1 How to Structure the Personal Project Report

3 v A report is a spoken or written account of something observed, heard, done or investigated. v A report aims to inform, as clearly and succinctly as possible. v The MYP personal project report demonstrates your engagement with your personal project by summarizing your experiences and skills recorded in your process journal.

4 Sections of the Report The report should be presented in four identifiable sections: ü Investigating ü Planning ü Taking action ü Reflecting {see your PP Guide pages for more details on each section}

5 Format of the Report When you are planning your report, you should consider your learning preferences, your personal strengths and what resources you have available when deciding on the best format for the report. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely is essential to demonstrate the elements of the report and reach the highest levels of the criteria. If you re having difficulty deciding what format to use, talk with your PP supervisor or drop by the IB office to ask Ms. Thornhill or Ms. Dolha.

6 Format of the Report: Required Length Format Written Length 1,500 3,500 words Electronic (website, blog, slideshow) 1,500 3,500 words Oral (podcast, radio broadcast, recorded) minutes Visual (film) minutes

7 Don t Procrastinate! As the report is a component of the MYP personal project, make sure you plan your time carefully. Planning, drafting, rehearsing and preparing materials are all necessary steps - be aware of the amount of time required to complete the report. Be careful to ensure that your report is a distinct component of the MYP personal project make it original and don t just print and staple together a collection of your process journal entries! The report is separate from the product.

8 What You Need to Include When submitting the report for assessment, you must include: ü the personal project cover sheet (available on Managebac and from your supervisor in January) or a recorded intro ü the completed academic honesty form (your supervisor should already have this; you handed it in) ü process journal extracts à print these, take screenshots of them and include in your visual presentation, Powerpoint etc. ü any supporting visual aids used during the presentation, if applicable (photographs, illustrated diagrams, blueprints etc.) ü bibliography/sources (check Carson s website under the library section)

9 There is a special sheet you need to fill out; your cover sheet or recorded intro should include: The title of your project Your first and last name The length (word count or amount of time) The date Our school name This information should be recorded first in a video/sound recording.

10 Try to select process journal entries that showcase how you ve developed in each area of the personal project: A: Investigating (your goal, your research) B: Planning (your overall plan, your process journals, your time management) C: Taking action (your product and its connection to your chosen global context) D: Reflecting (your thoughts on how completing the project has made you more knowledgeable, and how you ve developed as an IB learner Learner Profile traits)

11 Selecting Process Journal Extracts These extracts are attached at the end of a written report, as the final slides of a visual report, or handed in to your supervisor if you made a video or sound recording. Choose a minimum of five and a maximum of ten process journal entries

12 visual thinking diagrams bulleted lists charts short paragraphs notes timelines, action plans annotated illustrations *annotated means they are accompanied by your notes annotated research artifacts from inspirational visits to museums, performances, galleries pictures, photographs, sketches up to 30 seconds of visual or audio material screenshots of a blog or website self and peer assessment feedback. Any materials that you used in your personal project should also be included with the process journal extracts, for example, maybe you created a questionnaire or survey you should include a segment of that completed survey for your supervisor to see.

13 Your first draft of the report is due: January 13 th *hand in to your supervisor so they can give you feedback {Take your supervisor s feedback into account and make changes to your report} The final draft of your report is due: February 18 th (the day of the Personal Project presentations!)
