1 Pattern Eagle Scout Ceremony-Troop 38 Master of Ceremonies: Walks to the front and turns to face the audience. "Good afternoon (evening). My name is. I am the of Boy Scout Troop 38, and it is my honor to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for this Eagle Court of Honor. Would everyone please stand for the presentation of the Colors. (Color Guard presents colors). Please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. Salute by the numbers. Ready-One I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. Please join me in me in the Scout Oath and Law. Scout Salute by the numbers. One On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent Ready-Two-You may be seated. Invocation Master of Ceremonies continues- I would now like to introduce to offer our invocation. : comes to the podium and delivers the Invocation. Since there may be members of the Hebrew faith present, it is best NOT to say In Jesus name, and to refer to God generally.

2 Convening of the National Court of Honor Master of Ceremonies continues- Thank you very much. I would now like to introduce who will convene our National Court of Honor. comes to the podium. By the authority vested in me as a representative of the Susquehanna Council and the National Council, Boy Scouts of America, I declare this Court of Honor to be convened. The Scouting movement constitutes one of the most wholesome and significant influences in the world today. Many successful, well-known persons are Eagle Scouts -- a former President of the United States, and a film director whose films have won world-wide acclaim, most of the original astronauts, and many outstanding sports personalities. The Eagle candidate whose efforts culminate this evening in the presentation of the Eagle badge, has labored long and hard. Today is not the end of his Scouting career. Today is the first day in his life as a member of the brotherhood of Eagle Scouts. Troop 38 Committee Welcome: Master of Ceremonies continues- I would now like to introduce who will offer greetings from the Troop 38 Committee. comes to the podium. "Scouts, Scouters, and friends of Scouting, I would like to welcome you to this Eagle Court of Honor. This is an occasion for pride and joy, as well as a time for serious reflection. The Eagle is the highest recognition that Scouting offers to Scouts. Only about one boy in ten accepts the challenge of Scouting, and only about 5% of all Scouts ever wear an Eagle Badge. Thus, only about one adult in every four hundred is an Eagle Scout. The wearer of the Eagle award is the epitome of Scouting's best efforts and beliefs. On behalf of the Church of Saint Ann, and the Committee and adult volunteer leaders of Troop 38, I extend to and his family our most sincere congratulations on a job well done. Significance of the Eagle Badge. Master of Ceremonies continues: "The presentation of the Eagle Scout Award is an important and serious matter. For the Eagle candidate, this is the climax in his Scouting efforts. The attainment of this award is made possible through the assistance of those with the candidate tonight, his Troop leaders, fellow Scouts, parents, family, friends, and members of the community. This is an occasion for pride and joy, as well as a time for serious reflection. The Eagle is the highest recognition offered in Scouting. It is earned through the advancement program. The wearer of the Eagle award is the embodiment of Scouting's best efforts and beliefs. has distinguished himself through his continued performance of active service in Scouting. He is trained and practiced in his leadership abilities. And, he is marked by the character gained through an understanding of his citizenship and religious beliefs. It is important that each of us understands the meaning of the Eagle Badge."

