In an effort to support our hospital clients efforts to have the best and brightest emergency physicians on their medical staffs, we sponsor the NES Health Emergency Physicians in Training Stipend Program. Essentially, you receive a monthly stipend while you are in training and, in exchange, we ask that you work at one of our emergency departments for two years after you complete your training program. The NES Health Emergency Physicians in Training Stipend Program is competitive, but the application process is easy. NES Health developed its Emergency Physicians in Training Stipend Program to financially assist the best emergency medicine residents and fellows in the nation while they are still in training. An Emergency Medicine residency or fellowship is hard, but the Emergency Physicians in Training Stipend Program can make it seem easier. Our monthly stipend makes a big difference. 5 What Is the Emergency Physicians In Training Stipend Program? Applying is Easy Stipend Program Highlights Monthly Stipend Amounts Range From $1,000-$2,000 It s very easy to find a Home with NES Health, so apply now for a secure, productive future. Paul Brizendine, M.D., FACEP Regional Medical Director Must be a full-time resident or fellow in the last 1-2 years of your program, with written recommendations from your director. Stipend financial assistance is granted on a monthly basis while a physician is still training in their residency or fellowship. Stipends are granted to physicians in the last year or two of their training programs for periods of months. Stipend funds are taxable and can be used for anything. Stipend financial assistance is not dependent on demonstrating financial need. Stipend financial assistance is fully forgiven after working for two years on the emergency physician staff of an NES Health contracted hospital. The Stipend Program is intended to link residents and fellows to NES Health in general and has flexibility as to where you are on staff. 6 F A Q s Be willing to relocate to an NES Health ED site to work. During stipend period: Complete your EM training program. Provide periodic attestation of good standing in your EM program. After program completion: Work full time on the ED medical staff at an NES Health contracted hospital for 2 years. Will owe back any monies not yet forgiven is there is a material breach or we are unable to agree upon the ED to be served within 90 days after program completion. What s in it for me? You will enjoy these benefits: Get a monthly stipend of $1,000-$2,000 electronically deposited into your bank account for months, as long as you meet the terms of the program. Have all our financial assistance forgiven by working on the EP staff at one of NES Health s hospitals for at least two (2) years after you complete your training program. You remain eligible for signing and productivity bonuses offered to other physicians at the hospital where you will practice. What are my responsibilities? Application eligibility: Enrolled full time in training. Written recommendations from program and schools. Free of other contractual obligations requiring a service commitment after training completion. 7 What is the application process and timeline? Application timeline: Applications from residents and fellows may be made at any time of the year. Application process: Contact Ruth Ann Sheets Coordinator, NES Health Stipend Program at , ext. 275 Complete application packet provided. Return completed packet to Stipend Program Coordinator. Review and approval process: Completed packet is sent to the NES Health Stipend Program Selection Committee for review. Committee notifies applicants of stipend decisions. If approved, a stipend contract is offered to each successful candidate. Resident or fellow signs the stipend contract and returns it to the Stipend Program Coordinator. NES Health sets up electronic direct deposit processing for all stipends. The monthly payment date is specified in the terms of each contract. Does NES Health tell me where I have to practice? Since NES Health staffs and manages EDs at hospitals nationwide, stipend recipients will have an opportunity to practice at some of the most unique and interesting hospitals. At every ED we staff, our onsite medical director makes the final hiring decisions for their clinical teams, after reviewing candidate credentials and conducting interviews. Is the stipend taxable? Yes. NES Health will provide you with a Form 1099 each year. It is your responsibility to withhold and pay any taxes that are due. Will I be employed by NES Health after my training? No. You will work for us as an independent contractor physician, as do all other emergency physicians who work for us at our client hospitals. We believe that independent contractor status is preferable to being employed, as it offers
