1 Creative Photography Class Guidelines and Procedures Dear Parents and Students, Welcome Back! Syllabus & Agreement Form M/J Creative Photography 1 Mrs. Cruz The objective of Creative Photography is to enable students to develop technical skills and creative approaches in the production and understanding of photographic imagery. Students will acquire knowledge of photography as an art form. The goal of this course is to motivate the student and instill a love for the arts. Each student is expected to take proper care of materials and follow the classroom rules to ensure a rewarding experience for everyone. I am asking that ALL students register under the schools website. This will inform parents and students of weekly assignments that will be due throughout the school year. M/J Creative Photography 1 COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students explore the aesthetic foundations of art using beginning photography techniques. This course may include, but is not limited to, color and/or black and white photography via digital media and/or traditional photography. Processes and techniques for image capture and printing may include, but are not limited to, handcrafted pinhole cameras, hand tinting photographs, mixed media, photo collage, cross-processing, emerging technologies and new media. Content covers the basic mechanics of a camera, including lens and shutter operation, compositional foundations, printing an image for display, and evaluating a successful print. Craftsmanship and quality are reflected in the surface of the print, care of the materials, attention to compositional conventions, and expression of personal ideas and feelings. Student photographers use an art criticism process to evaluate, explain, and measure artistic growth in personal or group works. This course incorporates handson activities and consumption of art materials.

Parents/Students may view their grades by the parent or student portal. If a student is unsure of a grade please wait till the last 10 minutes of class to discuss it one on one. Grades will be calculated as follows: Projects 30% Tests 25% Quizzes 15% CW/HW 15% Participation 15% Grading Scale: A= 90% to 100% B = 80% to 89% C = 70% to 79% D = 60% to 69% F = 59% or below Participation in class: Students will need to bring in their cameras throughout the year. Students will not receive credit if they use their camera phones. Students who do not bring in cameras on the days that they are needed will receive a Z for participation for that day. It is imperative in this course to have access to a camera at all times throughout the year. Failure to not have a camera will result in a low academic grade for the course. MAKE-UPS: An excused absence from class may cause the student to fall behind. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to make up projects, tests and/or assignments. Projects, tests and assignments must be made up the week that the student returns to school. If the absence is unexcused due to tardiness or absences the student will not be allowed to makeup assignments and they will receive zero/zeros for the unexcused day. ALL assignments and exams are posted ahead of time on the school website. BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS AND CONSEQUENCES 1. Students must be on time and prepared for class. 2. Students must bring their materials to class every day. 3. Students are to complete the photo of the day within the first 15 minutes of class. 4. Students shall remain quiet and seated during in-class critiques and during teacher instruction.

4 5. Students are expected to respect each other, their teacher, their environment and the different points of view in the classroom. 6. Students found bullying will be immediately pulled from the classroom and referred to the administration. 7. Take care of school equipment and classmate s equipment. 8. No food or drinks are allowed in classroom at any time. 9. Students should only be on assigned websites pertaining to assignment or working on Photoshop. (Any student off task will receive a ZERO for the day) Cheating/plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any student who is caught using an image from the internet will result in a Zero and will not receive credit for that assignment. Students are always expected to be on task and be working on their assignments at all times. Students who are not task and on other websites will have a picture of the site they were on placed in their folder and blocked from the computer. This will result in an F for that assignment. Cell-Phones: Cell phone usage is not permitted during class time, unless approved by your teacher. Students caught using their phones will have their devices collected and turned into the office. The office will hold the phone for 24 hours before allowing a parent or guardian to collect it. Consequences: 1. Parental Contact 2. Detention 3. Parent-Teacher Conference 4.
