4 Overview The AT&T Global Network Client Mobility Edition is a program that allows quick installation by choosing your options up front via a User Interface. It also gives IT departments the ability to create their own custom installer for MSI based installs or a single executable. 5 AT&T Global Network Client Mobility Edition Overview AT&T Global Network Client Mobility Edition Overview The AT&T Global Network Client Mobility Edition is software that allows Windows computers to easily access the Internet from many locations around the world through Mobility or Wi-Fi. 6 Preparing for Installation System Requirements The AT&T Global Network Client and its components are supported on the following operating systems and hardware. (The AT&T Global Network Client may function properly on other operating systems and lesser hardware, but it is not formally tested or supported): Operating System Software Hardware Windows XP (SP2 or later) 1, Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 8/Windows 8 Pro Administrator Rights Required: The user must have administrator rights when the installation is executed. Windows Installer 3.5 or later.net Framework 4.0 SP1 MSXML 3 or 4 Windows XP IBM PC or 100% compatible 800 MHz processor higher recommended 1 MB RAM or higher recommended Windows Vista & Windows 7 IBM PC or 100% compatible 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor 2 MB RAM or higher recommended Cross OS Requirements 250 MB free disk space Dial connection: 14,400 modem recognized & configured by Windows Wi-Fi connection: wireless adapter that adheres to NDIS 5 specifications and tested by AT&T Mobile connection: PC Mobile Card 1 Microsoft Wireless LAN API (KB918997) is required for private Wi-Fi connections using Windows XP; it is included in Windows XP SP3. 7 The following limitations apply to support for Windows 8: 1) Windows RT is not supported 2) Tethering of RIM devices is not yet supported as RIM device drivers for Windows 8 are not yet available 3) As with previous releases, drivers for embedded devices are provided by the laptop manufacturer (check for availability before upgrading) 4) When connecting to attwifi and some partner hot spots, the operating system may unnecessarily display the browser 5) Lightweight Policy Enforcement does not reliably detect Windows Defender in Windows 8 Requirements for Installation & Use Before starting the AT&T Global Network Mobility Client installation and setup, verify you have the information required in the following checklist. If you are missing any information, please contact your AT&T account administrator. - Administrator rights to install or upgrade - The Mobility Edition Quick Installer executable will be required. - Hardware/Equipment necessary to establish network connectivity. For example, Mobility modem/card. Installation The AT&T Global Network Client installation is packaged using Microsoft Windows Installer and InstallShield 2011 and can be installed and updated locally. Terminology specific to Windows Installer is used in this document and a basic knowledge of Windows Installer is useful when administrating the installation of the client package. 8 Selecting the MRAS Edition: Figure 2: Selecting the Edition to be installed Mobility Only The Mobility only edition is designed for users who want to control when to connect with a Mobility connection. Mobility Always Connected The Persistent Connection Edition gives the AT&T Global Network Client a simple User Interface by removing many potentially unwanted features to make the Mobility experience as seamless and simple as possible. By enabling the Persistent Connection feature, the Client will always attempt to connect or reconnect if the connection drops. The installer adds a shortcut to the All Users Start up menu so the client will always run when Windows starts up. This edition is ideal for Public Safety installs where the UI is hidden in the System Tray. Copyright 2013 AT&T. All Rights Reserved. -8-

9 Selecting the Mobility Device Drivers to Install: Selecting the desired drivers to be installed Figure 3: Install All Drivers By default, all device drivers are preinstalled on the system. Once a mobility device is plugged in, the appropriate device drivers will be installed from the preinstall driver cache. Don t install any Drivers Use this option if you install your own drivers for your devices. GOBI devices are a good example. Install Individual Drivers This option allows you to preinstall specific manufacture drivers, e.g. Sierra Wireless. All other drivers will not be preinstalled. Install Sierra Wireless in NDIS 5 Mode This is a solution to resolve incompatibility issues with Cisco IPSec Client and Windows 7 With Windows 7, Microsoft introduced the Mobile Broadband (MB) driver model that more tightly integrates wireless modems and WWAN devices within Windows. The changes were fairly significant and included an update to the Windows NDIS (Network Driver Interface Specification) to version 6.2. Any network application that performs packet capture, filtering, or injection at the MAC layer (such as VPN clients) will likely have compatibility issues with the mobile broadband stack in Windows 7. As of publication, many IPSec VPN Clients have not been updated to support NDIS 6.2. Copyright 2013 AT&T. All Rights Reserved. -9-

10 By checking this option with the Quick installer, the AGNC client will install the Sierra Wireless NDIS 5 drivers. Please be aware that by not using NDIS 6 drivers with Microsoft s Windows Mobile Broadband, the performance of your Sierra Device will be slower. Sierra Wireless Legacy Drivers If you want to install older Sierra Wireless legacy drivers, you can select this but the newer versions cannot coexist with their newer counterparts. Even if you select the newer options allow with these legacy drivers, the new drivers will not be installed. Custom APN Options Figure 4: Selecting Custom APN options to be used Custom APN Enter the custom APN as directed by your AT&T account team. Lock device to 3G This option will lock the mobility device to 3G (4G speeds) to allow 3G custom APNs to work. APN Locked Using this option will not allow the user to change the APN Custom APN Username Enter the custom APN username ONLY if directed by your AT&T account team. Custom APN Password Enter the custom APN as directed by your AT&T account team. Copyright 2013 AT&T. All Rights Reserved. -10-

11 Do not install the Change Custom APN Utility The Change Custom APN Utility is installed by default to allow easy change to APN you desire to connect with. Some customers who use a custom do not want users to change the APN to allow full internet access may not want this user undocumented utility available. Check this box to not install the utility. NOTE: The utility will install whatever is input whether the input is valid or not. Invalid input will cause the client to fail to connect. If the Utility is installed, can be found at {Program Files}\AT&T Global Network Client\ChangeAPN.exe. If the Utility is installed, can be found at {Program Files}\AT&T Global Network Client\ChangeAPN.exe. GPS Options The GPS always on turns on the NMEA port to allow third party GPS Tracking Applications to monitor location of vehicles. Connection Options The Connection Options allow you to tell the AGNC how it should and when it can connect. Figure 5: Selecting Custom APN options to be used Start AGNC after Windows comes up This option will add a shortcut to the Start Menu/Startup group to allow the client to run every time Microsoft Windows runs. This option is installed by default for the Persistent Connection Edition to allow the mobile connection to reconnect if the connection drops. Copyright 2013 AT&T. All Rights Reserved. -11-

12 AGNC Option at Windows logon screen This option adds the AGN Client to allow the user to connect at the Windows Logon prompt \ Figure 6: XP and Windows 7 launch before logging into System AutoConnect Mode (NDIS Mode) Use this option to set your mobility device to connect by itself when the system starts up. You must run the client once with the device plugged in to allow the client to set the device into AutoConnect mode. Suppress Reboot Installation will not prompt for a reboot when the installation finishes. This however is not recommended unless the IT team is handling the reboot themselves. Create IT Install File for future installs using these install options This option will create a directory with two files under the directory where the MRAS Feature Edition is executed from. The Mobility.ini file controls all the options for the executable to install with. These two files can be used for all subsequent installations via your IT push. 15 Appendix A: Supported Mobility Devices AT&T LaptopConnect Supported Devices A list of device drivers that are installed automatically with the LaptopConnect Edition of the AT&T Client, see the Admin guide of the generic LaptopConnect edition at: Other Supported Mobility Devices A list of devices is supported for use with the AT&T Client, but installation and configuration of the device must be manually performed outside of the AT&T Global Network Client installation process.
