3 GStream Media Quick Start Guide Welcome to GStream! Seven quick steps to get you going: 1. First, login to your user account at 2. From your account, set up an account on ROKU by clicking the ROKU ACCOUNT link in the top right-hand corner of your workspace this is a free service allowing you to link your Roku sticks or ROKU television with your private GStream channel. 3. From your new account on the ROKU website, select "Add a Channel", and enter GStream. (page 26) 4. Return back to your gstreammedia.com account and add a new stream (your broadcast of the images and video that you upload). (pages 6-7) 5. Place your stick in the TV (page 27) (or if a ROKU ready TV, simply turn on) and follow the prompts using the Roku remote. (pages 28 33) 6. Now you're ready to watch your broadcast. Open the GStream app on the Roku homepage screen by locating the GStream icon. Click the RIGHT arrow on your Roku remote to enter the stream passphrase displayed under your stream name in your gstreammedia.com account, and "Finished". (pages 34 35) 7. 4 Getting to know your Workspace Once you have accessed your GStream account, you need to become familiar with your workspace this is where you will be creating, uploading, organizing, saving, and selecting all of your content for your broadcasts. Once logged in, your workspace will include five main sections (1) Streams (2) Feeds (3) Content (4) Broadcast (5) Create (6) Dashboard* Streams A stream is composed of the content you would like displayed on screen. Any of the streams you create become a broadcast for your channel. You can create as many streams as you want, and you can rename them, delete them, or keep them for future reference. A stream does not become live until you manually say so. Each stream has a unique identifier located under its name the GStream channel knows which stream to broadcast based on this identifier, the passphrase. You will use your ROKU remote control and your TV to enter the passphrase of the stream you want to broadcast on the GStream channel. * admin user accounts only 4 P a g e

5 Note: You will only need to enter the passphrase once, when you initially access your GStream channel for the first time. After that, you can change streams through the Broadcast feature detailed on pages Feeds A feed is all content being pulled from social media (Flickr, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest). Similar to streams, you can create as many feeds as you d like. You can drag and drop any of the content pulled from your feed(s) into any of your streams for real-time display in your broadcast. Content The content section is place for storing and saving all of your content. Note: Storage space is limited to 500mb. Broadcast The broadcast feature allows you to play your streams on a location-based schedule. Broadcast allows you to specify when your streams play, how often and for how long. You can schedule broadcasts down to the minute, as far into the future as desired. For users with Roku ready TVs, this is where you can turn your TV on and off. Create Create simple content with our built-in editor by accessing the create function. If you have existing media that you d like to checkpoint to ensure proper aspect ratio for television, upload that content here. Dashboard For administrative user accounts with multiple campaign managers (sub account users), manage existing and new sub account users who will insert their content into the master account stream (broadcast), and the various streams and locations associated with the master account, through dashboard. 5 P a g e

6 Create a Stream (Broadcast) 1) Go to 2) Click on the green Login button in the top right corner. 3) If you are already signed up, enter your login information. If not, click on the Sign Up link under the cranberry-colored sign up dialogue box. You will receive an shortly with instructions for signing in. 4) Once you have successfully logged in and the GStream admin interface comes up, on the left you will see two main sections Streams and Feeds. 5) To start a new stream, click on the + Add New Stream link appearing in green on the left under Streams. Remember, the streams you create are broadcast only when you manually enter the passphrase appearing under the stream name or through the Broadcast feature so create away and experiment a little with all of the different looks, feels and flows of the streams. 6 P a g e

7 Upload Content to your Stream 1) To start uploading content (digital media) into your broadcast, click the + button to the right of the passphrase. 2) Enter the required information for all of the fields in the dialogue box. 3) Upload your digital media -.png or.jpeg or.mp4 files only. Note:.mp4 video files must be 2 minutes (20 MB) or less Your streams are saved automatically they only disappear when you manually delete them. 7 P a g e

