1 Janina Frye Selected Works
2 Relationship between subject and object I take an interest in the relationship between subject and object. How humans deal with the things that surround them and how the relationship between subject and object has been changed by the development of the digital world, forms the core of my artistic practice. Things from everyday life play a big role; to investigate them I try to see them from different perspectives and evoke new cross connections through a playful way of working. In the body of my work, I re-contextualize objects, put them in new settings and arrange them in different ways. By placing an object outside it s original context, I can get a more speci c view on them and reflect. Through this method of working, I frequently come upon detours which are illogical and sometimes even idiotic. I strive to create impossible situations, to bring my research on things on a speculative realm, which leads to a boundless thinking. I do not make a difference between things that exists in the real world and things that exists in our minds, as they affect each other. As Graham Harman puts it, things that exist in our mind are equally objects as things that exist physically.

30 The attempt to relieve the chair of its burden was unexpected, 2014 Chair with tabletop and yellow color
31 The attempt to relieve the chair of its burden was unexpected: I assumed that a chair must always stand and must be able to carry a person. That s why I replaced the seat of the chair with a table top, on the assumption that tilts the chair to the side because the plate will be much too heavy and too big for it. Then it may slide to the side and will no longer be usable. But the chair has shown me otherwise. It can stand with a much too large tabletop as a seat, 2014 Chair with tabletop and yellow color
