in any country? Have you ever been a member of, or given support to, an organisation that has been connected with terrorism? Have you ever, by any means or medium, expressed views that justify or glorify terrorist violence, or that may encourage others to commit acts of terrorism or other serious criminal acts? In times of either peace or war have you ever been involved in, or suspected of involvement in, war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide? Have you engaged in any other activities that might indicate that you may not be admitted to the UK? You must answer this question fully and honestly. If you select Yes you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. If you need to answer Yes for this questions then please discuss this with the IST before submitting your application. If you have never been involved in or supported terrorist activities you should select No. You must answer this question fully and honestly. If you select Yes you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. If you need to answer Yes for this questions then please discuss this with the IST before submitting your application. If you have never expressed views to justify terrorism you should select No. You must answer this question fully and honestly. If you select Yes you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. If you need to answer Yes for this questions then please discuss this with the IST before submitting your application. If you have never been involved in war crimes you should select No. You must answer this question fully and honestly. If you select Yes you will then be asked to Please Enter Details in the free text box provided. If you need to answer Yes for this questions then please discuss this with the IST before submitting your application. If we need to interview you, what language would you like to use in the interview? If you have never engaged in any other activities that indicate that you may not be admitted to the UK you should select No. As part of the visa application process you may be required to attend a credibility interview. This is just part of the application process and is for the Embassy or Visa Application Centre to assess your intention and ability to study on the course that you have been accepted onto. 12 Family Details Question Spouse/Partner What is your marital status? Answer You will be asked to give further details of your spouse/partner as follows: Select your marital status from the drop-down list. If you select Married/Civil Partner, Unmarried partner or Fiancé/proposed civil partner then you will be asked Will your spouse/partner be travelling with you? The word Spouse means a husband or a wife. You should state whether your spouse/partner will be travelling to the UK with you at the same time. You will also be asked Current Passport or Travel Document Number. You should type the passport number of your spouse/partner in the text box provided. You will then be asked to give the Nationality of your spouse/partner. You should select their nationality from the drop-down list. You will then be asked to give the Family name/surname and Given name(s)/forename(s) of your spouse/partner. Type their names in the text box provided. Type them exactly as they appear in your spouse/partner s passport. You will then be asked to give the Date of Birth of your spouse/partner. This should be the same as it is written in their passport. Enter the date by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Finally, you will be asked Does your Spouse/partner currently live with you? If you select No, then you will be asked to provide their Address Details. If required, you should type this in the text box provided and select the country from the drop-down list. Father Nationality Family Name/Surname Given name(s)/forename(s) Date of Birth Place of Birth Mother You will be asked to give further details of your father as follows: You should select the nationality of your father using the drop-down list. You should type your father s family name/surname in the text box provided exactly as it appears in his passport. You should type your father s given name(s)/forename(s) in the text box provided exactly as they appear in his passport. You should type your father s date of birth by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. You should type your father s place of birth in the text box provided exactly how it appears in his passport. You should select the nationality of your mother using the drop-down list. You should type your mother s family name/surname in the text box provided exactly as it appears in her passport. You should type your mother s given name(s)/forename(s) in the text box provided exactly as they appear in her passport. You should type your mother s date of birth by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. You should type your mother s place of birth in the text box provided exactly how it appears in her passport. You will be asked to provide further details of any dependent children you have. This means any children who are financially dependent on you. You should select Yes if you have any children who are financially dependent on you. If you select Yes, you will be asked to Please Enter Details. You should select Add and this will open up a new box to provide the following information about the first dependent child you have: Passport or travel document number, if known Nationality Family Name/Surname First Name(s)/Given Name(s) Fate of Birth Place of Birth Is this child travelling with you? Does this child currently live with you? Address Postal code Country Contact number Once you have completed all of the details above select Add. These dependants details will then show in the box provided. If you have more than one dependent child you should select Add to provide the details of all of dependent children before moving on to the next questions. Non-Dependent Children Are any other children travelling with you? You will be asked to provide further details of any dependent children you have. This means any children who are not financially dependent on you. You should select No. If there are other non-dependent children travelling with you and so you need to select Yes, please contact the IST to discuss this further. 