4 Question 1 Why an ADN Program? 74.8% choose an ADN program due to cost. This is compared to 71% in the first survey. 69.9% chose location as the second most common reason compared to 65% in the previous survey Convenience was selected by 54.5% compared to 52.5% previously Family obligations was the lease common reason at 27.5% compared to 29.5% previously Reputation of the program was selected 51% of the time

5 Question 2 Do you plan to obtain a BSN? 86.7% of respondents plan to obtain a BSN compared to 76.8% previously. This is a 10% increase from the previous survey Of the 13% who do not plan to obtain a BSN: 50% relayed cost as the main reason (Range 24-89%) 36% already have another degree (range 0-87%) 34% cited family obligations

7 Question 6 How soon after ADN will you pursue BSN? 77.6% indicated that the would pursue the BSN in 1-5 years compared to 86% in the previous survey.

8 Question 7 Do you plan to obtain an MSN? 52.3% (range 11-78%) answered yes to this question compared to 60% on the previous survey. 47.7% answered NO to this question with the following reasons: 49% ( range 11-80%) cited cost compared to 47% on the previous survey 45% (34059%) cited no desire compared to 42% on the previous survey 33% cited family obligations as a hindrance which was the same on the previous survey.

13 Comments I personally believe to advance in my nursing career, I will need a BSN or possible an MSN. I've been in college, taking pre-req's for almost six years. The way I see it, why stop now? I do not wish to be pressured to return to school shortly after I receive my ADN, I would like to take time to save money to pursue a higher education and raise my family. I think an associate degree is something that we choose to have. Unless we are planning on going into management or plan to get our nurse practionar, we don't get paid more for BSN so what have it? It's a waste of time and money if your not going to use it else where.

14 Comments The cost of any bachelor degree program is huge financial burden on the student, students family, and the state. If you wish to mandate education requirements you must also mandate said education costs to allow all persons the opportunity to complete the education while not accruing large sums of debt. I think that the ADN program is a great start to a long nursing career. i intended to continue my education so I can excel in my field.
