It further explores the ways in which the problems resulting from these changes sparked the Progressive movement and increased calls for reform. 3 DECEMBER Unit: The United States as an Expansionist Nation This unit studies expansion and imperialism and the ways in which, beginning in the second half of the 19 th century, economic, political and cultural factors contributed to a push for westward expansion and a more aggressive United States foreign policy. 4 JANUARY/FEBRUARY Unit: WWI and the United States Between Wars This unit studies the ways in which various diplomatic, economic and ideological factors contributed to the decision of the United States to enter World War I. It further explores the ways in which the lives of Americans were significantly altered by U. S. involvement in the war. It also studies the economic prosperity, technological innovations and workplace changes that characterized postwar America. CDOS 3a. 6: Students use technology to acquire, organize & communicate information by entering, modifying, retrieving & storing data. 5 MARCH/APRIL Unit: The United States Assumes Worldwide Responsibilities This unit studies the ways in which the aggression of the Axis powers threatened United States security and led to its entry into World War II as well as the ways in which the nature and consequences of warfare during World War II transformed the United States and the global community. It explores the international efforts to protect human rights and prevent future wars that resulted from the damage from total warfare and atrocities such as the Holocaust. CDOS 3a. 6: Students use technology to acquire, organize & communicate information by entering, modifying, retrieving & storing data. 6 MAY/JUNE Unit: From World War II to the Present: The Changing Nature of the American People This unit studies the effects natural increases and immigration had on the post World War II sharp increase in population and the changes to the American landscape and the shifts in political power that resulted. It further explores the way an aging population is affecting the economy and straining public resources.
