1 1929 MonoCoach N11872 Mono Aircraft Company The Last Surviving Airworthy MonoCoach in Existence! Own a Piece of History! Mono Aircraft only certified and produced 22 of these aircraft. This aircraft was number twelve, as indicated by serial number Often referred to as the Sister Ship to the Spirit of St. Louis, the original fourteen were powered by the Wright J-5, 220 horsepower engine. Serial numbers 15 to 22 were powered by Wright J6 7. This aircraft was re-powered in 1947 with a Wright R760-8 which produce 235 horsepower at 2000 RPM at SL. Howard Hughes chartered this aircraft when it was owned by Bennets Flying Service in Sacramento Ca. It also transported the governor of California, known as Sunny Jim Rolph, between This is a rare opportunity to own an incredible, one of a kind, antique plane with a fascinating history, beautifully restored to its former glory.

Airframe SN: 5012 Original Tail number: N114K Total Time 10 Since Complete Restoration Engine Wright R760-8 which produce 235 horsepower at 2000 RPM at SL SMOH Propeller Hamilton Standard ground adjustable Zero since OH Additional Equipments & Options N11772 was built in 1929 by the Mono Aircraft Company of Moline, IL. Originally licensed as N114K, the number was changed to N T T air frame (which is basically new) is 1915 hours, Engine hours since major overhaul, original 30 x 5 wheels, 32 x 6 tires, struts are by Fokker, brakes are mechanical by Bendix, cover is by STC d poly-fiber. Struts are new with 5/8 inch forks, engineered by a DER, fabricated by William Piper. The propeller is 0 (zero) time Hamilton standard, ground adjustable. 3 From the current owner: This is a historic aircraft. I acquired it in 1993 and completed it in Restoring and building aircraft have been my passion for 40 years. William Piper Mr. Piper has extensively researched the history of this aircraft, and has documentation about it, including a copy of a letter signed by Don Luscombe, VP of Mono-Aircraft, on Mono-Aircraft letterhead, offering this Monocoach for $7500 in March, 1929.

4 This aircraft is very similar to the Ryan, which was never certified. The Monocoach has the same adjustable stabilizer, same wing, USAB 35 airfoil, 75 inch chord. The wing appears the same except the Bows are clipped. I asked John Underwood why the Monocoach was known as the Sister Ship to the Spirit of St. Louis. The above image answers that. Bill Piper

6 The panel is duplicate of the original, the original is in storage and is included in the parts package. Notice that the original Mono Aircraft plate is at the lower right. Dual rudder pedals and control sticks and original engine control quadrant. The only modern update is the ELT and switches for lights.

7 The Monocoach is six(6) weeks older than I. I did most of the restoration in my winter home shop in Arizona. It is registered in the U.S. because I assumed it would eventually...be sold in that market. There is a good record file on this aircraft. John Underwood who authored the book Monocoupes and Men has advised me that that Howard Hughes chartered this aircraft when it was owned by Bennets Flying Service in Sacramento Ca. It also transported the governor of California between He was known as Sunny Jim Rolph. This aircraft has had a history of individual ownerships since WWII. It was a working aircraft during WW II. Since that time there have been several restorations that were really only cosmetic. My restoration is closer to the original TC and is registered Standard Category. This was not an easy task in that I had to engage a DER and complete a number of field approvals. I had to build the struts and complete fuselage. This was accomplished with a DAR S oversight. 8 I damaged this aircraft in 2003 when a snap ring failed on the oleo piston allowing the left gear to fall away. We landed and damaged the gear, prop and left spar. The engine was torn down in California. The prop was replaced because the original would not make inspection. The new prop is 0 timed and is not polished. The wing spar was only cracked. The crack occurred at the front strut attachment point and had to be replaced. It was replaced with an aircraft quality Sitka Spruce spar. The landing gear wasn t extensively damaged but required some new members to acquire proper alignment. Bill Piper Mr. Piper also has a good set of logs on the aircraft, and had an IA do a pre-cover inspection on the wing after replacing the spar. Final inspection will be performed when the plane sells, so you'll have a fresh annual.
