2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 17 OCT 16 TO 23 OCT 16 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 16 22: UPDATE 17 15: : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS Mackenzie SAR, North Peace SAR, Prince George SAR and Quesnel SAR members responded to search for a possible drowning victim in the Finlay River. On 21 Oct RCMP requested SAR reactivate following report of a puppy that was found wandering around that belonged to one of the subjects. Apparently there were also tracks that looked like one boot and one sock foot print Prince Rupert SAR members responded to rescue two stranded hikers on Mt Hayes. The subjects were successfully rescued. LAND Terrace SAR members responded to an RCMP request for assistance searching for a person heard yelling from a swampy area in the Goodwin Road area. The subject was rescued and passed to BCAS for transport to hospital. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to search for a missing 16 year old autistic male. The youth was found by the SAR team and brought safely back to his family. CTL LAND Penticton SAR and 4 PEP Air members responded to two missing hunters in the Apex Mountain area. SAR located the subjects waiting by a fire and brought them out in good condition. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to a missing person. SAR was stood down after the subject was located by police. SEA LAND Kaslo SAR members responded to an overdue hunter. SAR was stood down when the hunter walked out on his own. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR, Kimberley SAR and Creston SAR members responded to a possible plane crash in the Moyie Lake area. The SAR team overflew the area with negative results and were stood down. SWE LAND Ridge Meadows SAR, Surrey SAR, Coquitlam SAR and Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to an RCMP request for a missing female in the Golden Ears Park area. The SAR members searched the areas of interest with negative results and were stood down LAND Bulkley Valley SAR, Terrace SAR and Houston SAR members responded to an RCMP request for a missing mushroom picker who failed to meet his wife near the 42 km mark of the Kispiox Valley Road. SAR was stood down after RCMP located subject Burns Lake SAR, Nechako Valley SAR and PEP Air members responded to an RCMP request to search for 2 overdue boaters who were last observed loading a moose into their boat on
3 21 17: : : : : : : : : : : Taltapin Lake, North of Burns Lake. The boat was overloaded with three hunters and a moose and as a result, it swamped. The hunters had to swim ashore and were rescued from the beach cold and wet. SWE LAND Mission SAR members responded to assist with 3 stranded hikers (father and his 2 young daughters) in the Norrish Creek area near Bell Road, Mission. The three were rescued via inflatable boat when the river came up and cut them off. SWE LAND Hope SAR, Kent Harrison SAR and Chilliwack SAR members responded for an injured hiker on Hope Mountain. The hiker was located and assisted off the mountain. She had been overcome by darkness rather than suffering an injury. SWE LAND 4 4 Hope SAR members responded to a potential downed aircraft near Caroline Mines. GSAR was stood down shortly after activation by JRCC. CTL Penticton Marine Rescue and Okanagan Falls Marine Rescue members responded for a vehicle that went off the road and into Skaha Lake. Subject was able to self rescue and Marine Rescue was not required. CTL LAND Vernon SAR member responded to BCAS request for a possible injured hang glider in the Coopers Launch area of Lumby. SAR was stood down prior to mustering after BCAS was able to make verbal contact with pilot who confirmed BCAS and SAR assistance was not required. VIR LAND Juan De Fuca SAR members responded to East Sooke Park for a hiker with an allergic reaction. SAR was stood down by BCAS as BCAS members were able to access the injured subject. SWE LAND Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to Abbotsford Police request for a missing 89 y/o female last spotted walking away from her residence this morning. Subject was located in good condition at the same housing complex Police had originally believed she walked away from. VIR LAND Comox SAR members responded to a missing 68 year old male near Cook Creek Rd and Island Highway in the Comox Valley. Subject has been located and transferred to BCAS NEA LAND PEP Air & 1 Central Cariboo SAR responded to RCMP request to assist in locating a missing family on a hunting trip between Bella Coola and Williams Lake. The family had walked out under own power and in good condition. VIR LAND members of Arrowsmith SAR responded to assist searching for a despondent male in the Parksville area. RCMP pulled over the despondent male. VIR LAND members Campbell River SAR responded to a 70 year old male with shortness of breath on Hanson Island, Dong Chong Bay. Subject was retrieved and
4 24 17: WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE transferred to BCAS for treatment. VIR LAND members West Coast Inland SAR responded to 2 missing hikers along Bomber Trail near Tofino. SAR found the hikers in good condition and brought them back to base ELT ELT - 30
5 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Oct 2016 MISCELLANEOUS On 19 Oct, the task number for a previous Code 2 (13 Oct 2016) spill was assigned to the Heiltsuk First Nation s EOC in Bella Bella in response to the grounding of the tug Nathan E Stewart and barge DBL 55 and the subsequent sinking of the tug in Seaforth Channel outside of Bella Bella.
