TUI PARK KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION Session Times: Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8.45am to 2.45pm Teachers Jane, Sue, Cyndy, Pam, Anne and Helen. Office Administrator Catherine Contact details

Dear We are confirming that is starting kindergarten on. Days enrolled for: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday What to bring to kindergarten on the first day Filled Civil defence box (see back page) One box of tissues. (1 per term please) What to bring to kindergarten everyday Small named water bottle. A named lunchbox with school type morning tea and lunch. Small named backpack containing at least one change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet clothing. (Several changes if your child enjoys water or messy play.) Weather and play appropriate clothing i.e. Old Clothes, Sunhat, jacket, gumboots (some of our activities encourage or involve wet and messy play). What you need to know when you start at Tui Park MOE National Student Numbers Requirement The Ministry of Education requires all children to bring in their birth certificate or passport on enrolment to any early childhood service to allocate them a National Student Number which will be used throughout their schooling. Please bring one of these forms of identification with you when you fill in your child s enrolment information before they start. Please also bring their immunisation certificate. Signing In/Out The signing in/out sheet is located near the entrance to the kindergarten. Children are required to be signed both in and out

by the person dropping them off at and picking them up from kindergarten. This provides key safety information. Attending Kindergarten It is really important that your child attends kindergarten for the enrolled hours and days to best get the full advantage of the many educational opportunities available. To gain maximum funding for our kindergarten we would appreciate children arriving before 9 am and leaving within the last 15 minutes of session. Please see a teacher if you have unavoidable reasons for your child not regularly attending enrolled hours. Absent from Kindergarten and Managing Sickness We would appreciate it if you could let us know when and why your child is going to be absent from kindergarten. There are times we may ask for children to stay away from kindergarten for a period of time after their symptoms have cleared (for example gastro illnesses). Settling Children There are several things you can do to help your child prepare for kindergarten. We recommend you visit the kindergarten and spend time familiarizing your child with, and talk about, the environment and teachers. Please discuss your child s needs with a teacher. Each child is unique and we will work to suit your child. We welcome phone calls at any time. Food Children need to bring a clearly named lunch box with enough food for morning tea and lunch. Children are also encouraged to have another snack from their lunchbox around 2pm. The kai table is available throughout the session so children can sit and eat whenever they are hungry. Also children who didn t have/finish breakfast can come in and start the day here with something to eat at the kai table (you are welcome to bring along toast). At 12pm we all sit together to eat lunch. Please only provide water in a clearly named drink bottle. Children will be encouraged to drink regularly. Please ensure your child can open and close their drink bottle, lunch box and containers by themselves and include spoons where appropriate.

Rest There is a quiet area where children can rest. Please see a teacher if your child requires a rest. Refer to the Sleep Procedure in the Tui Park Management Plan. Toilet Routines Please let a teacher know if your child needs support with toileting or is in nappies/pull ups. Teachers support children to toilet during the morning and after lunch. Children in nappies are changed after lunch and at other times if needed. Refer to the Changing, Toileting and Bathing Children Procedure in the Tui Park Management Plan. Profile Books Your child will have a profile book for the documentation of their significant learning throughout their time at kindergarten. This profile book will include multiple teachers perspectives as well as your child s voice. We encourage you and your whanau to contribute to the profile book. This can include adding feedback to the learning stories and/or other information you want to share. Encouraging Independence We encourage all children at kindergarten to be independent and look after their own belongings. Please support this by encouraging your child to hang up their own bag, be responsible for and locate their own lunch box, drink bottle, shoes and clothing; and dress themselves. Changing hours If you wish to change your hours at kindergarten please let a teacher know and we will accommodate your requests as soon as possible. Please note that we do require a minimum of two weeks notice to decrease hours or withdraw children. Whānau Contribution & Payment of Fees Our preferred method of payment for both is by automatic payment or internet banking to our head office. Please see a teacher if you wish to pay by either of these methods. Payment can also be made at kindergarten. Whānau Contribution: From August 2011 there is a 50 cent voluntary contribution per hour for the 20 hours ECE funding. This is a voluntary contribution but full or part payment will go a long way to helping

us maintain our high quality kindergarten. Our association will send whanau contribution notices by once a term. Payment of Fees: Children who are attending kindergarten for more than 20 hours per week or are using some or all of their 20 hours with another early childhood provider will be billed $4.00 per hour for time enrolled at kindergarten. Excursions Children could be taken on short walks near and around the kindergarten. Parents are asked for permission for short walks during enrolment. As part of the learning programme, children may be taken on longer excursions. Your permission will be required on each occasion. Please read the Wellington Kindergartens excursion policy for more information. Civil Defence Box We require every child to have their own labelled civil defence food kit in an ice cream container. This kit will be your child s food source in the event of an emergency. Please ensure that the container has lots of non perishable food that your child loves. Please ensure that the food you put in has a reasonable life span with an expiry date after your child turns 5 so it will last their whole kindergarten life. Please do not put anything in the container that needs to be heated or requires water (noodles) or any preparation. Please limit the contents to one ice cream container and provide on your child s first day at kindergarten. Suggested contents to be stored in the container are: Muesli/breakfast bars; Box of raisins or other dried fruit; Individual serves of crackers and or biscuits; Individual serves of fruit, jelly, rice pudding; Small supply of lollies Sun smart In terms one and four the children must wear sunhats outside. We ask that parents apply sun block to children prior to kindergarten. Lost Property We have 2 black bins that clothing from the day is put into. Lost property is in the children s bag area in the containers that are labelled with the week days. Unclaimed clothing is donated to charity at the end of each term. Please check regularly.

Fundraising Our kindergarten thrives with the support of parents and whānau. Initiatives or events organized by our kindergarten whānau provide funds which go toward making our kindergarten a rich and engaging learning environment. Your participation is central to making fundraising efforts a success. How else can you support the kindergarten? From time to time we will request parent help. Please refer to the whānau of Tui Park notice board or the daily whiteboard. Our Kindergarten Community Along with engaging with us about your child s learning we invite you to become involved in our kindergarten community. You are welcome to stay during our sessions and spend time with the children. Community Partnerships Currently Ear, Hearing and Vision screening and Plunket s B4 School Check are held at the kindergarten. We have a relationship with the Tawa/Linden schools and state kindergartens. We work with other agencies and organisations as required. Policies and Procedures We work in accordance with strict Ministry of Education Early Childhood Education Regulations. We have a copy of the Wellington Region Free Kindergarten Association policy booklet. We have procedures that are specific to our kindergarten. You are welcome to view these at anytime. They are located in the parent library. Enjoy your time at kindergarten If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to call us. We look forward to seeing you and your child at Tui Park Kindergarten soon. From your teaching team
