1 Trinity C of E School Collective Worship Policy Our Collective Worship Policy helps our school to meet our School Aim: Trinity School Spiritual Quote Every act of kindness and compassion done for humankind is done by Christ working within us. Julian of Norwich (Changed to inclusive language) Purpose of this Policy This policy is intended to support all school staff in delivering collective worship. This policy is available on the website and Q drive, therefore accessible for parents and children as well as staff, and should be read in conjunction with all other school policies. Our collective worship policy strengthens and supports the distinctive Christian character of our school, reaffirms our Christian values, encourages personal development in faith and participation in the community of faith both in school and local area as well as the world. Worship reflects the variety of traditions found in the Church of England as well as other Christian traditions and recognises and follows the Church s liturgical year. The daily Christian act of worship is central to our ethos, identity and is supported by all staff and governors. 1
2 Our Ethos Statement and Trinity School Code are reflected in all acts of worship throughout our school community. We aim to enhance a good learning environment and there is a deliberate attempt to link the gospel of Christ with Daily life of the school through worship, relationships, courtesy and behaviour. Ethos Statement Trinity School Bible Quote I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you should love one another. John Christ is the centre of our school community where we live, love and learn together. We provide a safe environment in which a young person is valued as an individual made in the image of God, and in which they can find security, acceptance, confidence and an opportunity to develop their potential. We aim to create a caring and happy community in which our Christian ethos, underpinned by our values, is upheld. Central to our ethos are the teachings of Jesus Christ. Central to our life are the daily practices of our faith. Central to the growth of each young person is the instilling within them a sense of self worth and love in light of our faith. Trinity pupils say: Respect others, be truthful and trustworthy Individual achievement is highly valued The Trinity School Code No bullying, racism, physical or emotional violence Independence should be encouraged Treat others as you wish to be treated You are a member of a caring community 2
3 Aims Collective worship at Trinity supports the school s Biblical and Spiritual quotations that provide the core Christian foundation for our Christian life within our community. Julian of Norwich (Changed to inclusive language) Collective worship brings the school together either in tutor, hall or canteen this unites us as a community in faith and prepares us to begin the day rooted in Christ. To underpin our relationship with God, Son and Holy Spirit. To reflect on our explicit Christian values of Forgiveness, Compassion and Hope. To develop personal spirituality through prayer and reflection, creativity and a range of other experiences. To develop a young person s enquiring mind and give opportunities to express and explore their own views openly. To develop a community spirit, common ethos and shared Christian values. To foster an awareness of and engagement in the world around them and a sense of place within it. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development Participation in collective worship offers opportunities to support the development of all our children in these areas, particularly Spiritual and Moral, through exploration of their personal responses to the Word of God and the teachings of Christ. Children learn to respect and listen with each other and others, and develop a better understanding of themselves, their local, national and global communities. The Anglican Tradition Daily collective worship focuses on a bible passage, prayer and music. We begin each day with a true sense of gathering in the name of God, son and Holy Spirit. We observe the seasonal cycle of the Church s Year -Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter, plus days such as All Souls and Pentecost, Harvest and Trinity Day are observed and celebrated. Every service or observance aims to encourage whole school engagement but also allows time for personal reflection and growth. Visible signs and symbols of our Christian foundation are around the school; cross in every classroom, pictures of our Christian life, TV screen displaying Christian values and Chapel life related to the season and painted murals outside Learning and saying prayers from a number of sources, for example the Lord s Prayer and the school prayer. Using Anglican Liturgy using Common Worship. Singing a wide variety of Christian songs and hymns. Experiencing Christian symbolism in worship and reflecting their meaning e.g. cross, bread, wine, candle and liturgical colours. Using prayer, silence and reflection. Celebrating a weekly Eucharist. 3
4 Implementation Collective worship is a legal requirement. In line with the statutory requirement, a Christian act of collective worship is provided for all pupils every day. All teachers attend all acts of collective worship. Time allocated to collective worship is not part of the curriculum time. 5 Resources Powerpoints are given to guide and support tutor time worship and all collective acts of worship in the school. Distinctive Christian Value worship cards are provided for every tutor group for specific worship per value. This includes the value, Bible passage and prayer related to the value. This is also covered in a small SoW in RE when pupils begin their schooling at Trinity. Powerpoint explaining how to lead worship, specifically for new teachers to the school, explaining how to lead a tutor act of worship. Pupils have opportunity for a variety of worship experiences, including music, prayer, silence, Bible readings and imagery. Monitoring and Evaluation Regular termly worship committee meetings. Reports to Teaching, learning and worship governors termly. Fortnightly worship review meetings with Principle. Ongoing pupil/teacher feedback evaluated by Mr Mace; worship reviewed accordingly.
