2 New Jersey has 8,899,339 residents, as of July 1, The 11 th most populous states in the na>on. With more than 1,200 persons per square mile, New Jersey is the na>on s most densely populated state. County popula>on ranged from 65,774 (Salem) to 918,888 (Bergen), as of July 1, Newark City s>ll the largest municipality in New Jersey, while resident popula>on was less than 100 in 4 least populated municipali>es. 2

5 " During the past decade ( ), New Jersey s 10 fastest growing municipali>es list was dominated by suburban townships e.g., Woolwich, East Greenwich, Mansfield, Upper Freehold, West Amwell, Lakewood, Hainesport, etc. " Between 2010 and 2012, the state s fastest growing municipali>es were mostly boroughs and towns e.g., Lebanon, Secaucus, Chester, Riverdale, Swedesboro, Wood- Ridge, Garwood, etc. 5

Only two states had higher propor>on than NJ California (27.2%) and New York (22.6%). 7

The sex ra6o (males per 100 females) rises gradually in New Jersey, from 94.3 in 2000 and 94.8 in 2010 to 95.2 in

14 % Number of children (under 18) declined in almost every county in New Jersey, except Hudson, between 2010 and The 7.7% and 7.1% decline in Sussex and Hunterdon coun>es, respec>vely, were the most severe. % Number of elderly popula>on (65 & over) increased in all coun>es in New Jersey between 2010 and Sussex (10.7%) and Hunterdon (9.6%) were the fastest growing coun>es. % In 2012, Percentages of elderly popula>on ranged from 28.1% in Ocean County and 27.8% in Cape May County to 13.3% in Hudson County. 14
