3 Pa PolyGard Gas Controller System DGC- 0 Preliminary remark These instructions explain the basics of dimensioning, laying and terminating of the cables as well as the procedure of commissioning of the Gas Controller system DGC- 0. These data were compiled by us with great care, but deviations are possible. Therefore we shall not be liable for possible mistakes in this description. At commissioning the technical requirements and regulations concerning wiring, electrical security, environmental conditions, fire protection etc. must be considered on site. Introduction For simple and fast installation of the field bus cable, the DGC- 0 system is solely ared to the Twisted Pair Cable JY(St)Y xx0,lg concerning communication, operating volta supply, connecting etc.. For this cable you have to consider the following when dimensioning and installing: Bus installation Physical load capacity. Installation of field bus cable The installation of the field bus cable to the bus transmitters - 0 has to be executed only in line topology. Branch lines are not allowed. For reliable communication the cable length shall not exceed 00 m per network segment. The cable length is also limited essentially by the physical load capacity. Section. gives examples for the cable lengths in dependence of the connected - 0, they must be adhered to in any case. Max. - 0 may be connected per bus segment. 4 Pa. Application of repeaters Networks of larr dimensions are divided into several network segments. Each supplementary network segment permits the installation of additional - 0 transmitters. The maximum cable lengths apply to one network segment each. epeaters are used for connecting the segments. epeaters amplify the data signals, but do not reproduce them, therefore maximum repeaters per system are allowable. epeaters can be installed both in the DGC-0 central unit and in the field. 5 Pa. Termination Each segment needs a ohmic terminating resistor of 0 Ohm at each of the both cable ends. These terminating resistors are already integrated in the DGC- 0 system. If the bus wiring is executed according to our guidelines including return of each bus cable to the DGC- 0 central control, no other actions will be necessary for terminating. For individual termination of the bus the terminating resistor can be activated or deactivated at the repeater EP- 0 and at the bus connector BC- 0. Alternatively a resistance of 0 Ohm can be connected at the bus end between the bus lines and. Please check that only one resistance is active at each bus end! 6 Pa. Physical load capacity of the bus cable The -0 transmitters work with a nominal operating volta of VDC. This tension is impressed via the shared -wire Twisted Pair Cable (JY(St)Y xx0,lg) with a cross-section of 0, mm. Therefore you have to calculate which cable length is allowable in dependence of the total power of the connected - 0 / AT transmitters, in order to obtain the required minimum terminal volta of VDC at all of the - 0 / AT transmitters. Note: The operating volta supply of the EP- 0 modules mounted in the field always shall be executed via a separate line, because due to the higher power requirement of the modules the allowable volta drop in the bus cable only permits relatively sho cable lengths.. Calculation of the cable length As described above, the field bus cable is only laid in line topology. There are three possibilities for a volta drop in the bus cable: a. No return line of the cable b. eturn line of the cable c. Parallel laying of the cable with a higher cross-section. For calculating the permissible cable length an Excel program is available. For fast projection some examples related to practice are calculated for the three possibilities concerning maximum lengths of feed line cables and intermediate cables. 9 Pa Mounting / Electrical Connection The Gas Controller is fixed to the wall through the marked mounting holes at the back side of the housing. These mounting holes are accessible after opening the housing. (Plastic enclosure) The mounting holes are covered with the enclosed caps after the end of the assembly. (Plastic enclosure) We recommend to consider the following when choosing the mounting position. Location of the Gas Controller must conform to the layout of the area being monitored. Avoid locations where water, oil etc. may influence proper operation and where mechanical dama might be possible. Cables are introduced from top and/r bottom side. Keep at least 0 mm distance on the left side to open the door. Obey customer s instructions.. Electrical Connection The technical requirements and regulations for wiring, electrical security, as well as project specific and environmental conditions etc. must be observed when mounting. We recommend the following cable typs: Power supply NYM-J x, mm Alarm NYM-J X x, mm Bus JY(St)Y xx0,lg The recommendation does not consider local conditions such as fire protection etc.. The alarms are also connected directly to the module by terminals. The terminals of the alarm relays have contacts each for transmitting the signals. The alarms are available as SP, potenialfree contacts. For the exact position of the terminal s of the alarm relays see the following connection diagram. 15 Pa Commissioning For fast and comfoable commissioning we recommend to proceed as follo. Especially the given specifications of the field bus cable have to be checked carefully, because it is here where most of the causes for problems of the field bus communication appear.. 16 Pa. Check sho-circuit / interruption / cable length of the bus leads This procedure has to be executed for each single segment. Disconnect the bus leads from pin and pin of the DGC- 0 central control. Connect ohmmeter to the loose leads and measure the total loop resistance. See fig. Loop resistance. The total loop resistance is calculated as follo: (total) = (cable) + 0 Ohm (terminating resistance) (cable) = Ohm / km (loop resistance) (JY(St)Y xx0,lg) (total) = < 0 Ohm Sho-circuit Look for sho-circuit in the field (total) = infinite Cable interruption Look for cable interruption in the field (total) = > 0 Ohm < 0 Ohm Cable is OK The cable length can be calculated in a sufficiently exact way according to the following formula. Total cable length (km) = ( (total) 0 Ohm) / Ohm If the field bus cable is OK, reconnect it to the central control. 