8 Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) BYOD allows students to bring their own computing device to all of their classes. Students can bring a device of their choice (laptop, tablet etc) and connect to the school network, access programs and the Internet, print and save their work to the school s server from home or at school 24/7. The advantage of a BYOD strategy is that it provides students with the flexibility of having their own device, one with which they are comfortable and familiar and also suits their home requirements. What to Purchase The device needs to: have a keyboard be reasonably light have a sensible size screen a battery that lasts eight hours be modern enough to have a wireless card with a minimum specification (a/b/g/n & 5 GHz) To assist your decision we offer families the following options: Option 1: Student brings their own device which they need to ensure is compatible with the school s BYOD network. The following list will indicate if your device will work on the network. IPad/IPhone ios: 6 and up. Jailbroken devices are not supported Android: 3.2 and up from official sources. Custom ROM builds are not supported Windows: 7 and up Blackberry: Not supported Chromebook / ChromeOS: Not supported All other mobiles Operating Systems not listed are not supported. Option 2: Student purchases a device through the laptop portal (link on website) Option 3: The ICT Social Justice Committee will provide a solution for families that do not have the financial capacity to provide a device.
