1 . Midland College Licensed Vocational Nurse to Associate Degree Nursing Option Admission Information
2 The Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) Program at Midland College is a one year program leading to an Associate in Applied Science degree. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and by the Texas Board of Nursing. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). (See Important Eligibility Information.) Admission Requirements 1. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is the pre-entrance exam for the program. A minimum grade must be achieved in reading, math and English. Six (6) TEAS points from the minimum scores are required to be considered for admission. Exam Minimum Score Points Reading = 4 Math = 4 57 = 1 English = 4 Science None 90 = 4 60 = 1 1 A student scoring 85 or greater on the math portion of the TEAS is eligible to test out of RNSG 1108, Dosage and Calculations for Nursing The TEAS test must be taken within two (2) years prior to admission to the A.D.N. program. Should the student choose to take the TEAS a second time, the student must wait a minimum of three (3) months between exams. If the student is unable to attain minimum scores after two (2) attempts, remedial classes will be recommended. The TEAS test contains approximately 170 items that are divided between the four content areas mentioned above. The exam takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. The exam is offered at the Midland College Testing Center. Course ENGL 1302, Composition and Literature A = 2 SPSS 0210, Student Success Healthcare Studies A = 1 Points 4. Proof of current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license. 5. Proof of completed Hepatitis B vaccination series or tier verification 6. GPA greater than or equal to 2.0 in all courses required for the degree 7. Internet based TOEFL is required for all international students. International students are born and/or educated through high school outside the United States. The student must achieve a minimum of 79 in order to be considered for admission. Admission Process 1. The student is strongly encouraged to attend a group advisement meeting for information regarding the application process. A schedule of meeting times can be obtained by calling 432/ Only completed files are accepted by the nursing clerk. The completed file consists of the following: Health Sciences Application Transcripts of applicable college work and required point courses Proof that TSI requirements have been met Copy of TEAS scores Proof of LVN license Proof of three Hepatitis B vaccinations or titer (lab test) showing immunity Completed Criminal History Background Check form Documentation of TOEFL scores for international students At the time of application, students may submit unofficial copies of transcripts showing courses used to satisfy admission requirements. Upon acceptance into the A.D.N. program, students must obtain official copies of college transcripts. 3. Students are elected for admission based on a completed applicant file and accumulated admission points. In the event that two students achieve the same admission scores, the TEAS composite score will be used to determine admission. 4. All non-nursing courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

In addition to nursing courses, students must complete the following courses in order to receive an Associate in Applied Science degree: BIOL 2401, Anatomy and Physiology I BIOL 2402, Anatomy and Physiology II BIOL 2421, Microbiology for Science Majors ENGL 1301, Composition and Rhetoric PSYC 2301, Introduction to Psychology PSYC 2314, Lifespan Growth and Development Humanities Elective (ENGL 1302, Composition and Literature preferred) 2. Students are encouraged to take as many of the non-nursing courses as possible prior to entering the program, however all non-nursing courses must be taken no later than the semester in which they are listed on the Associate Degree Nursing course progression schedule (see Midland College Catalog) for fall and spring admissions. Important Eligibility Information An applicant to the Associate Degree Nursing Program must be potentially eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. The applicant who has been convicted of a felony is not eligible to apply to enter the program until he or she has received a declaratory order from the Texas Board of Nursing granting permission to take the NCLEX-RN. Such an applicant should contact the Texas Board of Nursing for guidance in petitioning the Board for a decision of eligibility prior to applying for entry to the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Midland College. The Board s statement of eligibility must be submitted to the Associate Degree Nursing program director prior to the application deadline. Other circumstances that may affect eligibility to take the exam include misdemeanors, intemperate use of alcohol or drugs and certain mental illnesses.