8 Opening and Closing your Stream To open a stream, click on the name of the stream to the left of the screen, in the Streams section. To close the stream, click on the name again (DO NOT CLICK THE x BUTTON TO CLOSE A STREAM). Renaming your Stream To edit the name of a stream, click on the edit icon to the right of the passphrase. Deleting your Stream To delete a stream, click on the x button to the right of the passphrase. 8 P a g e

10 Accessing your Social Media Content through Feeds 1) To access a feed from one of your social media accounts (Flickr, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram), click on the + Add New Feed link appearing in green on the left under Feeds. 2) Select the desired social media engine by clicking on the icon. Flickr Enter a key word to search for images on Flickr related to that key word. 10 P a g e

11 Instagram (IG) After clicking on the IG icon, click on the authorize link and when prompted, enter your IG username and password. Once entered, you will see a feed has been created under Feeds this includes all of the most current content existing in that social media account. 11 P a g e

12 Twitter To access tweets relevant to a specific keyword or phrase, click on the Twitter icon, and in the search box type a hashtag + keyword or phrase (no spaces). Pinterest After clicking on the Pinterest icon, click on the authorize link. 12 P a g e

13 When prompted, enter your Pinterest username and password. Once entered, a dialogue box will be displayed verifying permission to access your Pinterest content. Click OK. 13 P a g e

14 You will see a feed has been created under Feeds this includes all of the most current content existing in that social media account. Now that you have your social media content, drag and drop this content into any one of your streams by opening up a desired stream and a desired feed (by clicking on their titles) so they display side-by-side. Select a tile from feeds and drag and drop it into your desired stream. Enter the required information when prompted. 14 P a g e

15 Content 1) Upload digital media you may want to repurpose or future reference by clicking on the + Add New Folder link appearing in green on the left under Saved Files. 2) Once you have named your folder, you will be immediately prompted to add media into it. Enter information in the required fields. 15 P a g e

16 3) Choose a file. Click Save. Your folder now has saved media in it. 4) To add additional media, upload content into your folder as you would adding content to a new stream. 16 P a g e

17 5) To add content in your Saved Files to any of your streams, click the + button to the right of the file name. 6) Choose a stream to add a copy of your file to from the dropdown menu (all of the streams that you have created and named will appear in this dropdown). You will see this content in that stream when you click Return to workspace and open up that stream. 17 P a g e

18 Create 1) Create a slide for any stream by utilizing the Text, Image and Shapes functions in the editor any design fitting into the white box will be sized perfectly for a 4:3 aspect ratio for television. 2) Upload existing media by selecting Image, and Choose (the GStream logo will default appear upon selecting Image, but will be overwritten once you select a new image by clicking Choose). Note: If you are using the editor as a built-in checkpoint to ensure your digital media is sized appropriately for television, you can upload existing media from your Saved Files only (upload media into Saved Files folders first). 18 P a g e

19 3) You will be prompted to select an image only from your Saved Files folder(s) appearing in the dropdown. Select the desired folder from the drop down and the desired image by clicking on the image once to select it. Close the box by clicking on the x in the top right-hand corner of the dialogue box. 4) Your uploaded image will need to be re-sized use the handles to resize and center the image. Make sure Rotation is set to zero if you want a centered display. 19 P a g e

20 5) Make sure you save your newly sized image back into your Saved Files folder. You can then transfer this image to any stream from that folder by returning to the Content section. 20 P a g e

21 Broadcast 1) Schedule any of your streams by clicking the + button to the right of Schedule. 2) Enter in the time and location-based scheduling information for as many streams desired. Click Create Schedule. 21 P a g e

22 3) Click on the side arrows to find your scheduled broadcast in the scheduling lineup. Note: Once a broadcast s scheduling expires, the system will return to the account s default* stream. *the default stream is determined by the stream passphrase entered in the GStream channel on the television using the ROKU remote. 22 P a g e

