2 Euterpe System-on-Chip Digital Voice Processor Aimed at applications in automotive systems and household appliances, STMicroelectronics Euterpe Digital Voice Processor is the most compact automotive-grade solution for adding voice processing capabilities. In a single chip it includes a powerful embedded Digital Signal Processor core optimized for audio applications, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, code and data memory, external memory management and an I2C interface for communication with a host processor. Using proven DSP code supplied by well known third parties it can perform Speech Recognition, Text-To-Speech conversion, Speaker Verification, Noise Suppression, Echo Cancellation and other voice processing functions. Developers can also add their own code to diversify their products. Speech processing technology is the key to adding safety and convenience features to in-car information centers, allowing drivers to use navigation systems and cellular phones without taking their eyes off the road or their hands off the wheel. It also offers value added features like background Noise and Echo Cancellation for cellular phones, or new services like listening to your as you drive. In home automation, too, the convenience of voice actuation replaces remote controls with a more user-friendly interface.

3 Inside the Euterpe System-on-Chip Digital Voice Processor Compact, versatile, simple-to-use and cost effective, STMicroelectronics Euterpe Digital Voice Processor brings powerful voice processing capabilities to your automotive system or household appliance. On a single TQFP80-packaged chip it integrates a 24-bit 50MIPs DSP core, 48kBytes of code memory, 48Kbytes of data RAM, a 16-bit sigma-delta stereo CODEC, a memory manager for up to 32Mbits of Flash memory and an I 2 C serial interface. The chip is controlled through the serial bus by the system microcontroller. Speech Recognition software by Lernout & Hauspie supports both speaker independent and speaker dependent modes, has multilanguage support and is specially optimized for noisy environments. Text-To-Speech San Francisco San Francisco 380 m Text-To-Speech converts an ASCII text strings into a high-quality vocal message. It can be used to translate traffic message text into audible announcements, or to listen to incoming as you drive. Sophisticated software by Lernout & Hauspie correctly pronounces words, interprets numbers and reads out unrecognized strings character by character. Multiple languages are supported by the same DSP code. Speaker Verification Speaker Verification provides accurate identification of the speaker by comparing the voice password with a previously analyzed sample, enhancing the security of access control to both physical areas and computer systems. With Speaker Verification a password must be spoken by the authorized user to be validated. The voice password is memorized in a small file, suitable for storage on memory cards

Noise cancelling functionality integrated. Noise Suppression Noise Suppression enhances the quality of voice signals in noisy automotive or industrial environments, making speech recognition more reliable and enhancing the quality of cellular phone conversations. The Noise Suppression engine is based on proven technology by Altec Lansing. VOICE Full Duplex Echo Cancellation ECHO Echo Cancellation eliminates the characteristic annoying echo of handsfree phones, making the voice easier to understand and the conversation less stressful. As legislation increasingly requires the use of only handsfree phones in vehicles this feature is becoming more popular. The Echo Cancellation engine is provided by Altec Lansing.
