Low Income and Affordable Housing: The County of Los Angeles Housing Authority provides Section 8 vouchers for those looking for a reduced rent based on income. HUD/Section 8 may also be used to pay mobile home space rent. You can either contact Los Angeles County Housing Authority at , or come to the Joslyn Center to be placed on the waiting list.. Assisted living residences and convalescent facilities do not accept HUD Section 8. Please consult with you physician or Elder Link (free referral service at ). You may also request a referral list from Wise Senior Services Long Term Care Ombudsman at The Ombudsman provides advocacy for persons living in assisted living, convalescent care, and group homes. Basic amenities include meals, daily activities, exercise programs and transportation to scheduled outings or appointments. 8 Skilled Nursing, Alzheimer s, and Rehabilitation Facilities: These facilities offer skilled nursing care and are licensed by the Department of Health Services. Licensed trained professionals staff them, such as: registered nurses (RN), licensed vocational nurses (LVN), and certified nursing assistants (CAN). Many offer occupational, speech and physical rehabilitation services. Some will accept patients who have I.V. s, g-tubes and/or tracheotomies. Alzheimer s facilities offer specialized programs for residents suffering from Alzheimer s disease or other forms of memory loss.