0 DGC-0 central control Fig. Loop resistance X -0 OHM X X -0-0 X -0 X -0 GAINBDGC0_E_0 Phone.: 00(0)/00-0 Fax: 00(0)/00- Specification subject to chan without notice. 18 Pa. Addressing - 0 transmitters After having checked the field bus successfully, you have to assign a measuring point (MP) address to each - 0 transmitter. The addressing is effected by the service tool DGC-0-STL in the menu Addressing directly at each - 0. The service tool communicates not only with the - 0, but always via the GC- 0 to the - 0, too. Therefore addressing is only possible when the GC- 0 is ready for use and the field bus is functioning. The status LED of the - 0 is weakly illuminated when the operating volta is active (volta indicator) An automatic link connection STL <> GC-0 <> -0 is established by connecting the DCG-0- STL to the service tool jack of the - 0. If this connection is OK, than you can read the actual - 0 address in the menu Address. 0 = Address of new - 0 XX = Actual - 0 Address = Communication error! See. Addressing according to the following description: MS Electronic Credits: 00 Staing menu Addressing Address -0 Address 0 0 = - 0 has no address yet (delivery status - 0), communication to the GC- 0 is OK, addressing possible. XX = - 0 has already an address. Address can be chand. = - 0 has no communication to the GC- 0 Controller (Central control) addressing not possible, eliminate communication error. Address 0 Cursor is faded in, by using enter desired address. Address Takes over entered address in the service tool. The previous address is displayed again for one measuring cycle, afterwards the assigned address is taken over by the - 0. Addressing - 0 finished. Unplug service tool. 19 Pa The measuring point (MP) is activated automatically at the GC- 0 by addressing the 0. After successful addressing and registration the GC- 0 queries periodically the measuring point of the - 0. The - 0 responds to every query of the GC- 0. This reply messa is indicated by a blinking pulse of the status LED at the - 0. The cycle time is about to sec. depending on the number of the connected bus subscribers. Note: Due to the great flexibility of the DGC-0 system concerning addressing and configuration there is also the possibility to assign a - 0 address several times. The DGC- 0 system, however, is not able to define the repeatedly assigned addresses clearly. Therefore it is necessary after commissioning to check in the menu Measuring points of the GC- 0, if all assigned addresses are activated.. Communication error Communication errors at commissioning are nearly always due to mistakes in laying the cables, in connecting to the terminals and in terminating. Therefore the following checks have to be executed: Bus line reconnected after measurement of the loop resistance? GC- 0 controller in operating mode. Check the operating volta at the -0 (X, Pin + and Pin -; U min = VDC) Check communication at another - 0. If communication OK here, exchan previous - 0. Check bus leads for sho-circuit or interruption. See. Check polarity of the system bus ( ). See. Check termination. Terminating resistance of 0 Ohm at the beginning and at the end of the segment. Check cable topology and cable length. Only line topology <> No branch lines!! Cable length depending on the load. See. 20 Pa 0. Commissioning of expansion modules EP- 0 Up to five expansion modules (EP- 0) with five alarm relays each can be connected via the S- bus. Each connected EP- 0 expansion module is registered in the menu System parameters. To recognize the position of the EP- 0 modules a module address is assigned to each module via the address itch. The table sho the assignment of the relay numbers to the module addresses. Module- Addr. No. Analog Outout No. 0 to 0 0 to 0 to 0 to 0 to 0 0 to 0 to 0 to 0 to 0 to With the DGC- 0 systems by MS-E, the complete configuration of the EP- 0 modules is already factory-set. Configuration only is necessary with single modules or in case of retrofitting or exchan of a module. The address itch is located behind the connecting plug X. Unplug X for addressing.. Fitting of system parameters At commissioning the alarm relays must be assigned to the alarms (thresholds) for each measuring point. For all other parameters the values are deposited as defaults, which can be chand at any time if necessary. See also Description of PolyGard Gas Controller DGC- 0. 21 Pa Calibration New transmitters are always delivered factory-calibrated by MS-E. This is stated by the calibration label indicating date and calibration gas. In this case calibration is not necessary during commissioning. For the calibration of the - 0 (MP X.) an automatic routine is deposited in the menu Calibration of the service tool DGC-0-STL. The measured value of the analog transmitter (MP X.) is displayed in the same menu for the calibration with the zero- and gain- potentiometer. While the calibration menu is open, the MP doesn t transmit any measured values to the GC- 0 controller. Therefore applying the calibration gas to the sensor - 0 or AT- XX doesn t release an alarm. As facilities you only need a zero gas and a calibration gas, the calibration adapter and an extraction set. Prior to calibration the sensor must be connected continuously to the power supply for a running-in period. The running-in period of the different sensors can be taken from the following table: Sensor/Gas type t in 0 CO h 0 Ex h 0 NO h 0 NO h 0 NH h 0 O h equired instruments to calibrate the transmitter: Test gas bottle with synthetic air. 22 Pa Project protection To avoid unwanted access to the sensitive calibration data by a third pay, every customer ts a project key. All projects of the customer are delivered with this key. This key is also deposited in each STL bought by that customer. After opening the menu Calibration, the STL asks first of all for the project key of the central control. Only if the key is approved in the STL, calibration will be possible. If the keys do not correspond to each other, the following messa will appear: NO ACCESS AUTHOISATION Prior to calibration please read also the section Credit system.
