2 What is the ERASMUS Mundus programme? EU programme started in 2004 for financial support for institutions and scholarships for individuals Funding available for: European joint Masters and Doctorates (including scholarships) Partnerships with non-european higher education institutions and scholarships for students and academics Projects to promote European higher education worldwide 2

3 EMMIR is the first African-European Erasmus Mundus Master in Migration Studies EMMIR is unique study programme focusing on migration through an intercultural approach multidisciplinary programme theoretical skills in migration studies field work in Europe and Africa important contemporary issues 3

4 Partners: four European Universities and three African Universities Associates: organizations on regional, national and international level which provide significant assistance for student internships 4

6 Organisation: 2 years (120 ECTS) English as teaching language One course of the language spoken in the respective countries Around 25 students First semester in Oldenburg (Joint Intensive Phase) - from September to January. Transdisciplinary methods/methodology and theory Second semester in Stavanger from January to June. Key areas and concepts Third semester: students are hosted by a partner University of their choice to study thematic research themes as in project-based internships Fourth semester: thesis writing from January to June 6

7 Completion: Joint Master Degree jointly issued by all 7 partner institutions Transcript of Records and a Diploma Supplement describing personal curriculum contents delivered to each graduate Graduation ceremony in Oldenburg 7

15 implementation EMMIR January 2010: Beginning of proposal writing process (Oldenburg/Stavanger) March 2010: Oldenburg takes over coordination from Stavanger April 2010: Submission of the application to the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA)

16 implementation EMMIR July 2010: Notification of selection August 2010: Starting negotiations, developing procedures and initiating PR September 2010: EMMIR is on line!

17 implementation EMMIR October 2010: Signature of the Framework Partnership Agreement (Oldenburg EACEA) December 2010: EACEA announces the number of scholarships (18) 31 December 2010: 1909 on line applications received
