Intermediate Elijah is 17 years old and will be a senior at North High School. He is active in cross country and track and enjoys hiking. Elijah has the last lunch period at school and he finds that he gets extremely hungry before lunch. He needs a snack he can put in his locker or backpack to eat before lunch. He would also like a quick and light snack to eat before cross country or track practice, or when he goes out hiking. Elijah wants to eat healthy and find a snack that is low in calories and fat, yet high in fiber. Elijah pays for his own snacks with his allowance so cost is a consideration. He heard that granola bars might be the best choice for what he needs. Which granola bar should Elijah choose? Criteria: 1) Low Calories 2) Low Fat 3) High Fiber 4) Low Cost

#1 Fiber One Oats and Peanut Butter Serving: 1 bar Cost: $3.59 for 5 bars ($0.72 per serving) 150 calories 4.5 grams fat (7% Daily Value) 3 grams protein 9 grams fiber (35% Daily Value)
#2 Nature Valley Oats N Honey Serving: 2 bars Cost: $2.99 for 12 bars ($.50 per serving) 190 calories 6 grams fat (9% Daily Value) 4 grams protein 2 grams fiber (8% Daily Value) # #2#Proerteerwererterteewerwe
#3 Quacker Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bar Serving: 1 bar Cost: $2.84 for 10 bars ($.28 per serving) 100 calories 3 grams fat (5% Daily Value) 1 gram protein 1 gram fiber (4% Daily Value)
#4 Kashi TLC Chewy Trail Mix Serving: 1 bar Cost: $5.19 for 6 bars ($.87 per serving) 130 calories 5 grams fat (8% Daily Value) 5 grams protein 4 grams fiber (16% Daily Value)
Official Placement: Cuts:4,2,3 Placing: Cuts: Official Placing I place this class of granola bars All of the granola bars in the class would be convenient and practical as a snack, but not serve as a meal replacement. I place applaud #3 and place it at the top of the class. It is the lowest in fat with only 3 grams or 5% Daily Value, lowest in calories (100) as well as lowest in cost at only $.28 per bar. In the top pair I place #3 over #1 because #3 in lower in fat, calories and cost. Granted, 1# has considerably more fiber at 9 grams compared to #3 having only 1 gram of fiber. In a close middle pair I place #1 over #4. The Fiber One Oats and Peanut Butter granola bar in #1 is slightly lower in fat (4.8 grams or 7% Daily Value) and has over twice the fiber found in #4. #1 is also lower in cost than #4. Granted, #4 is lower in calories (130) than #1 (150) In the bottom pair I place #4 over #2. #4 is slightly lower in fat (5 grams fat or 8% Daily Value) and considerably lower in calories with 130 calories compared to 190 calories in #2. #4 also has twice the fiber (4 grams or 16% Daily Value) than 2 (2 grams). Granted, #2 is lower in cost than #4. I fault #2 and leave it at the bottom of the class because it has the highest fat (6 grams fat or 9% Daily Value) content and the highest number of calories (190) per serving of any of the granola bars in the class. For these reasons, I place this class of granola bars as
