3 Always read the operation and safety manual before operating any nail tool. ALWAYS wear approved EYE protection. ALWAYS wear approved HEARING protection. Eye and Hearing Protection Must: Eye protection must meet AS/NZS 1337: 1992 Standards Hearing protection AS/NZS 1270: 1999 Standards Fit the proposed task and working environment Provide adequate protection to the user Fit properly and comfortably Personal Protection Eye & Hearing Equipment must: be used in accordance with manufacturers instructions be checked daily for faults or defects be reported if lost or defective be stored or returned when not in use be used in all hazardous working conditions

4 Use only Paslode fasteners The tool and fasteners are a combined safety system Do not weaken or damage the tool housing by punching or engraving Never modify the tool Check the tension of nuts and bolts daily Keep the tool clean and lubricated Tools that have been rendered unserviceable must have a disabled tool tag attached. 5 Never connect a tool to a bottled gas supply (e.g, C0 2 or Oxygen). Q: Why? A: The oxygen and oil mixed inside the combustion chamber may ignite and explode the tool. B: CO 2 and oxygen can lower the temperature of the metal tool housing making it brittle. Subsequent impact may shatter the housing. Tool Safety features ORANGE trigger for contact firing SILVER trigger for sequential firing Sequential triggers for fasteners longer than 48mm are required by law Exemptions to use contact triggers are granted for specific industrial factories and applications 2. 6 3. Tool Preparation Safety Checks for Pneumatic Tools 1. Ensure that the safety probe moves freely 2. Ensure that the air line is not connected to the tool 3. Ensure that the lock out feature is working to avoid fasteners kicking back inside the tool magazine 4. Safe compressor operating pressure is 90 to 120 psi ALWAYS connect male tail piece to air tool to allow pressure to escape when disconnecting. Use ONLY quick release hose couplers with air tools. Safety Checks for Impulse Tools 1. Ensure that the battery is not inserted in the tool 2. Ensure that the fuel cell is not inserted in the tool 3. Ensure that the safety probe moves freely 4. Ensure that the lock out feature is working to avoid fasteners kicking back inside the tool magazine

7 Complete a visual inspection of all exterior bolts before operating the tool to ensure that there are no loose bolts. Before operating any tool the depth of drive must be adjusted to take into consideration the material that is being nailed. NEVER operate a malfunctioning tool Never operate a nail tool if parts are: Loose Damaged Broken Missing Correct loading of Pneumatic / Air Tools Correct loading of Impulse Tools 1. Put on eye and hearing protection. 2. Air Connected 3. Fasteners Loaded 1. Put on eye and hearing protection. 2. Battery Loaded 3. Fuel Cell Loaded 4. Fasteners Loaded

8 4.Safe Tool Operation Allow only qualified personnel to operate nailing tools Never engage in horseplay Keep your hands clear of the nose piece when operating the tool Keep hands clear of work area Fire bottom nail first, hand should be at lease 300mm away from tool Remove hand and fire top nail Note Hand Placement Skewed nails may exit the timber work piece unexpectedly and cause injury. To prevent injury: Do not drive fasteners into knots or on top of other fasteners Avoid defects in the work piece Operate the tool only when in contact with the work piece

9 Guard against tool recoil Keep hands, face and body clear of tool head to avoid recoil or crush injuries Kick back can be caused by hard wood or high air pressure ALWAYS treat nailing tools as loaded NEVER point the tool at yourself or others When clearing jams or removing fasteners, ALWAYS point the tool away from yourself and others NEVER load fasteners with the trigger or work contact element depressed NEVER remove or disable the work contact element Disconnect from air source before servicing, adjusting depth of drive, or clearing a jam ALWAYS remove fasteners, battery & fuel cell from tool before servicing, adjusting, or clearing a jam

10 5.Safe Environment Keep out of the reach of children Lock tools away after use Operate tool in well ventilated areas Exhaust fumes from Impulse tools contain Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide Check for concealed hazards such as gas or water piping and electrical cables before driving fasteners Be aware of work area hazards ALWAYS maintain secure and unobstructed footing when operating tools

11 Remove the fasteners, battery and fuel cell, when not in use Reduces fire hazard Reduces a dropping hazard when working overhead Battery Use Read all instructions before use Indoor use only Use Paslode charger only Do not short battery Battery is a sealed unit Do not store above 48 o C Do not incinerate Avoid damage to charger cord Always charge a NEW BATTERY for a minimum of 12 HOURS Battery contains nickel-cadmium