14 Medical Treatment Question Have you ever received medical treatment in the UK? Answer If you have ever received medical treatment inside of the UK you must declare this. If you select Yes, you will then be asked Did you have to pay for the treatment? If you were asked to pay for the treatment you should select Yes, otherwise select No. You will then be asked Where did you receive the treatment? You should type the post code of the address where you received the treatment and then select Find. This will bring up the full address. You may need to add a Primary contact no: You should enter the contact telephone number of the place where you received the treatment. Emergency care, such as that provided by hospital Accident & Emergency departments, is usually free, but any follow up treatment may be subject to a charge. If you owe in excess of 1,000 to any NHS body you must declare this or risk having your visa application refused. You will then be asked to give the Treatment start date. Select the date using the calendar icon. Finally, you will be asked to give the Treatment end date. Select the date using the calendar icon. If you have never received medical treatment in the UK before you should select No. When you have completed this section, click Next section at the bottom of the page. 15 Tier 4 Student Sponsor Question Answer You will now be asked to provide information about your Tier 4 sponsor. Give your Tier 4 Sponsor s licence number What is the name of your Sponsor? What is the full address of your Sponsor? This can be found on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement. If your CAS has been issued by the University of Liverpool then you should type 'N5WWG40J6' in the text box provided. Please copy it carefully and type all letters in capitals. If this is not correct your visa will be refused. You should type University of Liverpool in the text box provided. You will be asked to enter the post code. Type L69 7ZX and then select Find address. Once you have done this you should select Foundation Building using the drop-down list below. This should then bring up the following details: Line 1: Foundation Building Line 2: Brownlow Hill Line 3: Liverpool Post Code: L69 7ZX You will then be asked for a Primary Contact number. You should type the University contact number in the text box provided. This is (+44) Studies What is your Confirmation for Acceptance for Studies number? You will now be asked to provide information about your proposed course of study. This means your CAS number. You must have a new CAS number in order to apply for a Tier 4 visa. If you have applied for a visa before, you cannot use the same CAS twice. Your CAS number can be found on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement. Please type it into the text box carefully using capital letters. If this is not entered correctly your visa will be refused. Remember, you will receive your CAS statement by . Print out your CAS and submit this with your visa application. What is the title of your course? What is the level of your course and qualification? You should type the name of your course in the text box provided. For the full title copy it carefully from your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement. If you are going to be studying an undergraduate degree level course then you should type Undergraduate degree - NQF level 6 in the text box provided. If you are going to be studying a Masters degree course then you should type Masters degree NQF level 7 in the text box provided. If you are going to be studying a PhD then you should type PhD NQF International Support Team - version 1 July

16 level 8 in the text box provided. This information should be stated on your CAS. You should copy it as it appears on your CAS statement. Start Date of course End Date of course Have you already started studying this course? Enter the Course start date as it appears on your CAS statement. You should enter the course start date by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. Enter the Course end date as it appears on your CAS statement. You should enter the course end date by typing the date followed by the month followed by the year or by using the calendar icon. If you have not yet started the course of study listed in your CAS statement select No. If you are applying for a new visa to return to the UK to resume your course then select Yes. What is the address of the main site of study? You should type the address of the place whether you will be studying on the University campus. If you know this, then you should type the address in the boxes below. However, if you do not know this yet then type L69 7ZX and then select Find address. Once you have done this you should select Foundation Building using the drop-down list below. This should then bring up the following details: Line 1: Foundation Building Line 2: Brownlow Hill Line 3: Liverpool Post Code: L69 7ZX You will then be asked for a Primary Contact number. You should type the University contact number in the text box provided. This is (+44) Confirm which of the following options apply? Please indicate how you meet the minimum English Language requirement relevant to your course? You should