23 Dashboard Overview To view total stream plays and feeds associated with the master admin account, click on the Overview link on the left-hand side of the screen under Dashboard. Streams View all streams associated with the master account by clicking on Streams. To add other streams for insertion into a master stream/broadcast, click the Edit > Source Account and then Update. To remove this insertion at any time, enter back in through Edit and click the Remove button and Update. Note: If you would like to insert other streams into a master stream, choose the Edit option under the master stream name. Next choose the stream(s) under Add Source Account that you would like inserted into that master stream. 23 P a g e

24 Users View all users associated with the GStream account by clicking on the Users link. Click Edit to update information* for a user and click Add New to add a new sub account user. *The master account should be assigned the Organization Admin role. 24 P a g e

26 Add your GStream Channel 1) Go to 2) Click on the Sign in button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. 3) If you don t already have an account, follow the steps to Create a Roku account. 4) Once your account has been established, under Manage Account, select Add a Channel. 5) Enter GSTREAM as your Channel Access Code and click Add Channel. 26 P a g e

27 Connect your Streaming Stick When you are ready to view your stream(s) on a television, follow these steps for non-roku ready TVs: 1) Turn your television on. 2) Connect your ROKU stick to its power source cable. 3) Plug your ROKU stick into the HDMI port on your TV, and plug your ROKU power cable into the USB port on your TV. (Note: if your television does not have a USB connection, you can plug the USB connector into a USB-connective plug, and plug into an outlet). 4) Using your TELEVISION remote, find the source or input button and select the appropriate source associated with a plugged in device (usually, HDMI2). 5) Once selected, you should see the ROKU home screen appear. 27 P a g e

28 Link your ROKU stick or ROKU television 1) Select the appropriate language you wish your channel to appear in. 2) On the next screen, select Continue by pressing the OK button. 28 P a g e

29 3) ROKU will automatically search for your Wi-Fi connectivity. 4) Using your ROKU remote, enter your Wi-Fi password and then using the arrow keys on your remote, scroll down to Connect and press the OK button. 29 P a g e

30 5) Select Continue by pressing the OK button on your remote. 6) Follow the instructions on the next screen by going to and entering the code shown on your TV screen. 30 P a g e

31 7) Click Submit on the roku.com/link screen. 8) Answer the question Do you have a ROKU account, when prompted. If no, follow the link to create one and the site will take you through the steps in linking your television channel and stick to your online ROKU account. If yes, click Yes, I already have one. 9) ROKU will link your online account with you ROKU TV or ROKU stick. 31 P a g e

32 10) Follow the prompts to add channels, if desired. These channels will appear on the ROKU home screen on your TV. 11) Press Continue. 12) You re All Set! Your ROKU TV (or stick) is now linked to your account. 32 P a g e

33 13) Press the right arrow button on your ROKU remote, or the home button (picture of a house). You will be taken to the ROKU home screen. Using the arrow buttons on your remote, scroll to find the GStream channel icon. Select it by pressing the OK button. 33 P a g e

34 Watch Your Broadcast When you are ready to watch a particular stream on a TV, follow these steps: 1) Make sure you are connected to Wi-fi (ROKU remote: Home > Settings > Network). Note: For non-roku ready televisions, make sure your ROKU stick is connected to both an HDMI (for streaming) and USB (for power) port in your television. 2) Using your ROKU remote, find the GStream channel icon using the arrow keys. Once you have highlighted the channel icon, select OK on your remote. 3) Click the RIGHT arrow to get to the LEFT of the GStream logo. You will see the words "Hit OK Button to Link Your GStream Account". Click the OK button on your remote. 34 P a g e

35 4) Once in the screen, click the remote's LEFT arrow key - "Hit OK Button to Link Your GStream Account". Click the OK button. Note: You will only need to do this once (unless there is a power outage); after this initial setup, you will use the BROADCAST feature within your GStream user account. Using your ROKU remote, enter the letters of the passphrase (case sensitive) associated with the specific stream you want to broadcast, and scroll down to Finished when complete. Click the OK button on your remote. 5) To view your stream, click the remote's RIGHT arrow key - "Hit OK Button to Stream Your GStream". Click the OK button.
