2 Actuators and control systems Velan ABV manufactures actuators as part of our valve control system packages, which are specifically designed to operate quarter-turn valves (i.e., ball, butterfly, and plug valves) suitable for on-off and modulating service. Velan ABV actuators have their own trademark, MOSS. Velan ABV s MOSS actuators have a scotch yoke modular-type construction, wich means that the actuator s components can be positioned with different actuators configurations. The yoke mechanism is available with two different design configurations (symmetric or canted) and in different standard sizes. The mechanism is fully contained in a housing designed for a minimum of 00,000 actuations and tested against full differential pressure. According to specific needs, a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, and if necessary, a spring cartridge for emergency operations (on spring-return actuators), can be connected to the left or to the right side of the housing. The actuator is designed for heavy-duty service and for maximum reliability. The spring container is designed considering the maximum safety criteria to avoid any risk during assembly and during work. Standard and compact actuators can be installed parallel or perpendicular with regards to the flow line, and in a vertical, horizontal, or oblique plane. The ambient temperature range will be from -8 F (-0 C) up to 8 F (8 C). On request, all actuators can be provided with a suitable manual override, consisting of a handwheel or a hydraulic handpump for emergency or local operation. Velan ABV can also develop different types of actuators, (e.g., linear actuators) depending on specific customer needs. 6 Gas over oil systems: Series GHD Velan ABV gas over oil syste ms are used to automate valves located in remote locations subject to severe climatic conditions, where no low pressure instrument air or high pressure hydraulic supply line are available. The system can control the valve fully automatically using the pressurized gas from the pipeline pressure. The design and the selected materials ensure optimal performances providing long service with a minimum of maintenance. Normally the pipeline fluid does not come in contact with the cylinder actuator but it pressurizes the hydraulic oil inside the two gas over oil tanks, one for the opening operation and one for the closing one. In case the line fluids would be potential hazardous, the system will protect the line using a clean and safe hydraulic fluid as a oil barrier, contributing also on lubricate the cylinder during the long stand-still period. Sandard features Suitable for very high pressure working conditions, variable from location to location, not exceeding 0 barg. Zero leakage between piston and rod seals. Seal material suitable for several type of pipeline fluids. Material according to NACE for sour applications. All system are provided with hydraulic manual override for emergency operation. Pneumatic line break control: Based on the measurement of the rate of pressure drop of the pipeline. Emergency shut down control: Defining a minimum and/or maximum set pressure point at which the valve shall be closed Emergency storage tank: Useful to operate the valve in case of pipeline failure, generally sized for / single stroke at maximum rated of differential pressure.