select Studying. You will then be asked Have you been assessed by the sponsor by other means, for example, references or a portfolio of artwork? If you know that you have been assessed by these means then select Yes and Provide details on how you have been assessed. If you have not been assessed by references or a portfolio of artwork (for example, you have completed a previous degree and this was used to assess your academic ability) then select No. Most students will need to select No to this question. Please contact the IST if you are unsure how to answer this. Your CAS should state how you have demonstrated your English Language ability. You must select one of the following options which best explains how your English Language ability was assessed by the University: If you are a National of a majority English speaking country then you should select the first option. You will then be asked to provide your Nationality from the drop-down list. For a list of majority English speaking countries visit International Support Team - version 1 July

If your CAS statement lists a previous academic qualification equivalent to a UK degree that was taught in English then you should select the second option. You will then be asked to Give your academic qualification and the country it was taught in. You should type your qualification and the country it was taught in using the text box provided. If your CAS statement lists an English Language Test that you used to demonstrate your English Language ability then you should select the third option. You will then be asked to provide the details of the test including the awarding body, title of your qualification, level of qualification, date of award and award reference number. You should enter the information as it appears on your English Language test certificate. If your CAS states that your previous study was on a Tier 4 (Child) visa then you should select the fourth option. You will then be asked to provide further information including the name of the institution, title of the course, title of qualification, the year of award, the start date and the end date. If you are a continuing student (applying for a new visa to continue on a course that you have already started) and your CAS was issued by Student Administration then you should select the fifth option that Your sponsor is a Higher Education Institution and has made its own assessment of your English Language ability. You will then be asked Are you required to obtain permission from the Academic Technology Approval Scheme? For more information on whether you are required to obtain an ATAS certificate for your course please visit utsidetheuk/atas/. You should not normally select the final option (that your sponsor considers you to be a gifted student) as this is not something that will normally be written on your CAS statement. If there is something else written on your CAS aside from the options above, or if you are unsure which option to select, please the IST. Maintenance and Fees How much are the fees for your course of study? You will now be asked to provide information about your funds. State the amount of your fees exactly as it appears on your CAS next to the heading 'Course fees'. This amount must be in UK pound sterling. Have any of your course fees been paid? You should type in the text box the amount of your tuition fees for 1 year, whether you have paid part, all or none of it. If you have not paid any of your tuition fees select No. If you have paid some or your entire tuition fee select Yes - paid to UK Education provider. You will then be asked to Please enter the amount GBP( ) and you should state the amount paid in UK pound sterling. This International Support Team - version 1 July

18 amount may be on your CAS statement. If you have made the payment after receiving your CAS statement, you can only include the payment in your application form if you have confirmed with the Fees Office that they have updated your electronic CAS record with this payment. You will then be asked What document has been provided as evidence of payment? If you payment is reflected on your CAS statement then you should select Shown in the CAS. If the payment is not reflected on your CAS statement (because you made the payment after receiving your CAS) then you should select An official or original receipt and you should provide the receipt that you receive from the Fees Office after making your payment. Alternatively, you can still select Shown in the CAS if you have contacted the Fees Office and they have confirmed to you in writing that the fee payment has been updated on your electronic CAS statement. Do you have an established presence in the UK? For this extension application/for this initial application what is your primary site of study? How much funding GBP( ) do you have to cover the maintenance charges? Have any of your accommodation fees been paid to your sponsor? If you have completed 6 months of study in the UK and you still have a valid Tier 4 (General) student visa and you are making your application before your current visa expires, then you will have an established presence in the UK and so can select Yes. If this is your first application or your previous visa has expired or been curtailed or you have only previously studied for less than 6 months then you should select No. If you are studying at the University of Liverpool you should select Outside the inner London Boroughs. Here you should type how much money you have each month to cover your maintenance. In order for your application to be successful you will need to show that you have at least 820 per month for a period of 9 months. Therefore, you should type at least 820 in the text box provided. If you are in private