2 2 Business or Science/Engineering An introduction Loughborough University and Loughborough College are delighted to announce the development of two new International Foundation Programmes in Business and Science/Engineering. Loughborough University and Loughborough College are located on a large, safe, single site campus close to the town centre. Loughborough has a population of approximately, 57,000 with a large student population. The town and campus are surrounded by beautiful, green countryside. Located in the Midlands with excellent transport links to all major cities in the UK. East Midlands Airport is just 30 minutes away offering low cost flights to most major European capital cities. 3 International Foundation Programmes 3 LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY AND LOUGHBOROUGH COLLEGE ARE LOCATED ON A LARGE, SAFE, SINGLE SITE CAMPUS CLOSE TO THE TOWN CENTRE Loughborough College The college celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2009 and has been welcoming and supporting international students for almost 50 years. We deliver British Council Accredited English Language courses which you may begin during any week of our term time. An experienced, dedicated international team can advise and support students during their studies. Help is also available to open bank accounts, register with doctors and the police, and with renewing visas. On arrival each student is allocated a Personal Tutor to guide them through their studies and help them apply for their chosen university. The college tutors are experienced in preparing students for degree study, with students progressing to top UK universities. Entry Requirements Students must be aged 17 and have completed their senior schooling with good qualifi cations and have a level of English equal to an IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. The science syllabus is identical to the university s. In order to achieve the award, students must have a minimum pass in all the modules. Each degree programme at Loughborough University has clearly defi ned foundation course entry requirements. For Business degree programmes a Distinction profi le is required and an interview may be necessary. Assessment for Business and Science/Engineering Work is assessed throughout the course by a combination of essays, assignments and written examinations. For Science/Engineering there will also be practical laboratory lessons. Grading system 70% + Distinction 60% - 69% Merit 40% - 59% Pass A Leading University A Successful College One Single Campus

5 International Foundation Programmes 5 Progression On successful completion of the course students will be awarded a Loughborough University certifi cate. This certifi cate will show the grades achieved in Business or Science/Engineering and in Academic English. Students will also take an IELTS test at the end of their foundation studies. Each degree programme requires different entry requirements. Students are advised to check the university website for entry requirements to their chosen degree programme at Students who achieve the progression criteria for their destination degree programme at Loughborough University are guaranteed a place. 6 6 International Foundation Programmes Teaching and Support Students will receive extremely high quality teaching and support at the college together with rigorous monitoring and validation by the university. All students automically become members of Loughborough University Student Union and have access to all the clubs and societies at the university. On arrival, students have a Personal Tutor to guide and support them throughout their studies. Loughborough College students can also access the Pilkington Library at the university. The Learning Resource Centre has a large collection of books, magazines, DVDs and multi-media facilities. Networked computers offer free internet access. The Language Zone is a self study centre for students wishing to study independently or with guidance. The college s enrichment programme offers students the opportunity to take part in team sports and activities eg football, basketball, music, cookery, digital photography, debating club, badminton, sign language. High standard, self-catering halls of residence are located on the college campus. Students can choose between en suite facilities or shared facilities at a cost of between 53 and 84 per week (minimum 40 weeks). Homestay (living with a local British family) is also available for students wishing to live with a family at a cost of 95 per week and includes meals and laundry. Living in halls is definitely a great idea for your first year.
