13 The Distinctive Nature of Learning and Teaching in a Catholic School The Catholic school is a sacred landscape where faith and knowledge are in dialogue. In this holy place, the formation of the religious and cultural identities of the learners is enacted.

14 Contemporary Learning for the Twenty-First Century The rate of technological and social change requires new ways of learning that equip students to be lifelong learners and persons better adapted to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

15 Contemporary Catholic Curriculum and Pedagogy and Teaching in a Catholic School The curriculum of the Catholic school is designed to demonstrate the value it holds for the dignity of the human person, a preferred culture of community and its commitment to social justice and service for the common good.

24 Innovation Tool The Innovation Tool is one of the key strategies in the development of contemporary learning communities in Learning Centred Schools, A Sacred Landscape. The tool is designed to progress learning for teachers and students through attending to all levels of leadership within a school as well considering the interplay of the five Innovation Streams.

25 Innovation Tool Learning Centred Schools Learning and Teaching Framework Learning Centred Schools Learning and Teaching Strategy Contemporary Learning Schema Innovation Streams Leadership for Learning Curriculum by Design Transforming Pedagogy Mapping the Contemporary Landscape Learning Centred Schools, A Sacred Landscape: Learning and Teaching Framework outlines a vision of student learning that is both powerful and contemporary and integrates faith, life and culture. To support schools to enact this vision of student learning, five innovation streams are outlined in the Learning and Teaching framework. The five innovation streams are Leadership for Learning; Curriculum by Design; Transforming Pedagogy; Assessment for Learning and Teaching; and Learning Environments. These are all interconnected and schools may focus on one or all as they embark on their own innovation strategies. The Innovation Tools have been developed to help schools better understand the Innovation Streams. They support the widest range of contexts possible to ensure relevance in an ever changing environment. Celebrating the good things we are doing in our schools is fundamental. These tools help schools work out where they are now in the complex work of change and innovation. They also help leaders in schools determine a way forward that is right for them. 26 Innovation Tool Tools in Context Scenarios School Leader Teacher Leader Classroom Leader Finding yourself in the Landscape The Innovation Tools have been developed for 3 levels of leadership within a school: School Leaders, Teacher Leaders and Classroom Leaders. People in various levels of leadership within the school environment can use the tools to find themselves within the landscape and start planning for future innovation that connects in a meaningful way to school improvement. Each of the five innovation streams are represented within the three levels of leadership. Within these levels, are the innovation elements. Schools can select their level of leadership, the Innovation Stream they feel best suits their situation and the elements they wish to focus on.
