3 Overview The H3C S9500E core routing switches (hereinafter referred to as the S9500E switches) are developed by Hangzhou H3C Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as H3C). They are new generation core routing switches designed for the core area of campus networks and Internet data centers (IDCs). The S9500E switches provide large-capacity, high-performance Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching services integrated with hardware IPv6, hardware MPLS, security, service analysis, and other intelligent features. The S9500E switches can serve as the basic network platform for the integrated services on campus networks and IDCs, and help integrate users' IT resources. Main Processing Units (MPUs) are the core of the S9500E switches and are used to: Calculate routes and maintain the forwarding table. Monitor Line Processing Units (LPUs) and switching fabric modules, and upgrade and reset their software. Provide Embedded Maintenance Subsystem (EMS) and manage the power supply. Support Fast Fault Detection and Restoration (FFDR). The S9500E switches support the following MPUs: LSR1SRP2B1: Applicable to the S9508E/S9508E-V/S9512E LSR1SRP2C1: Applicable to the S9508E/S9508E-V/S9512E LSR1SRP2B2: Applicable to the S9505E LSR1SRP2C2: Applicable to the S9505E LSR1SRP2D1: Applicable to all S9500E switches Key features Multi-engine design Dedicated control engine The device provides a strong CPU that supports fine-grained control of protocol packets and can easily process various protocol packets and control packets. Dedicated detection engine The device provides a FFDR CPU system with high reliability and performance. The CPU system is specially used for fast fault detection of the BFD. It cooperates with control plane protocols to deliver fast protection switchover and fast convergence. It completes fault detection within 50 ms to ensure service continuity. Dedicated maintenance engine The device uses an intelligent EMS CPU to implement intelligent power management and power on/off cards in sequence. When cards are powered on simultaneously, they bring less impact to the power supply, so that the system lifetime is improved, electromagnetic radiation and power consumption are reduced. 1

4 Environment-friendly design The S9500E switches use the intelligent EMS engine system to implement intelligent power management, power on cards in sequence, power off cards as needed, isolate faulty or idle cards, and reduce system consumption. When cards are powered on in sequence, they bring less impact to the power supply, so that the system lifetime is improved and electromagnetic radiation is reduced. The S9500E switches are compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standard. Flexible configurations and scalability You can configure each S9500E switch with one MPU, or two MPUs for active/standby switchover. Hot swapping MPUs of the S9500E switches are hot swappable. You can insert or remove MPUs (at least one MPU must be configured on the switch) without powering off the device, so that services on interface cards are not affected. 7 LED Status Description ALM (red) On The MPU is faulty. There are alarms. There are no alarms. Fourteen groups o f LPU status LEDs, numbered 0 to 13, are provided on the front panel to indicate the operating conditions of LPUs respectively. The CF card is present and performing read/write operations, and cannot be unplugged. The CF card is not present or offline, and is hot-pluggable. CAUTION: When the switch is starting up (before user view appears), do not plug in or unplug the CF card. When the CF card LED is steady on, do not unplug the CF card directly. To unplug the CF card, execute the umount command in user view and unplug the CF card after the CF card LED is off. 5

8 Ports Console port Using an RJ-45 connector, the console port can be connected to a background terminal for system debugging, configuration, maintenance, management, and host software loading. As a backup port for the console port, the AUX port can be c onnected to a background terminal or through a pair of modems to a remote device for system debu gging, maintenance, and management. 6

CF cards are widely used in various communication products. NOTE: H3C recommends that you use CF cards authorized by H3C. If other CF cards are used, reliability and compatibility cannot be ensured. An inserted CF card can be used only after you install and fasten the card cover. 7

Ports SMB coaxial clock interfaces provide input or output clock reference at Mbps (2.048 MHz). Two of them are input interfaces and two are output interfaces.