accommodation or are in University accommodation but have not made any payments to the University, select No. If you are living in University accommodation and have paid money to the University for this accommodation (and this is confirmed on your CAS) select 'Yes'. You will then be asked to Please enter the amount GBP( ) and you should state the amount paid in UK pound sterling. This amount may be on your CAS statement. If you have made the payment after receiving your CAS statement, you can only include the payment in your application form if you have confirmed with the Fees Office that they have updated your electronic CAS record with this payment. You will then be asked What document has been provided as evidence of payment? If you payment is reflected on your CAS statement then you should select Shown in the CAS. If the payment is not reflected on your CAS statement (because you made the payment after receiving your CAS) then you should select An official or original receipt and you should provide the receipt that you received from the Fees Office or the Accommodation Office after making your payment. Do you receive support from a financial sponsor that meets the UK Visas and Immigration definition of a financial sponsor? An official financial sponsor is a government or scholarship agency which provides funds to a student for their tuition fee and/or living costs. If you have an official financial sponsor then you should select Yes. You will then be asked What is the name of the official financial sponsor? You should type your sponsors name in the text box provided. You will then be asked How much in GBP( ) is the official financial sponsor or Government sponsor paying towards your expenses? You should type the full amount that you will be receiving from your sponsor per year in the text box provided. You will then be asked to state the Course fees that your sponsor is paying. Type the amount that your sponsor is paying toward your course fees in the text box provided. You may need to check the CAS statement if you are unsure how much your course fees are. You will then be asked to state the Maintenance fees that your sponsor is paying. Type the amount that your sponsor is paying toward your maintenance in the text box provided. You may type this as per month or per year. (e.g. 900 per month or per year). If you are a self-funded student and are not receiving financial sponsorship you should select No. Do you have any remaining fees and maintenance still due for payment? If you have an official financial sponsor and they are paying your full tuition fees and are paying you at least 820 per month then you can select No. If you are self-funded or your sponsor is not paying your tuition fees and your maintenance costs in full then you should select Yes. You will then be asked to state how much you still need to show for your Course fees and your Maintenance as well as the Total amount you still have to show. Please note - if you are a sponsored student and your sponsor is paying you less than 820 per month then you will need to show that you have the rest of the money (i.e. the difference between 820 and the amount that you are actually receiving) available to you in either your own or your parent s bank statements. Do you have money in your own name? If you are a financially sponsored student or you are a self-funded student and providing bank statements in your own name then you should select Yes. You will then be asked What original documents have been supplied showing evidence of funds for the fees that still need to be paid? You should list all documents that you are providing that demonstrate that you are able to pay your tuition fees and maintenance fees. This should include your Official financial sponsor letter if you are fully or partly financially sponsored and/or your Bank statements if you are self-funded or part-financially sponsored. If you are self-funded but you are providing bank statements in your parent s name then you should select No. You will then be asked What evidence have you provided that shows both the amount of funds available and your relationship to your parent s or legal guardians? 20 should list all documents that you are providing that demonstrate that your parents are able to support your financially. This should include your Parents bank statements, your own Birth certificate showing the relationship between you and your parents and a Signed letter from your parents confirming that they consent to you using their money in support of your visa application. Points Claimed Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies Maintenance Total Here you should write the number of points that you are claiming for your visa application. You should type 30 points for CAS. You should type 10 points for Maintenance. You should type 40 points. When you have completed this section, click Next Section at the bottom of the page. International Support Team - version 1 July

