20 Veteran A Veteran has been back from deployment in Iraq for 8 months. Veteran and his wife are not communicating except when fighting. They fight about everything. Veteran almost ran someone off the road but his wife screamed and he snapped out of it. Veteran has complained of headaches everyday and is very forgetful. Veteran s wife threatens to leave if veteran doesn t get help. Veteran s wife reports not trusting spouse and afraid to leave the kids with him. Financially they are struggling and having to borrow money from family and friends. Veteran does not get out of the house much and has had difficulties looking for a job. Veteran drinks to take the edge off and help him sleep at night. Veteran experienced traumatic events in country including several IEDs in close range one knocking him against a vehicle. Veteran was an Admin Sergeant in the ARNG but in Iraq drove a truck for convoys for another unit that he deployed with. At one point in the mission veteran had to help pick up dead bodies. Veteran tries not to think about the events that occurred there.
21 Veteran B Veteran returned from deployment a year ago. Veteran has had anger outbursts and was referred for counseling after loosing his driver s licenses from a DUI. Veteran is married and has had marital conflict even prior to his deployment. Veteran came home to find all of the money he sent home had been spent and his wife wanted out of the marriage. Veteran did not experience any traumatic events on deployment, however, he heard from other vets about traumatic events. Veteran has a history of drinking and using marijuana even before entering the military. Veteran reports drinking about 10 beers day but does not feel that is abusive because he can handle it. This is veterans second DUI and he has also been arrested for Public Intoxication prior to deployment. Veteran reports childhood abuse, being beat as a child but reports it doesn t affect him. Veteran does not feel he has any problems accept his wife and would not be in counseling had his unit not referred him. Veteran has a goal of going to school and becoming an MP and redeploying. Veteran reports feeling cheated that he did not experience combat while in Iraq.
