3 Introduction This document is gathering mobility grants schemes between Ireland and France for students or researchers. These grants are funded by the Irish authorities or by non-lucrative organisations. They fund the cost of study and/or research in France. Some of these grants are given to young researchers working in collaboration between France and Ireland. It is the case for example of the Ulysses programme funded jointly by the Irish Research Councils and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other schemes are research supplement financing the cost of international collaboration. The data (Amount, conditions, duration ) given in this document were gathered from the funding agencies in January They can change with time. We invite the reader to contact the funding agencies directly in order to know exactly the schemes details. For each grant described in this document, contact details are given. This information will also be online through CampusFrance at the following link The same portal is also compiling a list of mobility grants funded by French organisations. The information is given in French and in English. Students willing to study in France are invited to contact the international office of the Irish institution where they study (University, Institute of Technology, College ). It will guide and inform them about all funding and help possible. French Embassy in Ireland 3

4 SFI - UREKA International Exchange Programme In an effort to foster closer links with the international research community, SFI is supportive of formalising an exchange programme between a currently funded UREKA Site and a similar international programme, such as an REU Site in America. The UREKA Site and the international site must have a complementary research focus. Irish students can be sent abroad to participate in an international programme and international students can come to Ireland to participate in a UREKA Site. Only UREKA Sites funded in 2006, 2007 or 2008 can apply for funding to establish an international exchange. Essentially, a UREKA Site must have hosted students for at least one year before they can apply for an international exchange award. SFI considers a one to one reciprocal exchange between a UREKA Site and a single international site to be optimal. However, SFI will consider exchanges between a UREKA Site and up to two international sites. 1. Program description 1.1 Summary: Please sign up to SFI ealerts for up to date information on future calls. 1.2 Type of grant: Research 1.3 Value/Benefits: If a UREKA Site is setting up an exchange with an international site, additional funds be requested. Funds can be requested to ensure that Irish students attending the international site have the equivalent stipend to the resident students and to cover visa application expenses. Funds for an exchange can be requested for the remaining years of the UREKA Site. 1.4 Duration: UREKA Sites are funded for up to three years and consist of a group of researchers and a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 undergraduate students who are assigned research projects. Students must apply directly to the UREKA site. 1.5 Number of grants: There are 17 UREKA Sites currently funded. A maximum of 2 students can be exchanged between the UREKA Site and the international site. 2. Eligibility criteria 2.1 Countries Ireland and another country French Embassy in Ireland 4
