1 Construction SikaGrout -3 Technology for high Precision, Non-Shrink, Expanding, Natural Aggregate Grout

3 Performance Understanding Grouting Specification Details Strength Development Good compressive strength development: High early strength (24 hrs) >5 MPa and final strength >8 MPa: At different temperatures At different mixing ratios (for different consistency in use) In different curing conditions Strength Development at different Temperatures ( consistency) 8 Strength Development with different Mixing Ratios (Consistencies) (2 C) 2 Strength Development in different Curing Conditions (2 C, consistency) 2 Compressive Strength Measurement Measurements to the standards: ASTM C-78, ASTM C-9 (American) DIN EN 96- (German / European) consistency* consistency* consistency* under water 95% r.h. 5% r.h * Consistencies according to ASTM C23/C827/DIN 48 (, ), CRD-C6/ASTM C939 () where required. Expansion Rate Durability in Service Complete and defect free filling of the void Positive expansion within 24 hrs (i.e. expansion was in the fresh mortar state) No volume loss unrestrained expansion Expansion measurements according to ASTM C and CRD C 63 standard (American) Advantages: SikaGrout -3 expands slower initially which allows more time for application and therefore expansion in place will give better results on site..% Test Results With application immediately after mixing conventional grout NEW SikaGrout -3 3 min.: NEW SikaGrout -3 3 min.: conventional grout.5% time [hr] With application after 3 min. delay Permeability Measurement High Freeze / Thaw De-icing Salt resistance (4 cycles +2 C / 2 C) High alkali resistance High sulphate resistance High density Low CO 2 and HO permeability Measurements correspond to the standards ASTM C (American), LPM BE II (Swiss), DIN-Standard 5245 (German) length change of cement matrix in Freeze Thaw / De-icing Salt Test 4 D C B Failure number of freeze/thaw de-icing salt cycles N with conventional grout with A E-modulus decrease ratio in % Shrinkage Behaviour Shrinkage Measurement Shrinkage <.2 mm/m (23 C/5% r.h.) No shrinkage cracks by the Bänziger Block test Effective non-shrink Shrinkage measurements according to DIN Standard 5245 (German) In all applications correct curing improves the results. length change [mm/m] Test Results Shrinkage is a function of a mixing ratio and curing conditions At 23 C and only 5% r.h.: At 2 C under water: At 2 C and 95% r.h.: E-modulus of Grout For a high load capacity and minimum deformation a high E-modulus is required. Elastic modulus shows how much stress (in theory) is necessary to produce % deformation. Example SikaGrout -3 has an E-modulus of approximately 37, N/mm 2. Under the same load a grout with an E-modulus of only 2, N/mm 2 would have almost doubled the deformation. Creep (irreversible deformation under load overtime) The hydration of a cementitious material is very important. With full hydration the creep can be minimied and therefore negated. Correct curing is therefore a prerequisite for success. SikaGrout -3 has minimal creep. stress 2 N/mm 2 SikaGrout -3 E-modulus 37, N/mm 2 elastic deformation.6%
4 Application Understanding Site Conditions Different Application Thicknesses 45 6 mm Use SikaGrout % by weight, 8 6 mm aggregate Workability Time Flow channel; 5 min. after mixing: flow distance 55 mm 3 min. after mixing: flow distance 45 mm 8 flow distance [mm] mm Use SikaGrout -38 (max. aggregate size 8 mm) 4 mm Use (max. aggregate size 3 mm) 3 2mm Use SikaGrout -3 (max. aggregate size mm) Measurements and limits of the flow channel according to the guidelines of EN standard (European Norm). 4 C 3 C 2 C 5 C EN Standard Limit Additional Note for Guidance The minimum application thickness should be 3 diameter ( ) of the maximum aggregate size in mm. The maximum application thickness/layer should be approx. diameter ( ) same as above in mm. Crack Prevention Bänziger Block (35 5 cm) For good adhesion adequate surface preparation of substrates is important. Flow Properties Bänziger Block for High Performance Grout No bleeding No segregation No air bubbles No delamination No shrinkage cracks even between sections of variable thickness All tests are carried out on the Bänziger Block (developed at Sika, Switzerland). Non SikaGrout Workability time (flow table spread) minimum 3 min. Slump loss < % after 3 min. (compared to min. value) e.g. FTS ( min.; strokes) = 3 mm and FTS (3 min.; strokes) > 27 mm SikaGrout -3 FTS ( min.; strokes) = 32 mm FTS ( min.; strokes) = 3 mm SikaGrout -38 FTS ( min.; strokes) = 25 mm Measurements correspond to the standards DIN 48 (German), ASTM C 23/C 827 and CRD-C 6 (American). flow table spread FTS (t, ) [mm] C C 22 C 3 C Application in larger Volumes In larger volume applications it is possible to achieve similar application and performance characteristics (workability time), flow properties and strength development using SikaGrout by the addition of 3 4% by weight of clean aggregate (4 8 and/or 8 6 mm). Comparison between and and aggregate 4 8 mm (35 weight %): Strength Development Flow Expansion unrestrained expansion 8 5 % % 9% 8% 7%.%.9%.8%.7%.6%.5% time [hr]
