1 California State University, Fullerton s School of Nursing offers the following program options for School Nurse education: 1. Post SNSC Master of Science in Nursing, School Nurse Concentration (For students who have completed SNSC, coursework for MSN ) 2. School Nurse Services Credential (Coursework for the SNSC) The CSU Fullerton Nursing Faculty recognizes that school nursing practice requires significant autonomy and skill. The school nurse has responsibility to influence the health and well being of individual students and to advance their academic success and lifelong achievement. The school nurse also influences the health and well-being of families, communities and school district faculty and staff. Well prepared school nurses are critical to the health of our society. The focus of the school nurse credential/concentration is to provide quality advanced practice education that will be accessible to a diverse RN student population employed as school nurses. The course work is online (see course descriptions (included) for the few on-campus meetings required). The credential/concentration emphasizes development of safe and effective school health care providers for a diverse population of children and families through acquisition of knowledge and skills that are commensurate with current evidence. Faculty are dedicated to preparing school nurses as advanced practitioners with skills to address the complex and unique role of the school nurse and with a strong foundation in school health care research, theory and practice. Faculty will provide a comprehensive educational foundation that encompasses child development and health, health management within school systems, and health education. This foundation prepares the professional school nurse to facilitate positive responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning (NASN, June 1999). Prospective students are encouraged to attend an information session that will provide more information about the online school nursing programs. Information about the application process, waivers for previously taken coursework, scholarships and program expectations will be covered. The SNSC is accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing The CSUF Master's degree program in Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

2 Admissions Requirements Applicants must meet California State University, Fullerton and School of Nursing requirements for admission. Current CA RN license, unrestricted, with no disciplinary action pending or imposed A Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) or related field from a professionally accredited institution (as determined by Admissions and Records). Foreign degrees: If the Baccalaureate degree was completed outside of the United States, have it evaluated by an agency for equivalency to a Baccalaureate degree in the US, and for the conversion of your Grade Point (GPA) to a 4.0 scale. Evaluation Services are listed in this packet. TOEFL: All applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English, must demonstrate competence in English by taking the TOFEL test. A minimum score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) on the TOEFL Test is required. The IELTS test with a score of 7 or higher may substitute. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the Baccalaureate degree. Upper-division course in statistics. To request evaluation of a lower division statistics course, please fax a detailed syllabus to (657) and include your address. Baccalaureate Upper-division course in community health nursing (theory and 90+ clinical hours that make a student eligible for PHN certification) completed with a grade of C or better. Only upper-division Community Health Nursing courses will be accepted. California Preliminary School Nurse Services Credential (SNSC Applicants) Final California School Nurse Services Credential (MSN applicants) Application Process Priority Application Deadline December 15 th. Your application will be considered complete once all of the following steps are fulfilled. Before you begin, please review and be sure you meet our pre-requisite requirements. The requirements may be in progress at time of application as long as they will be complete prior to your requested admission term. Step 1 California State University Graduate Application SNSC applicants will choose Nursing (Credential Only) as your Major, and School Nursing as your Credential Master of Science in Nursing applicants will choose the Master of Science in Nursing with concentration in School Nursing Students who have a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than nursing submit School of Nursing application only (step 2). When completion of prerequisites has been determined, you may complete the CSUF Graduate Application.

3 Step 2 School of Nursing Application: Complete our application (included here) and submit Checklist items in one packet to the address listed. We will forward one set of your transcripts to Admissions and Records. After you have submitted an application to the University, Admissions will you an acknowledgement letter confirming that they have received your application and providing you with your CWID and PIN to access your Student Portal. Allow a few weeks to receive this. They advise all applicants to check their Student Portal frequently at CSUF Admissions & Records will notify you of admission status by and via your Student Center. Recommendation Forms (3) completed, signed, and submitted in sealed envelopes Current RN license, unrestricted, with no disciplinary action pending or imposed Transcripts: Two (2) sets of official, sealed transcripts from every college attended. Admissions and Records will not complete your application until they have an original transcript from each and every school. One set of what you provide will be given to them on your behalf. CSUF graduates may submit unofficial transcripts for CSUF coursework (and prerequisites, if completed elsewhere). There is no need to submit other transcripts, unless additional coursework was taken after graduation. Foreign graduates must submit a sealed evaluation report and sealed official transcripts from all colleges attended. (An official report and photocopies of the transcripts will be accepted initially, but prior to registration in the second term sealed official copies must be submitted.) 8 Secondary Items (To be gathered after Admission): Admitted students will submit the items below to our online documents management service and keep them current throughout their education. Additional items will be added prior to clinical placement, and as requirements in the field evolve. Directions will be provided in your Nursing admission letter, but as some items take time, you may wish to start gathering now. Background Check through Certified Background (wait for later instructions) CPR BLS card (through American Heart Association) Negative PPD (good for one year) or healthy chest x-ray interpretation (good for two years) Titers- - Students must show immunity (a positive or reactive result) to the following diseases Measles Mumps Rubella Varicella Hepatitis B All Immunization records. If any of your titers are negative, these will be used to guide you in completing the requirements. Annual health examination (health clearance): A report signed by the physician, physician s assistant, or nurse practitioner. This report shall verify that student does not have any health condition(s) that would create a hazard to themselves, employees or patients. 9 FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS If you completed your degree in a university outside of the United States, you will need to have your degree evaluated by an outside agency for US BSN equivalency and conversion of your BSN GPA to a 4.0 scale.
