4 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives 4 To this technical manual The technical manual describes the exchange of a faulty stepper motor drive. For that purpose all required steps and adjustments are illustrated in this manual.

6 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives 6 2 General information 2.1 Stepper motor drives The SCHIPS company fits the machines with different stepper motor drives according to the requirements: 2.2 Important operation directions Adjust the DIP switch 1 of stepper motor drive to ON. 10 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives 10 d) Remove the faulty stepper motor drive Loose the fastening screw Note the DIP switch position no. 3 OFF = Half step ON = Full step Unplug the sub D-plug of motor drive on the back side of CB40-C. The module switch must switched on during the operation! Do not confuse with the main switch! Circlip for plug * EL * Only valid for the machines, which have been delivered since autumn 2002.

12 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives Adjustment of no-load and operating current The potentiometers for adjusting the no-load and operating current depend on the used stepper motor drive type. The correct adjustment for the motor used, is illustrated in the chapter 4.4 Stepper motor types and current adjustments page 13. Set to the position R1 and A1 respectively, by turning the potentiometer carefully to the left stop position. 14 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives 14 5 Fitting of the new stepper motor drive 5.1 Apply the heat-conducting paste to the new motor drive Apply evenly the heatconducting paste to the fitting side of the heat sink (thin coat) 5.2 Fitting of the new motor drive into the casing Fit the new motor drive into the casing. Connect both motor drive plugs into the CB40-C module. Connect the power supply plug into the CB40-C module. Connect the ventilating fan plug. 15 Technical manual / Stepper motor drives 15 6 Fault findings and corrective measures Problem Possible cause Corrective measures The motor does not work The stepper motor rotates only in one sense Stepper motor is very hot The stepper motor loses steps, jams sometimes The stepper motor rotates too fast The stepper motor rotates too slowly The motor drive gets too hot, will be faulty No connection of the motor drive with the CB40-C. No connection of the motor with the motor drive (Check in the hardware test under SYSTEM, F5 and F4 The corresponding module is not addressed correctly or not initialised. Faulty motor drive or motor The DIP switch 2 on the corresponding motor drive is at the ON position. No-load and / or operating current adjusted too highly. DIP switch 1 on position OFF Operating current adjusted too highly or too low. One or several modules are switched off (switch on the back side), respectively the mains cable is plugged out. Faulty feed of a module. Faulty motor drive. Stepper motor drive adjusted to full step (DIP switch 3 to ON) Stepper motor drive adjusted to half step (DIP switch 3 to OFF) Faulty ventilating van in the CB40-C, failure of cooling system. Make connection. Check and correct. Exchange faulty part Adjust the DIP switch 2 to the position OFF. Check and correct both values. Adjust the DIP switch 1 to the position ON. Check and correct the value of operating current. Correct the fault. Exchange the faulty feed. Exchange motor drive. Adjust the stepper motor drive to half step (DIP switch 3 to OFF). Adjust the stepper motor drive to full step (DIP switch 3 to ON). Replace ventilating van.
