2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Project Descriptions: The RiverSmart MacFarland project is along portions of Georgia Avenue, Allison Street, and Iowa Avenue and some of the nearby alleys. Work includes construction of facilities to reduce stormwater volume runoff. Work includes the construction of permeable paving and bioretention areas. Permeable paving in alleys, roads, and parking lanes provides on-site drainage and infiltration for storm water. Bioretention areas, also called rain gardens, in tree areas and curb bump-outs use landscaped planting areas to hold storm water and infiltrate into the soil. When constructed, the storm water flow will be monitored and measured to calculate the stormwater runoff reduction and evaluate its effectiveness for use in other neighborhoods. The RiverSmart Lafayette project covers areas along 33rd, Rittenhouse, Quesada, 32nd and Patterson Streets. Work includes construction of permeable paving and bioretention areas. Permeable paving in alleys, roads, and parking lanes provide on-site infiltration areas for storm water. Bioretention areas, also called rain gardens, in tree areas and curb bump-outs use landscaped plantings to hold storm water and infiltrate into the soil. The Green Alleys Chevy Chase project reconstructs the alleys between Rittenhouse St., Broad Branch Rd., 34th Place, 33rd Street and Quesada St. The entire alley will be constructed using full width pervious concrete, center strip of pervious concrete, and standard concrete. This project reduces the quantity of storm water runoff and improves the water quality prior to it entering the Districts storm sewer system. Proposed work will include but not be limited to: Bioretention areas, or rain gardens in tree box areas Permeable paving in alleys, roads, and parking lanes Curb bump-outs

3 STATUS OF CONSTRUCTION / PROGRESS SUMMARY Progress Summary: MacFarland: This week, work continued with the competed installation of permeable pavers and filled joints on Alley 3 North. On Iowa Ave, a test pit was performed to locate the depth of the sewer line, which was then backfilled and compacted, asphalt was then placed to cover. In addition, the waterline was located where it crossed Iowa Ave at the school and ran along between curb and sidewalk in the green area. Also on Iowa Ave excavation was started and completed for the construction of PFF7 in 100ft sections. Aggregate was placed in compacted layers as excavation was completed in each section to hasten the installation of PFF7. The edge curb was formed, concrete place and forms were removed. #57 Stone base was placed, followed by #8 stone that was sloped toward the concrete gutter. Soldier course of pavers was placed along the edges of PFF& and the remaining pavers were placed in the pattern that was previously agreed upon. Chevy Chase: The contractor placed #57 stone for the pervious concrete section and aggregate base course material (GAB) for the PCC section of Alley 1. The PCC section of Alley 1 at Rittenhouse St. between STA and was then installed. Lastly, the infiltration test was performed on the test panel section of Alley 3. DAILY WORK PERFORMED Field construction activities performed during this period: Monday 6/30/14: MacFarland: The contractor completed installation of permeable bricks on Alley 3 North between Alley 4 and Allison Street and filled openings and joints of bricks with double washed #8 stone aggregate. Then, re-compacted paving bricks and swept the surface clean. The contractor also performed test pit on Iowa Avenue NW at STA 22+13, to determine the depth and the kind of the main sewer line. The test pit excavated measured 9 ½ ft deep to the top of the pipe. The test pit was backfilled with borrow materials in layers 8" thick and top of pit was sealed with asphalt. The waterline was marked today by the Locator, it crosses Iowa Avenue at STA from the school and runs along the green area between curb and sidewalk. Chevy Chase: The contractor worked on the placement of #57 stone for the pervious concrete section of Alley 1 between STA & STA and placed compacted aggregate base materials (GAB) for the PCC section of Alley 1 at Rittenhouse St. from STA To STA Tuesday 7/1/14: MacFarland: The contractor began hard surface excavation for the second 100 ft. sections of PPF7 located along the northbound lane of Iowa Avenue NW, from STA to STA The broken concrete debris was loaded into dump trucks and hauled away. 3" filter layer of double washed #8 stone was placed first, followed by double washed #2 stone. All work was performed in accordance with DDOT Special Provision for aggregate base course for permeable pavement and bioretention. Chevy Chase: the contractor continued working on the placement of #57 stone for the pervious concrete section of Alley 1 between STA & STA and the PCC section between STA &

4 Wednesday 7/2/14: MacFarland: The contractor completed the placement and compaction of double washed #2 stone and started the placement and compaction of double washed #57 stone at structure PPF 7 - from St to St on Iowa Avenue and installed the PCC edge curb. Chevy Chase: The contractor installed the PCC section of Alley 1 at Rittenhouse St. between STA and Also the infiltration test was performed on the test panel section of Alley 3. Thursday 7/3/14: MacFarland: The contractor continued Iowa Avenue NW, with construction of PPF 7 from St to St The contractor spread and graded #8 stone material to slope towards the concrete gutter. In addition, paver placement commenced by installing soldier courses on both long edges of PPF 7. Other pavers were laid between soldier courses in accordance with the pattern discussed between Bob of Eagle Bay and the contractor Foreman last Tuesday. Chevy Chase: No work performed on this date. Friday 7/4/14: MacFarland: No work this day due to Federal holiday Chevy Chase: No work this day due to Federal holiday.
