7 Section 1 Logos Desktop Overview A dashboard or instrument panel on an automobile or airplane neatly houses vgauges, lights, switches, buttons, etc., all designed to be close at hand when you need them. One main window within Logos Bible Software houses files, guides, reports, tools, etc. Think of this window as the dashboard of your software. What you need to read and study the Bible is just a click away. The dashboard desktop consists of several components allowing you to quickly access numerous features: overview A B C d e A. Toolbar B. Menus C. Command Box D. Shortcuts Bar E. Synchronization Home. This newspaper like Home Page arranges blogs, excerpts from resources, Reading Plans, Prayer Lists, and more. (A) Toolbar Library. This customizable electronic bookshelf, housing all of your e-books, allows you to arrange, prioritize, and open resources. (B) Search. The one Search icon provides access to Basic, Bible, Clause, Morphology, and Syntax searching. (C) A b c 1
8 Logos Bible Software Training Manual: Volume 1 Menus DOCUMENTS Your own user created documents are created and opened here. Documents include: Bibliography. A list of citations which can easily be pasted into a paper. Clippings. A document containing index cards on which you can paste, for future use, excerpts from resources, the web, Word documents, etc. Handout. A document comprised of items related to your Bible lesson or sermon that can be distributed to your class or congregation (Windows only). Logos Desktop Overview Notes. A document archiving your Bible study research which can easily be accessed in the future. Passage List. A list of verses can be created and saved here. Prayer List. A customized prayer journal in which prayer requests and answers to prayer can be recorded. Reading Plan. A personalized, calendar based plan encouraging you to read the Bible or any resource in a systematic way. Sentence Diagram. A file with either a traditional line diagram or block diagram for any biblical passage can be created here. Syntax Search. A saved search query that can be opened in the Syntax Search dialog. Visual Filter. An overlay on Bibles and books that automatically highlights words, phrases, or morphological data. Word Find Puzzle. A customizable puzzle for any biblical passage in any Bible that can be saved for future use. Word List. A list of words or lemmas that can be used for a variety of reasons, including vocabulary cards and examining word count from a biblical text. GUIDES These customizable, electronic research assistants help you in original language study (even if you don t know Hebrew and Greek) as well as locating biblical insights from your library and the web. You can even create and save your own Guide Templates. 2
9 Section 1: Logos Desktop Overview The big 5 guides are: Passage Guide. This assistant locates, links, and lays out lots of information from your e-books and the web for any biblical passage. Exegetical Guide. Among other things, this original language tutor provides Hebrew and Greek definitions from your favorite dictionaries for the words in your biblical passage. Bible Word Study. This language advocate focuses on one word (English, Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, etc.) at a time, providing definitions, occurrences, syntactical data, and more. Sermon Starter Guide. This motivator jumpstarts your message preparation for a biblical text or theme by providing links to key verses, outlines, illustrations, and more. Topic Guide. When studying a subject, this research assistant searches for and arranges relevant information such as dictionary articles, family tree, maps, images, and more. TOOLS Numerous tools, available to help you study the Bible, organize your resources, and customize the system, are divided into the following categories: LIBRARY Collections. These personally defined groupings of books allow you to search just that Collection rather than all of your resources at once. Favorites. In addition to 9 Bookmarks, you can save unlimited links to locations and then organize them within folders. Highlighting. Mark up your resources with styles provided for you or create your own. History. This chronological list displays places you ve previously visited in your software. Personal Books. Transform your docx documents into Logos resources with this easy to use tool. Reading Lists. This search tool locates and displays prepared Reading Lists from topics.logos.com. 3

Access family trees, maps, images, and timelines for the people, places, things, and events in the Bible with this powerful dataset. Bible Sense Lexicon. Pinpoint the precise contextual meaning of a Hebrew or Greek noun with this language dataset. Timeline. View world and biblical events on this hyperlinked, searchable Timeline. SETTINGS Logos Desktop Overview Program Settings. Here you can customize your software by adjusting the text size, fonts, etc. PASSAGE assist you in analyzing a passage of Scripture: Copy Bible Verses. This dialog allows you to copy verses from any Bible into other applications such as Word and PowerPoint. Explorer. This mini Passage Guide links to relevant information as you re studying a biblical passage. Passage Analysis. Five separate components Compare Pericopes. From here you can see in parallel columns how your passage is included in pericopes from various Bibles. Word Tree. This interactive visual concordance allows you to see relationships between words in a passage. Morph River. The morphological information based on the original language of your passage is graphically depicted in this colorful tool. Cluster Graph. This plotted graph depicts the similarity of the wording of your passage among different Bibles. Version River. Colorful rivers illustrate the similarities and differences in the wording of your passage in various Bibles. 4

SOCIAL Community Notes. Share your and/or see others observations about a passage via FaithLife groups. LOOKUP Cited By. This Scripture reference index searches any portion of your library for all occurrences of a biblical passage. Information. Any layered information that is associated with the word on which the mouse pointer is resting will be displayed in this Information panel. Power Lookup. Automatically look up any cross references, hyperlinks, etc. in the active tab or selected text. Pronunciation. Greek words are listed and pronounced here. LAYOUTS From here you can select a tiled arrangement for the open panels as well as name any snapshot of the screen to open in the future. HELP The question mark icon identifies the Help menu. From here, you can access Logos help files and discover what version of the software you re currently running.
