2 Surface: This design is created on a wood Heart Plaque 9 ½ x 11 (Viking ). Supplies: DecoArt Easy Float Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte Ultra Fine Point Black Sharpie Pen DecoArt Decoupage Medium Matte The following Americana Paints for this piece: Fawn Lamp Black Heritage Brick Warm White Uniform Blue Milk Chocolate Uniform Blue Burnt Umber Hauser Medium Green The following Loew-Cornell Brushes were used: #10/0 and #2 angular shader (Series 7400, 1 glaze/wash (Series 7500), La Corneille Golden Tallon #10/0 script liner, Maxine s oval mop (Series 270) Just a word about shading: If shading is a challenge for you, try using DecoArt Easy Float. Easy Float is a blending and floating medium for use with acrylic paints. It makes floating color easier for creating shading and highlighting effects on painting projects. Using an angled brush, dip the back in the medium and the tip in the paint. Brush back and forth on your palette until the paint blends slightly into the medium and then paint. You can also paint the medium around the edge of the item you want to shade and then proceed as usual with the Burnt Umber. Try both ways to see which works best for you!

3 A painter s tip: Use a stylus, toothpicks and the ends of paintbrushes to add dots to your painted design. You will have much more control over the shape and size than with a brush! Preparation: 1. Dust the plaque and then apply a light coat of Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte. 2. Allow the spray sealer to dry completely then sand using a brown paper sack. 3. Dust the plaque again and apply another coat of Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte. Allow the sealer to completely dry before proceeding with the next steps. 4. Paint the plaque, front and back, with Fawn. 5. Cut the cloth heart from your choice of homespun cloth and apply it to the wood heart using the Decoupage Medium. (Coat the back of the cloth and the surface of the wood heart with the Medium to insure good contact). Smooth the cloth heart with your fingers, making sure it is still centered on the wood heart. 6. Allow the decoupage medium to dry completely. 7. Make a glaze of Fawn and Easy Float mixed 1:1and apply to the fabric heart. Paint three coats, allowing to dry between each coat. 8. Shade around the cloth heart, inside and out, with Burnt Umber. 9. Adjust the pattern to fit and trace onto the surface. Pennies: Paint the pennies Lamp Black. Paint the stars Warm White and dot the centers with Heritage Brick. Line the stitching around the pennies with Warm White. Quilt: Paint the quilt frame Lamp Black and highlight with Warm White. Paint the quilt Warm White and shade with Burnt Umber. Use the following diagram to paint the quilt:

4 1. Thin Heritage Brick with water and paint section 1. Apply dots with full strength Heritage Brick. 2. Shade inside section 2 with Milk Chocolate. Line the pattern with Milk Chocolate. 3. Paint section 3 Hauser Medium Green and dry brush with a little Warm White. Alternated the lines with Warm White and Hauser Medium Green. 4. Paint section 4 Uniform Blue and dry brush with Warm White. Line the design with Warm White. 5. Paint section 5 Chocolate Brown and dry brush with Warm White. Line the design with Warm White. 6. Paint section 6 with Heritage Brick and dry brush with Warm White. Paint the heart Lamp Black and stitch the heart with Warm White. 7. Paint section 7 Hauser Medium Green. Line and dot the pattern with Lamp Black. 8. Shade around the quilt with Burnt Umber. Crow: Paint the crow Lamp Black. Line the wing and dot the eye with Warm White.

5 Sheep; Paint the sheep s body Warm White. Paint the head, ear, tail and legs Lamp Black. Dry brush the head with Warm White. Line the swirl for the eye with Warm White. Line the head, tail and legs with Warm White. Line the lettering with Lamp Black. (You may use the Black Sharpie Pen if that is easier for you. Outline the sheep and line the stitching with the Black Sharpie Pen. Saltbox House: Paint the house Uniform Blue and shade with Lamp Black. Paint the roof and chimneys Lamp Black and dry brush just a little with Warm White. Paint the windows Lamp Black and line with Warm White. Paint the door Heritage Brick and line and dot the doorknob with Warm White. Shade around the outside of the house, roof and chimneys with Burnt Umber. Line the house, roof and chimneys with Warm White. Line the smoke with Warm White. Shade under the quilt, sheep and saltbox house with Burnt Umber. Moon: Paint the moon Milk Chocolate. Highlight the inside of the moon with Warm White. Shade around the moon with Burnt Umber. Finishing Touches: Spatter the entire piece lightly with Lamp Black. Spray the entire piece with Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte.
