We were the first company in the world to offer a complete ATEX certified product range for hazardous areas years ahead of the official requirement. And we are still a trailblazer today with our full range of SIL certified control and measurement products. Safety is a key aspect of our technology and design: our high voltage motors, for example, go through extensive explosive gas testing of both the stator and rotor before we release them to market. Our global switchgear range is fully arc-proof, being extensively tested and qualified per IEC for internal arc faults. 5 Fast support from a global service network Preventive maintenance during scheduled stoppages keeps equipment running and ensures downtime is minimized. If an unexpected breakdown does occur, however, it s good to know that support is available fast and virtually anywhere in the world. We have built a global service network, with over 200 service shops spread around the world. That means we are never far away, and our service staff are ready to help at short notice. Maintenance and servicing are streamlined by the easy maintainability of our products. The equipment we supply is designed and built so that all critical components can be replaced quickly and safely. Energy efficiency cuts costs and reduces emissions Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important across all areas of industry. We have been supplying energy efficient solutions such as transformers, motors and variable speed drives (VSDs) for many years, and we are at the forefront in ensuring that our products meet the latest efficiency standards and requirements. In many applications big cuts in energy consumption and CO 2 emissions can be achieved by using VSDs to control efficient motors. We are a leading manufacturer of VSDs and the worldwide installed base of ABB VSDs contributes to more than 190 terawatt hours of energy savings per year. This corresponds to the output of about 45 coal-fired power plants. Another example is EcoDry, our ultra efficient dry-type transformer technology, which can cut transformer losses by up to 70%. A single 1,000 kva EcoDry transformer operated at full load can deliver annual electricity savings of 33,000 kwh equivalent to the power consumption of ten regular households. We also perform energy appraisals a service developed in direct response to requests from our customers which can reveal the energy saving potential in your facility.
