1 CALL FOR PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS 2007 CHINA U.S CONFERENCE ON LITERACY JULY 24-27, 2007 The U.S. Steering Committee for the 2007 China-U.S. Conference on Literacy is requesting proposals for papers and interactive presentations. The program format will include paired Chinese and U.S. speakers on a range of topics as well as panel discussions, poster sessions, demonstrations and interactive exhibits. The U.S. Steering Committee will referee the U.S. papers and collaborate with the Chinese Steering Committee in determining which of the format options is best suited for a given topic. The Steering Committee members will select papers for presentations that represent best practices, promote interactive discussion, and give conference participants a clear understanding of how to apply research to practice. SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL All submissions must address the Conference Topics listed below. Submissions must include three documents: 1) a 250 word abstract, 2) a presentation summary including major points and participant outcomes, and 3) a one-page biographical sketch. 3 CALL FOR PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS CHINA U.S. CONFERENCE ON LITERACY DEADLINE DECEMBER 12, 2006 Abstract Format Persons wishing to present at the Conference must submit three items for review by the Committee: 1) A 250 word abstract, addressing a Conference topic, double-spaced in 12-point font, 2) A presentation summary (see page 2 of this document), and 3) A one-page biographical sketch (see page 3 of this document). The abstract must be titled and include the author s name, academic letters, and institution/agency (see below). ABSTRACT TITLE AUTHOR S NAME, ACADEMIC DEGREE INSTITUTION/AGENCY Abstracts will be accepted as an attachment or by mail on an IBM formatted disk in Microsoft Word. The steering committee requests your submission by December 12 for review. Presenter s abstracts will appear in the Conference Abstract publication and will be provided to each delegate at the Conference. All U.S. presenters will deliver their papers in English with consecutive Mandarin interpretation. Delivery options will include paired presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, demonstrations, and interactive exhibits. All Chinese presenters will deliver their papers in Mandarin with consecutive English interpretation. Most presentations will not exceed 15 minutes (30 minutes including interpretation) to allow maximum time for discussion and interaction. The U.S. Steering Committee will referee the U.S. papers and collaborate with the Chinese Steering Committee in determining which of the format options is best suited for a given topic.
