1 The system For tunnel applications, the remote management of individual light points can be made using a direct and dedicated data communication via RS-485 serial line. It s possible to communicate with every single light point, monitor the operation in its entirety and determine the reduction or the increase of the flow according to specific needs. It s possible to read the operating status, detect any abnormal operation, record the instantaneous power consumption. Each device is provided with an integrated communication cable and a panel connector for connection to the chain of equipment (typically along the pipe fixing vaulted gallery). The fixtures can be controlled by PLC with RS-485 port installed on the control panel inside the cabin or into the bypass. In this way the lighting can be integrated with other systems in the field, traffic sensors, environmental sensors, external alarms, allowing you to regulate the flow of light in several different conditions. In case of communication failure each apparatus regulates itself to the default power to guarantee maximum safety on the road. 2 Accessories and connections The connection is typically conducted in a chain as shown in the picture below. The PLC is connected directly to the nearest unit. The unit will further be equipped with a line terminator accessory, used to avoid reflections of the signal along the communication cable. Mapping and monitoring Each device can be individually monitored, if properly identified. The identification consists in assigning a unique address from 1 to 247. If you are asked to monitor point to point, in the same RS-485 channel cannot be more than 247 devices; if you only want to issue commands for general all apparatus (broadcast mode, with address 0) there are no limits to install, but those due to the length of the communication line. Auto-recovery of luminous flux The device can be configured in a particular mode Auto recovery of luminous flux, whereby, in case of nocommunication on the dimming of the flow from the PLC, is automatically reset to the default stream on the condition of security lighting on the road. Slave address If not specified ID address is assigned equal to 255. Modbus Connection cable is composed by three signal wires and a shield. The pin out is : Pin out Note BLUE (with white stripes) : A(+) WHITE (with blue stripes): B(-) BLACK: GND BLACK with sheath: SHIELD A wrong writing on the holding registers (RESERVED and NOT RESERVED) can achieve a complete loosing of the communication to luminaires.
