2 Term 1 Written Exam 100% Term 2/3 Practical Assessment 30% Written Exam 70% Homework Homework must be brought to class on the following Home Economics day for full marks to be awarded. If homework is late by ONE day overall marks/grades will be reduced. After ONE WEEK the work will not be assessed. Special circumstances such as illness will be taken into account.

6 RULES FOR THE HOME ECONOMICS ROOM 1. Always walk, do not run 2. Leave school bags neatly outside the door. 3. Wipe up spilt liquids at once. 4. Carry sharp knives downwards. 5. Saucepan handles face inwards. 6. Electrical appliances must be put away clean. 7. All equipment must be put away clean. 8. All equipment must be put away in the correct place. 9. All breakages must be reported to the teacher and cleared up properly. 10. Table tops must not be marked with ink or pencil. 11. Chopping boards must be used for all cutting and chopping. 12. Pot stands must be used for hot pans. BEFORE COOKING YOU: * Always wear an apron. * Remove blazer and pullover. * Tie back long hair. * Roll up sleeves. * Wash hands.

8 Getting ready for Home Economics When I come to class there are things I must always remember because they may be dangerous and not hygienic. 1. I must wash and my hands thoroughly. 2. 9 Safety in the Home Economics room A Law called the Health and Safety at Work Act requires your teacher to make and enforce rules to keep you safe while you are in the Home Economics room. The Home Economics room This room is different from other classrooms because we use dangerous equipment, we also use electrical appliances and we work with gas and all of these are potential dangers, so extreme care must be taken at all times. Your teacher will explain the rules for your particular room. Pupils must wear appropriate protective clothing and shoes. Why do you think this is so?