21 Additional Information Question Is there any other any other information that you wish to be considered as part of your application? Answer You can use this free text box at the end of the application to include any additional information which you think would be helpful to the caseworker considering your application. For example, if you are relying on both a financial sponsor letter and your own bank statements or there are any documents missing from your application for any reason. Feel free to contact the IST if there is any additional information you are not sure whether you should add here. You do not have to provide any additional information if your application is complete. When you have completed this section, select Confirm application at the bottom of the page. You will then be shown a summary of your application. Please make sure to check all of the information is correct before selecting Submit application at the bottom of the page. If you need to change any information select Return to application. Once you select Submit application you will then be given a warning that you cannot make any further changes once your application has been submitted. If you are happy that all your information is correct then select Submit to finally submit your application. You will then be take back to the My Applications page. 22 My Applications - Final Steps Question Sign Declaration BRP Collection Location Answer You will now be able to select Sign Declaration. Please make sure that you read all the information carefully before writing your name in the Signature section and selecting Sign Declaration. You will then be taken back to the My applications page. You will now be able to select BRP Collection Location. An Assigned Collection Location should appear on the page. This is based on the nearest post office to the address you gave saying where you will live when you arrive in the UK. If you have been given a separate code to enter this will be listed on your CAS statement. If this is the case then you should type this code in the Alternate Location text box. Once you have done this you will need select Confirm and then select Yes. You may wish to make a note of this address so you know where to collect your BRP from once you arrive in the UK, although this will also be written on a letter that you will receive when you visa is issued. Please note - you will need to collect your BRP from the location listed within 7 days of arriving in the UK. Book Appointment You will then be taken back to the My applications page where you will be able to select Book Appointment. This is for you to attend to the Embassy/Visa Application Centre to submit your supporting documents and have your biometric information taken (your photograph and fingerprints). You should select the Region, Location and Visa Appointment Type. You should select PBS Tier 4 Student for your appointment type. You should then select Next at the bottom of the page before selecting your Visa appointment time and date using the calendar on screen. You should then select Next and review your appointment details before selecting Next again. Immigration Health Surcharge Payment You will then be directed to the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) payment page in order to pay your Immigration Health Surcharge. You should select Continue. You should read the information about the IHS before selecting Continue. Your details should then appear on the next page. You should select Complete this applicant. You will then be asked Are you applying from within the UK? You should select No. You will then be asked What visa application centre are you applying through? This should automatically appear based on the information you gave when you booked your appointment. You will then be asked Are you applying to stay in the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey? You should select No and then select Save and Continue at the bottom of the page. You will then be asked the following information: International Support Team - version 1 July

23 Title - Select your title from the drop down list. Given Name - Type all names here which are in your passport, other than your surname/family name (so include all middle names). Family Name - Type your family name/surname here, as it is written in your passport. Type your address. Remember to check your regularly. Nationality - Select the nationality of the passport you are using from the drop down list. Visa Route Select the visa that you will be applying for from the dropdown list. This should be PBS Tier 4 Student. Visa Type Select your visa type from the drop-down list. This should be Tier 4 (General) Student if you are the main applicant. If you are a dependant applying on your own (or with other dependants) you should select Tier 4 (General) Dependant Child or Tier 4 (Dependant) Partner. Course start date Enter your course start date as listed on your CAS statement using the drop down list and typing the year. Your course start date should be listed as day-month-year. Course end date - Enter your course end date as listed on your CAS statement using the drop down list and typing the year. Your course end date should be listed as day-month-year. Passport Number or Travel Document Enter your passport number. This is usually found on the top right hand side of the first page of your passport. Date of Birth - Select the date of your birth using the drop down list and typing the year. Your date of birth should be listed as day-month-year. Once you have completed the information above select Save and continue. You will be taken back to the summary page. Select Continue before being shown a declaration. You should read the declaration carefully before selecting I agree. You will then be shown the IHS fee. You should select Pay now to make your payment. If you do not make your payment for the IHS your application will be refused. Pay for Application Once you have made your IHS payment you will be taken back to the May application page where you should now be able to select Pay for application. You must now pay the fee for your application online. Print Application Once you have made your payment you should be able to Print Application. You should print a copy of your application and take this with you to your appointment. Congratulations you have now made your application. You must attend your appointment at the Visa Application Centre and take all of your original supporting documents with you along with a copy of your completed visa application.
