1 Frequently Asked Question WGS / WGS What is the different between WGS and WGS ? Both PLANET WGS and WGS switches are Layer 3 Managed Gigabit switches with same software features and configuration interfaces. The major different between the two switches is the Gigabit Ethernet interface: The WGS is equipped with 24-Port 10/100/1000Mbps interfaces and 4 shared combo Hot-Swappable SFP slots The WGS has 24 Hot-Swappable Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Gigabit slots and 4 shared 10/100/1000Mbps copper interface. WGS WGS Interface 10/100/1000T Copper 24 4 Mini-GBIC Fiber 4 24 Layer 3 Routing Protocol Layer 4 features Management IP Routing, Multicast Routing Policy-Based QoS, L2/L4 Access Control List Console, Web, SNMPv3, SSH, SSL The 24 SFP/Mini-GBIC slots of WGS compatible with 1000Base-SX / LX and WDM SFP fiber-optic modules. The data transmission distance can be extended from 550 meters (Multi-Mode fiber) up to above 10/50/70/120 km (Single-Mode fiber or WDM fiber). What Mini-GBIC modules are available for the SFP slots of WGS ? Does PLANET 100Base-FX SFP modules also compatible? 1. The 24 SFP slots of WGS are only compatible with 1000Base-SX/LX and WDM SFP fiber-optical modules. The following PLANET Gigabit SFP transceivers are available for WGS : MGB-GT MGB-SX MGB-LX MGB-L30 MGB-L50 MGB-L70 MGB-L120 MGB-LA10 SFP-Port 1000Base-T Module SFP-Port 1000Base-SX mini-gbic module SFP-Port 1000Base-LX mini-gbic module SFP-Port 1000Base-LX mini-gbic module-30km SFP-Port 1000Base-LX mini-gbic module-50km SFP-Port 1000Base-LX mini-gbic module-70km SFP-Port 1000Base-LX mini-gbic module-120km SFP-Port 1000Base-LX (WDM,TX:1310nm) mini-gbic

Due to the hardware specification, the SFP slots of WGS are not compatible with 100Base-FX Mini-GBIC module. How to configure the Management IP Address of WGS / series Layer 3 Switches under Command Line mode? To check the current IP address or modify a new IP address for the switch, please use the procedures as follow: Show the current IP address 1. On Routing> prompt, enter show network. 2. The screen displays the current IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway.
3 Configure IP address 3. On Routing> prompt, type enable to enter the Privileged Exec Mode. 4. A Password required message prompt. For the first time login, press Enter button. (With the default setting, the enable password is empty.) 5. On Routing# prompt, enter the following command and press <Enter>. If the IP is successfully configured, the switch will apply the new IP address setting immediately. You can access the web interface of WGS3-2840/24000 through the new IP address.
4 How to configure the VLAN Routing Interface s IP Address of WGS / series Layer 3 Switches under Command Line mode? For these series of Managed Layer 3 switches, it is suggest configuring the VLAN routing interface under console mode, and also to avoid once the VLAN Routing interface is conflict to current network management interface that cause the remote IP management stop respond. Follow these instructions, which assign an IP address to a normal routed VLAN. Here are the configuration steps. (Routing) # vlan database (Routing) (Vlan) # vlan routing 2 (Routing) (Vlan) # exit (Routing) # show ip vlan MAC Address used by Routing VLANs: 00:30:4F:24:00:A3 Logical VLAN ID Interface IP Address Subnet Mask / (Routing) # config (Routing) (Config)# ip routing (Routing) (Config)# interface 2/1 (Routing) (interface 2/1)# routing (Routing) (interface 2/1)# ip address The example uses as the switch IP address. Check if the IP address is created: (Routing) # show ip vlan MAC Address used by Routing VLANs: 00:30:4F:24:00:A3 Logical VLAN ID Interface IP Address Subnet Mask / NOTE: 2/1 virtual interface is created when vlan routing 2 command is executed and the switch is in factory default state. Put your own IP address in the last command.
