9 ADDITIONAL WORLD WAR 1 CASUALTIES NOT ON WAR MEMORIALS FREDERICK HOWARTH Buried in Wheelock Heath Baptist Churchyard in a Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave with the following details: Frederick Howarth; th Battalion, King s Shropshire Light Infantry Died on 22 November 1918 aged 19 Son of Thomas and Hannah Wilkinson of 15 Holly Bush Row, Wheelock Heath, Sandbach Date Event 1899 Born 31/5/15 Passed fit after a medical examination, but gave his age as 19 years and 4 months. Enlisted at Macclesfield in the Cheshire Regiment, number A note on the form records Baptist. 26/6/15 Posted to the 7 th Battalion. Located at Macclesfield. 14/9/16 Posted to No. 4 Infantry Base Depot. Located in France. 25/9/16 Transferred to King s Shropshire Light Infantry, number /11/16 Wounded in action, France. 21/11/16 Posted back to the UK. Located at home. 13/6/17 A medical review awarded a pension of 22 shillings. He gave his d.o.b. as 31/1/ /7/17 Discharged in consequence of No longer physically fit for war. Medical exam records gun shot wound right upper arm; shrapnel wounds right leg, back and right chest wall. 6/11/17 Further medical review. 7/11/18 Further medical review. Record states (Arthopocdic?) treatment and report as to advisability of further treatment, or whether condition in final stages. 22/11/18 Died.
10 Summary for Frederick Howarth Born in 1899, probably illegimate, his mother Hannah married Thomas Wilkinson in 1903 and had three more sons. In 1915 he enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment at Macclesfield; his actual age was 16 but he declared it to be 19. He spent 15 months based at Macclesfield. In September 1916 he was posted to France and transferred to the King s Shropshire Light Infantry. In November 1916 he was seriously (ultimately fatally) wounded and sent home. In July 1917 he was discharged from the army as not fit for war. In November 1918 he died from his wounds. THOMAS NEWTON Buried in Wheelock Heath Baptist Churchyard in a Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave with the following details: T Newton: Cheshire Regiment died on 1 April 1921 Despite extensive searches the only other information that can be found is: Full name Thomas Newton. Parents; Thomas and Hannah Newton of Wheelock Heath, amongst their children is one Thomas age 25 in Researched by Colin Lythgoe; 11 Waterloo Road, Haslington with additional research and support by Pauline Ollier.
