5 March Monday: Rough Draft of Movie/Restaurant Review is due. Tuesday: Computer Lab/Final Drafts of Movie/Restaurant Review. English Two Movie Assignment You are a staff writer for the Whitehall Chronicle. Your editor (boss) wants you to write an article for Valentine s Day Weekend. You are going to review the two movies that are playing at Whitehall s theatre. They are: The Revolt of Mother and Who am I this Time? If you were only here for ONE of the movies, you will review ONE of the movies and be excused for the other one. On the back of your assignment you MUST state the exact date of your absence, and I will check it. If you do not do not let me know of your absence, your assignment will be marked down accordingly. You are writing with the purpose of suggesting a couple of options for a great date. Keep in mind what kind of couples might like The Revolt of Mother and what kind of couples might like Who am I this Time as a romantic movie. Your article will have a catchy title, and you will state that it is written by you. Along with reviewing the movies, you are also going to review two local restaurants in Whitehall or within 20 miles of Whitehall (that area would include Muskegon). I want you to get into your role as a newspaper writer, and write a catchy introduction that makes people want to read your entire article. A good movie review consists of a very brief summary of the movie that does not ruin it for people who have not seen it. It might describe characters or briefly mention the dilemmas (conflicts) those characters are facing. You might suggest what type of person would like this movie. Is there any other movie like this movie? Is there a certain actor or actress people might like in this movie? These are some of the questions you can answer in a good movie review. A good restaurant review will mention any specialty dishes that the restaurant makes. What type of food do they serve? About how much money will you need to have a good meal at this restaurant? Make sure you capitalize the name of the restaurant and spell it correctly. Does the restaurant have a nice inside décor? Is there a nice view? Is there entertainment at the restaurant? These are some of the questions you can answer in a good restaurant review. The format of this assignment is to include the two movie reviews and two restaurant reviews into ONE article. The article should flow well. Really talk to your readers and advise them. You are the expert here, and they need the knowledge you are going to give them. A good conclusion for this paper would be to end with a couple of nice thoughts about Valentine s Day in general and/or you could wish your readers a good time on their dates.

Candy cannot even have the ultimate ownership over the fate of his dog, and George chooses the ultimate fate for Lennie. For this paper, choose three characters, discuss the dream they have and the obstacles that keep them from achieving their dream. This paper should be typed, double spaced, font size 12 in Times New Roman.
7 Introduction: Your introduction should include the author and title of the book. Remember the title is in italics. There are many ways to introduce this paper. For instance, you can write about how most people have dreams they wish to achieve. You can then focus on what Steinbeck relates in the novel as the American Dream. Then you could narrow down to how characters do not achieve these dreams. Your thesis sentence should include the three characters from the novel you will discuss. Body: The body of this paper should have six well written paragraphs. There should be two paragraphs for each character you will discuss. The first paragraph could describe the character and his/her dreams. The next paragraph should explain why the character does not achieve his/her dream. You a good quote from the book for each character. Be sure to cite the quote in MLA format. Mrs. Rogers will review this with you as well. **Be sure to summarize ONLY ENOUGH plot of the story to prove your thesis. **Avoid words like you, I, we, etc. **Do not tell what will be in your paper. IN THIS PAPER I WILL PROVE **Write the paper to a person who has not read the book. **This is a short paper. You do not need LONG quotes. Pick only what you need to prove your point. Conclusion: The conclusion of your paper should start with a restatement of thesis about how your three specific characters did not achieve their dreams. Then write a nice paragraph that wraps up your paper on the theme of the American Dream in this classic novel.