3 The Eagle Honor Guard speaks from the rear of the room. It would be ideal to have seven speakers. Speaker One: "The appeal of the majestic eagle has been felt by every great people from prehistoric times to the present day. To the Egyptians, the eagle was the messenger of the gods and the sun, a symbol of eternal life. To the Romans, he was the carrier of Jupiter's thunderbolts and a sign of power. To American Indians he stood as the incentive to valor and the pledge of victory. For us today, the eagle is the living symbol of all courageous and freedom-aspiring Americans. When the Eagle Scout badge was designed in 1912, it was decided that a small silver eagle would be suspended from a tricolor ribbon of red, white, and blue. So it remains today." Speaker Two: "The foremost responsibility of an Eagle Scout is to live with honor. To an Eagle Scout, honor is the foundation of all character. He knows that 'a Scout is trustworthy' is the very first point of the Scout Law for a good reason. An Eagle Scout lives honorably, not only because honor is important to him, but because of the vital significance of the example he sets for other scouts. Living honorably reflects credit on his home, his church, his troop, and his community. May the white of the Eagle Badge remind you to always live with honor." Speaker Three: "The second obligation of an Eagle Scout is loyalty. A Scout is true to his family, scout leaders, friends, school, and nation. His loyalty to his troop and brother scouts makes him pitch in and carry his share of the load. All of these help to build the loyalty which means devotion to community, to country, to one's own ideals, and to God. Let the blue of the Eagle Badge always inspire your loyalty." Speaker Four: "The third obligation of an Eagle Scout is to be courageous. Courage has always been a quality by which men measure themselves and others. To a scout, bravery means not only the courage to face physical danger, but the determination to stand up for the right. Trusting in God, with faith in his fellow man, he looks forward to each day, seeking his share of the world's work to do. Let the red of the Eagle Badge remind you always of courage." Speaker Five: The fourth obligation of an Eagle Scout is to be cheerful. To remind the Eagle Scout to always wear a smile, the red, white, and blue ribbon is attached to the scroll of the Second Class Scout award, which has its ends turned up in a smile." Speaker Six: "The final responsibility of an Eagle Scout is service. The Eagle Scout extends a helping hand to those who still toil up Scouting's trail, just as others helped him in his climb to the Eagle. The performance of the daily good turn takes on a new meaning when he enters a more adult life of continuing service to others. The Eagle stands as protector of the weak and helpless. He aids and comforts the unfortunate and the oppressed. He upholds the rights of others while defending his own. He will always 'be prepared' to put forth his best." Speaker Seven: "You are deserving of much credit in having achieved Scouting's highest award. However, wear your award with humility, ever mindful that the Eagle Scout is looked up to as an example. May the Scout Oath and the Scout Law be your guide for tomorrow and onward."

Honor Guard escorts parents to the front, joined by Eagle Candidate. Eagle Candidate. Before I present you with your Eagle Scout Award, it is fitting that we recognize the support and sacrifice of your parents. Your father has undoubtedly been a primary source of help in your Scout work. He will help you carry the standards of your award to the highest peak of attainment, since the very best is expected of an Eagle Scout in exemplary conduct, character, achievement, and leadership ability. In honor of his support, I ask you to present your father with the Eagle Dad Pin. Your mother has undoubtedly been your greatest source of inspiration in your quest for the Eagle Award. In honor of his support, I ask you to present your mother with the Eagle Mon Pin. Ladies and Gentlemen, please join me in congratulating our newest Troop 38 Eagle Scout. (Wild applause lasting for hours) : Would the Honor Guard please escort the parents of our newest Eagle Scout back to their seats. Honor Guard escorts parents back to their seats. Eagle Charge: Master of Ceremonies continues- I would now like to introduce who will conduct the conduct the Eagle Charge. comes to the podium. I have the honor to give you the Eagle Scout charge on the occasion of your elevation to the highest rank in Scouting. The Boy Scouts of all nations constitute one of the most wholesome and significant movements in the world's history and you have been counted worthy of this high rank in the Boy Scouts of America. All who know you rejoice in your achievement. Your position, as you well know, is one of honor and responsibility. You are a marked man. As an Eagle Scout you have assumed a solemn obligation to do your duty to god to country, to your fellow Scouts and to mankind in general. This is a great undertaking. As you live up to your obligations you bring honor to yourself and to your brother Scouts. Your responsibility goes beyond your fellow Scouts to your country and your god. America has many good things to give

5 you and your children after you; but these things depend for the most part on the quality of her citizens. Our country has had a great past. You are here to make the future greater. I charge you to undertake your citizenship with a solemn dedication. Be a leader, but, lead only towards the best. Lift up every task you do and every office you hold to the high level of service to god and to your fellow man. So live and serve that these who know you, will be inspired to the finest living. We have too many who use their strength and their brains to exploit others and to gain selfish ends. I charge you to be among those who dedicate their skills and ability to the common good. Build America on the solid foundations of clean living, honest work, unselfish citizenship and reverence for god and, whatever others say or may do, you leave behind you a record of which every Scout may be justly proud. On behalf of the Court of Honor of the Susquehanna Council, Boy Scouts of America, with the high hope that you will always represent the finest of character and citizenship, we welcome you into the brotherhood of Eagle Scouts and congratulate you, your parents and your Scout leaders. I reaffirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath. I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of the rank of Eagle Scout. On my honor, I will do my best to make my training an example, and make my rank and influence strongly count for better scouting and for better citizenship, in my troop, in my community, and in my contact with other people, regardless of race, color, or creed.
