CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF NELUMBO NUCIFERA SEED EXTRACTS Astrakhan State University, 1 Shaumyan sq., Astrakhan, (Russia), avelikorodov@mail.ru By extraction with 50% aqueous ethanol and subsequent removal of solvent at reduced pressure are received extracts from Nelumbo nucifera seed. Bu gas liquid chromatography method determines the contents of fatty acids from lipid fractions of an extract after their transformation into methyl ethers at processing diazomethane. It is investigated antioxidant activity of seed extracts lotus by lipid peroxidation method and on reduction of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrilhydrazyl free radical (DPPH) absorption at 517 nm. The total contents of phenols and flavonoids in extracts of Nelumbo nucifera seed are appreciated. Keywords: Nelumbo nucifera, seed, extracts, chemical composition, lipid extraction, fatty acids, methylation of fatty acids with diazomethane, gas liquid chromatography, extraction of phenolic compounds and flavonods, estimation of total phenols and flavonoids, antioxidant activity, lipid peroxidation, DPPH radical scavenging activity determination.
