2 Advantages of TIME-SERT TIME-SERT is a solid bushing insert This guarantees easy installation and allows for full load use of tapped hole, ensuring protection against stress and vibration. TIME-SERT is thinwalled This is due to synchronized internal and external threads. Thin cross sectional area allows for installation in areas of limited space and clearance material. TIME-SERT has positive placement Having a flange on the top of the insert will insure that the insert will have positive placement and cannot wind down into the newly repaired hole. TIME-SERT is self locking On installation the bottom internal threads of the insert are cold rolled to expand the mating external threads into the base material locking the insert in place. Locking mechanism is at the bottom of the insert. 3 Kit Content & Installation Steps Kit Contents: A HSS Drill Bit B Counterbore C Tap D E Installation Driver (5) Steel Inserts A B C D E Use of cutting fluid is recommended for drilling, counterboring, and tapping. Step 1: Drill out the damaged thread all the way to the bottom using HSS drill bit A. Be sure to keep the borehole aligned. Cut + Cool Cutting and Drilling Oil Step 2: Machine the borehole with seat cutter B deep enough that the depth stop gets in contact with the work piece. Step 3: Using thread tap C, cut the thread for the TIME-SERT bushing. Be sure to keep the borehole aligned. Step 4: Blow out the shavings. Lubricate insertion tool D and screw in bushing manually into the TIME-SERT thread. Step 5: Once the bushing sits flush with the surface, the remaining threads are formed using the insertion tool D. The repair is complete when the tool can be turned with less resistance. Art #

6 BIG-SERT Kit BIG-SERT is a heavy wall solid bushing. Easy to install with positive placement. BIG-SERT gives increased load protection for critical use. BIG-SERT will repair oversize holes which have previously been repaired. For repair of Spark Plug Threads M14 X If repair with TIME- SERT is no longer possible. Threads which have been prviously repaired or cut too big can be renewed with the BIG- SERT thread repair kit The BIG-SERT insert comprises a 4-fold torque out lock The BIG-SERT external thread is M18 X 1.5, the internal thread M14 X 1.25 Maximum diameter for repair should be 16.3mm or 0.64 respectively NOTE: Kit does not contain inserts or sealer - order separately. Art # Application Step 1 Using the T-handle wrench and the step reamer, ream the hole to the full depth permitted by the stop collar. Keep the reamer as square as possible to the hole. Step 2 Use the piloted tap and tap the hole. Keep the tap as square as possible. Thoroughly clean and dry the hole. Step 3 Hold the insert setting tool and use hex wrench to lightly tighten the socket head cap screw. Screw the insert onto the setting tool. Apply a small amount of high temperature sealer around the bottom few threads of the insert. Use a 5/8 socket to screw the insert firmly into the prepared hole. Release cap screw with hex key. Then use a 5/8 socket and remove the setting tool. Step 4 Use oil on this tool. Use the T-handle wrench to rotate the insert driver through the insert. When the driver tightens up, continue to rotate the driving tool until it loosens up. Remove the tool by backing it out or screwing it through the insert.
7 TIME-SERT Spark Plug Kits / Inserts Kit Size Kit Art # M10 x 1.0 Art # M12 x 1.25 Art # M14 x 1.25 Art # Spark Plug Types NOTE: Spark Plug Kits do not include inserts. Taper Seat Washer Seat Application Step 1 Step 2 Sealer This sealer must be used when installing taper seat inserts. Start step tap into the hole to be repaired. Use the wrench and tap new threads. Continue to tap through until the cutting edges are approximately 1/4 below surface. Insert Driver Oil This oil is superior for installing inserts. Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Leave the step tap in the hole and place the seat cutter over the shank. Using the wrench, rotate the seat cutter. After a few turns, lift the seat cutter to inspect the seat. Repeat operation until the seat is completely cleaned up. Back the step tap from the hole while removing any burrs from the top thread. Lubricate the insert driver and start insert into hole. Use the wrench and rotate the driver through the insert. When the insert is seated the driver will tighten up. With increased pressure continue to rotate the driver until it loosens up. Remove driver tool. Repair is complete. Solid steel treads are square to the reconditioned seat, insuring a good spark plug seal.
