1 SITUATION REPORTS IN INDIA-1 30 th July, 2015 SITUATION IN INDIA: Incessant rainfall in the states of Gujarat and Odisha has created havoc to the normal life of the people. In Howrah district of West Bengal, dust storm accompanied by heavy rainfall has left 200 people homeless. Below is information in detailed. 1. Floods Situation in Gujarat 30 th July, 2015 A. SITUATION REPORT : Contineous rainfall during 26 th to 29 th July, 2015 in north Gujarat taking the total death toll in the state reach to 27 as on today. The north Gujarat ( Banas river) observed first flood in last 25 years. This area is semi-arid and deserts so hardly any preparedness for flood. Banaskantha, Patan and Mehsana districts are the worst-affected, besides Kutch. Many parts of Banaskantha district were cut off from the mainland and power supply was disrupted in many areas also. RESPONSE FROM GOVERNMENT AND HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES: Government Response: Apart from Army and IAF rescue by air The NDRF teams, with rubber boats, have been deployed at various flood-affected parts of the state, like Suigam, Deesa,Tharad of Banaskantha. Local youth groups and community groups are also helping in the rescue. Chief Minister Anandi Patel is touring Mehsana to take stock of the situation. Union Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary said the Centre is keeping a close watch on flood-like situation in Gujarat and will provide all the necessary help to the state for relief and rescue work. Humanitarians Response: According to the local IAG member from north Gujarat, western part of Banaskantha region ( Dhanera, Lakahani, Tharad, Vav and Sui gam blocks) are worst affected. According him collapse of kucha houses and death of animals will be in higher numbers. Internal roads (village and block connectivity) are badly damaged caused reaching to the affected by roads. Recue agencies are using helicopters and boats for recuse. Defunct of electricity and tele communication in the areas reported since last two to three days. At present the need is to reach up the affected area and villages for the rescue. Inter-Agency Groups-Gujarat is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with district officials of Banaskantha, Patan and Tehsildars (Taluka level Mamlatdars) for the first hand information and update of affected area. Floods Situation in Odisha 29 th July, 2015 Two persons were killed, 2.4 lakh people affected and thousands of acres of agricultural land inundated due to heavy rainfall under the influence of the cyclonic system over North-West Bay of Bengal occurred during 27 th - 28 th of July 2015 in the northern part of the State as well as in Jharkhand, floods have been experienced in Baitarani, Budhabalang and Subarnarekha rivers. The depression induced heavy rainfall caused floods in Odisha's five districts prompting the state government to launch rescue and relief operations. Source: Inter Agency Groups (IAGs)- Odisha B. RESPONSE FROM GOVERNMENT AND HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES: Government Response: 4 ODRAF units and one NDRF unit has been deployed in the affected district to undertake rescue operation wherever necessary and assist the administration in relief activities. One additional ODRAF unit is being rushed to Balasore district. One unit has been kept in standby at Cuttack. The details of deployment are given below: ODRAF Cuttack unit deployed in Jajpur

4 One unit of ODRAF and one unit of NDRF deployed in Balasore district. One Additional ODRAF unit is being moved to Balasore district. ODRAF Rourkela unit deputed to Keonjhar (Anandpur) ODRAF Jharasuguda unit kept stand by at Cuttack One ODRAF team has been deployed in Badasahi Block of Mayurbhanj district. The Fire service units in the districts of Jajpur, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts have been mobilised with 42 boats, other equipment and manpower to undertake search & rescue operations, wherever necessary. Fire service personnel have conducted flood rescue in Jajpur district and rescued 9 persons to safety at Motangapal under Korei Block on As many as 90 power boats of State Port Engineering Organisation under the Special Relief Commissioner have been deployed in these districts. Hon ble Chief Minister reviewed the flood situation in a high level meeting which is attended by Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department and Special Relief Commissioner on 29 th July, Humanitarians Response: Inter-Agency Groups-Odisha is closely monitoring the situation. 5 3. Storm and Heavy Rainfall in West Bengal 29 th July, 2015 A. SITUATION REPORT MUMBAI: Over 200 houses were damaged, scores of people were rendered homeless and nine persons were injured as storms lashed over three districts of West Bengal on 29 th July, 2015 accompanied by heavy rainfall. While around hundred houses were damaged in Howrah district, as many huts were affected in North 24 Parganas district while an unspecified number of kuchcha houses were damaged in Nadia district Source: Inter Agency Groups (IAGs) West Bengal and Media B. IMPACT OF THE SITUATION: 80 houses were damaged, destroyed 20 others and injured nine persons of whom the condition of two was stated to be serious. In North 24 Parganas district, over 100 huts were damaged in four wards of Habra Municipality and train services in Sealdah-Bangaon section was also affected as uprooted trees fell on tracks during the storm, Food Minister and local MLA Jyotipriya Mullick said. An unspecified number of houses were damaged at Nagar Ukhra under Haringhata police station in Nadia district in a storm this morning, SDO (Kalyani) Swapan Kumar Kundu said. Source: Media C. RESPONSE FROM GOVERNMENT AND HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES: Government Response: The local panchayat has send tarpaulin sheets and dry foods to the village and cooked food is being arranged as on 29 th July, The homeless people have taken shelter in an under-construction hostel and local factories, the panchayat official said.
